Pre-Birthday Rangeday

On Saturday afternoon, after the Seahawks won their spot at next week’s NFC Championship game, I met up with my co-worker, Paul, and his son at the Champion indoor range that I wrote of last week. He was testing out his new Springfield Armory 1911 that he recently picked up when I arrived.

Unfortunately, it needs some ramp and throat work done as it didn’t even like feeding the Winchester ball ammo he had for it. We tested different ammo and different mags, but the lower portion of the chamber is a little too long to get the front edge of the projectile to go in at least once every seven rounds.

On the other hand, my carry piece 1911 worked flawlessly as did my Ruger 22/45, which Paul’s son spent some time shooting under Paul’s guidance. My CZ 83 took another step towards me declaring that everyone on the planet must have one. What else can I say about a gun that puts the best design points of the Walther PPK and the 1911 into one firearm?

My newest 1911, the Colt Commander, decided that it was just going to be fussy since I haven’t yet taken it to the gunsmith for some work and failed to eject 4 times out of 100 rounds (it extracted just fine). I’ll have the smith put a new ejector in there and tune it while he’s dropping the trigger pull pressure.

Speaking of the trigger, it ate my trigger finger up again, ripping off the callus I made by shooting it last week. I founf that while I was able to dull down the grooves on the face of the trigger, I neglected to get into the trigger overtravel adjustment screww and they had some teeth on them.

Eh, more blood on the gun just makes it more ‘Mine’, right?

So here is the picture, taken in the super-wide booths at Champion, of the Gang of Four that went with me.
