I like this plan (WWII version at right):
We dump a couple of billion dollars into our own firearms manufacturers (Colt/S&W/Ruger, Beretta USA, etc) and we have them mass produce the equivalent of a standard issue 9mm as well as a small concealed 9mm version. We then dump another billion or so in 9mm ammunition and spare clips. And here is the kicker, we stamp every single piece of hardware; Bullets, gun frames, barrels, clips: “MADE IN THE USA” and then proceed to smuggle/dump them into Iran. We start arming the Non-Persian Minorities and the more radical urbanites. We make them faster than they can confiscate them. We float Iran in a sea of 9mm small arms. … The result will be the breaking of the monopoly of force of the Thugocracy. Armed marchers are a lot harder to break up than non-armed. Within a year, 18 months tops, you would have an armed under 30 populace that would, quite simply, out gun the opposition by sheer weight of numbers and small arms.

You’d end up arming the Jihadists. A lot of the “opponents” of the current Iranian regime are just as radical as that regime, they’re just pissed off at the election fraud perpetrated by the sitting president and want their man in the seat of power (which is of course no power at all, he’s just a mouthpiece of the mullahs).
That Liberator brings me thoughts of how hard it’d be to design something with a finite lifespan that was also a semi-auto, ala, Hi-Point or something such similar. No locked breech, just a slide with a damned heavy recoil spring, maybe.
Couldn’t be too hard, and costs wouldn’t run too much higher methinks.
I’m pretty concerned about other items, some of which Mr. Wenting touches on, though I’m not sure his views of the situation are quite as one-sided as he’s suggesting. Mine are more broadly about the destabilization of the region in general, though seeing the theocrats get their teeth kicked in would be fun.
Jihadists use bombs. Every time they take a firearm after a US soldier or a Marine, they get shot to pieces.
Dropping cheap pistols on Iranian citizens would only do good.
Make them one shot penguns, with plastic barrels and parts. Only detectable metal part should be a tungsten penetrator in the bullet.
