The Soundboard: Down Under Edition

I saw it in the used CD section of a local bookstore and had to buy it. That is my only excuse.

I remember it from my fifth grade year as being one of the top ten albums you had to have (maybe someday I’ll go through the rest) and when I saw it I knew it was a ‘must buy item’ at $5.99.

They have been described as “The Police before they read Koeslter but you know, I really don’t like bands that I have to do literary research on European post-moderin authors to figure out what they hell they’re singing about, so these guys are just fine with me.

So to start off the new year, I’ll start out with a band from my childhood and their last Top 40 hit.

Men at Work – High Wire

They’ve reissued the first two albums with some bonus material including live tracks on each that really are worth the purchase price. In fact, to be honest, after listening to the used disc I bought, I went and bought the pair of reissues Album 1 and Album 2).

The wife just stares at me when I do strange things like that sometimes.

Nothing strange about it! Their Business As Usual album had lots of depth — plenty of great music that didn’t make it to the Top 40. I still listen from time to time to the bootleg tape I made from a friend’s LP, and I listen to it all the way through ’cause once I’m in, I’m hooked.

Great catch! Now I’ll have to go buy those CDs.
