Even a Broken Clock

Is right twice a day. But Markos Zuniga is only right once in a blue moon.

One of the proponents of regulating political speech on blogs is a woman byt he name of Carol Darr. Darr is the big boss of IPDI (Institute for Politics, Democracy and the Internet) at George Washington University.

Back in June of last year, when the feds were thinking of slapping some sort of anti-First Amendment McCain-Feingold regulation onto bloggers, one of the lines Darr came up with was

The ramifications of the bloggers’ demand are enormous. The issue before the FEC goes to the heart of the fundamental questions that define a democracy’s relationship to a free press: Who should be treated as a journalist, and what special privileges, if any, should they receive?

Zuniga caught that last line and took a wild guess that Darr was either a journalism professor or married to one.

It was a slow and low underhand toss right over the center of the plate, which is probably why he managed to knock it out of the park. From an article on Memphis Online

Her husband, George Washington University journalism professor Albert L. May, once worked for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock.

Now don’t go thinking I’ve lost all my sense and am praising the leader of the Klueless Kos Kids for the hell of it. You see, I actually read the rest of the Memphis Online article, something I’m sure the rest of the KKKids didn’t, and guess what ‘ol Kos decided was a good thing to leave out of Darr’s bio

Carol C. Darr, a University of Memphis-trained lawyer, former Democratic National Committee general counsel and expert on campaign finance laws, is under attack in the blogosphere.

It was right there in the opening line, Kos, WTF?

I guess the idea that the Democrats were and still are at the forefront of the attempt to shut down political free speech on this here interweb is unappealing to them. Add to that the long list of leftist academics who seek to create “Free Speech Zones” out of the inernet like they do their campuses, and you have to wonder how they can take themselves seriously on this issue.

One Response to Even a Broken Clock

  1. Rivrdog says:

They tried and failed to regulate conservative talk radio off the airwaves, too.

IN the coming years, when conservatives will be in the minority again, it will be important to have avenues of voice.

This is a very important fight.
