Where the Union Money Goes

My fellow UCD Law School alum Allison Hayward at the Skeptic’s Eye has been sifting through labor union disclosure forms, and guess what she’s found:

Payments to entities with “Democrat in the name: 38 (totalling slightly over $660,000). Payments to “Republican: 2 (both from carpenter’s unions) totalling $17,000.

Well, that’s one stereotype reinforced. Here’s another:

Payments to entities with the keyword “casino: 20, including a payment by the NEA’s National Headquarters to the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa in Atlantic City of $141,043.

I’m sure that all 20 are legitimate payments for services received — probably the union leadership’s annual meetings at those fine business establishments. Yeah, right.

Given the recent discussions here and here, I wonder if public employee unions are included in this database? I know their political contribution patterns are heavily reported, but it’d be interesting to see who else they gave money to….
