Well, if AK can post about tuna fish sandwiches, I figure I can toss my family’s secret recipe out into the blogosphere. This is excellent rocket fuel for a busy Saturday working in the yard.
Bacon, Bananas and Toast:
3 slices bread
1 banana, ripe yellow
5Â slices bacon
Toast bread and cook bacon to desired doneness; butter toast to taste.
Slice banana evenly atop toast. Break bacon slices into halves; place three halves on each piece of toast atop the bananas. (Eat the remaining half slice as an appetizer.) Food of the Gods! Yum! Enjoy.
Anybody else ever heard of this delectable concoction? So far as I know, this was invented by my Dad. And we’ve never run into anyone else who’s ever heard of it, much less enjoyed it on a regular basis as we did.
Of course, if you don’t like bacon, a more prosaic but still yummy version is Bananas and Toast. Just take the above and delete the bacon.
Don’t give me that Elvis-is-insane-for-eating-peanut-butter-and-banana-sandwiches look. These are really tasty!
Hmmm, I like bacon and good toast, but I’m very particular about my bananas and how they’re served to me.
Maybe we’ll give this one a shot over the weekend.

I bet grilling the banana a bit would be good, and then maybe a light sprinkle of brown sugar…
DUDE!!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot….. Over….
That sounds worse than my moms PB & Pickle sandwich….
Yeekksss…
Of course, it’s not like **I** haven’t made some weird stuff in the desperation of the lazy….. I seem to recall a cheddar cheese, sauerkraut and BBQ sauce sandwich….. but that was about 17 yrs ago….
All righty then, you all forced me to mention the grossest sandwich I know, my baby brother still makes it. Keep in mind my mother was an Adventist so the vegetarian stuff she ate back in the fifties and sixties was all ad hoc and desperation.
White bread
peanut butter
dill pickles
miracle whip
optional- lettuce
I still carry mental scars from that.
I should have pointed out that for BB&T you slice the bananas so that they make little circular slices. I arrange about nine on each piece of toast in a grid pattern. Slicing them lengthwise would be just…wrong.
As for the grossest sandwich, wouldn’t that be a Vegemite sandwich? I’ve never had one myself, but heard plenty about it.
Toasted Bacon & Banana “samies” are quite common in South Africa and can be ordered from most corner Take Away establishments.
Toasted Avocado and Cheese is where I draw the line!!
OK David…
We had Welsh Rarebit tonight, so I had to try the BB&T.
I liked it, and I’m not Mikey…
I did slice the banana lengthwise, though. I didn’t notice any rifts opening in the fabric of space/time, so I guess it’s not all that wrong…
Freddy, since until now the only people on Earth who have eaten BB&T are members of my family, you are now officially a Member of My Family. Welcome!
(I’m not counting those South Africans, Knopkop. BB&T is eaten open-face. A BB&T sandwich is obviously something else entirely.)
