New Toys on Friday

Seeing as how I haven’t been doing much gunblogging lately and I’m making everyone wait until Monday to se my newest acquisition, I decided that I could at least show you my newest gun accessory acquisition.

The bastards won’t let me steal their photo, so you’ll have to pop this link to see the Nikon BuckMaster 6-18×40 that I bought to place atop my Ruger MK I in 22-250 in preparation for Boomershoot.

I have a decent 3-9×40 on there now, but even when I crank the thing up to 9x, I can’t see those little pool cue chalk cubes I’m so fond of shooting nowadays out at the 200yd line. With the Burris on Barak, I can see them at 12x, so I figured I’d get just a little more optical oomph just in case.

I really wanted to go with another Burris Black Diamond like the one I have on Barak, but I would have had to buy a 6-24x to get the fine crosshairs and I didn’t want to go quote that strong. That and I didn’t have the $600 to spend this time around.

I actually didn’t buy it from the above link (they just have the better photo), I bought it at MidwayUSA. The prices were the same, but I’ve bought from Midway many times before and they gave me a $30 e-coupon for New Years.

It arrived after I left for work Friday afternoon so I just now got home and got to looking at it.

It has a nice heft to it, hopefully meaning that it is a strong scope. It’s still dark out, but the 100yds or so I can see up the street from my driveway seems really clear, although not quite as good at light gathering as either my Burris or the binocs I bought a few months back. It did come with a very nice pair of optional target knobs that I’ll definitely be utilizing though.

I’ll be mounting it up probably later today and sighting the rifle in this weekend, and we’ll see how it goes from there.
