I think I missed a day there

But what with all the kick ass stuff David posted yesterday, I doubt you missed me.

I had, quite literally, nothing on which to post about, then I got home and saw what David did and decided not to wreck it, grabbed one of my expanding collection of Potter books and had a quiet morning.

But I did come up with a question overnight that I’d like to ask you all:

Tuna Fish Sandwiches

I like mine with just mayo and pickles, but I understand that some folks must have theirs with mustard and/or pepper.

So my first question is how do you prefer yours?

My second question is, does the adding of the mayo negate the healthy aspects of the tuna itself?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

So long as the pickles are diced sweet pickles, I’m a happy guy. As for the health aspects, when my brother went to medical school and learned some of the relevant info, he immediately gave up mayo altogether. So I figure ignorance is bliss on that point.

    Miracle Whip.

A dab of mustard is good, but not necessary.

Diced sweet pickles (my wife uses sweet pickle relish). (optional)

    Little diced onion. (optional)

    There you go…

If you can’t indulge in a little mayo/Miracle Whip once in a while, you might as well be dead.

I personally like to add a little BBQ sauce to my Tuna Fish. I’ll have to try adding a little bit of green onion, sounds good!

Mayo = yes. Not a huge fan of Miracle Whip. Healthy? Who cares? 🙂

Miracle whip + tuna for my wife.

Miracle whip, diced onion, chopped hard boiled egg, and kosher sandwich dills on the side, for me.

The other variations I know do include diced candied, or sweet pickles, my mother liked that one.

I only use mustard for egg salad, or potato salad.

I agree with FREDDY, if you only do it occasionally, there’s little harm in mayo/miracle whip. I do know some people who consider it a food group, but that’s overkill.

and I don’t let them make the sandwichs.

Mayo = No, I taught you better than that! First, the tuna must be the packed in water kind – not oil, then Miracle whip, diced onion, salt/pepper and chopped up homemade bread and butter pickles.
With one large cucumber, four ingredients and ten minutes, you can make four pints of these wonderful old time treats that will take you back to grandma’s kitchen.
You make a killer cheesecake, so I know these would be a cinch for you.

Dammit, AK, I was always embarrased to see my friends getting their butts whooped by their Moms…

As for something Daddy and I used to do from time to time…

1 can of tuna in water
A couple (or several) spoonfuls of Miracle Whip
A spoon or two of pickle relish
(Mix the above to desired consistency/proportions – experimentation is good!)
    Saltine crackers

Also known as “Tuna Snacky Sh!t”

Good for munchies during breaks while working on various things.

I don’t think mustard would be good with that, but pepper sounds promising… I may have to try that sometime.

Unfortunately, Daddy was the only one I know who liked that besides me, so I haven’t made any in quite a while. Kept in the fridge, it was great cold snacks for the Texas summers.

Tunafish, with diced pickles and ranch dressing is pretty good.
However the slightest bit of hard-boiled egg in the tuna ruins it for me.

  8. Gerry N. says:

Tuna drained and flaked, finely diced celery, finely diced onion, Miracle Whip, Kosher dill pickle sliced lengthwise, a little salt and pepper, mix well, make sammiges on white bread. Best accompanied by chicken noodle soup.

Well, lately they have found unhealthy levels of mercury in tuna so maybe the mayo is no worse!
