Uh-oh

It appears the Swiss, long famed in gun-rights circles for still requiring every able-bodied Swiss male to keep a (drool) Sig 550-series fully-automatic assault rifle in his home as part of the citizen militia, may be rethinking that practice following a widely-publicized domestic killing.

It would be a shame if they did. It’s always been so handy to cite the Swiss in the middle of a debate with an anti-gunner. Switzerland is such a peaceful, idyllic yet utterly modern and civilized society, but it’s awash with — horrors — eeevil black machine guns in every household. Here’s hoping that doesn’t actually change anytime soon.

    Well,
I would like to have one in my house,
I would even take two or threeeee.
But the from time to time you need to
feed them and they can eat some.
An mp5 in every house, makes you warm all
    over.

    Machine gun in house

When I was in Switzerland about seven years ago, I had several conversations about this subject. One was with an arms museum curator (Musee de Chateau du Morge– if you’re ever in Geneva, go to Morge to check it out), one was with a gun shop owner in Geneva.

    1) Arming and training everyone in the country is expensive, i.e. more expensive than having a standing army.

    2) Liberal pussies hate guns and being in the military.

    3) Liberal pussies want to do away with guns and their form of government in general.

Hence, liberal pussies want to use #1 as an argument to implement #3 without admitting #2.

I strenuously suggested to these gentlemen not to give up the fight to maintain their current system, as it was probably the only thing that kept them independent and a republic for so very very long. Once they start down that road, it would be all over. Chins were scratched ponderously.
