This must be it

Section 1233 of HR 3200 (aka: Obamacare) has a clause that requires the elderly to meet at least once every five years with a doctor to discuss “Death With Dignity” (aka: are you worth what it is costing us to keep you alive?).

This must be the Democrat’s plan to save social security!

If they can convince the Baby Boomers that they should let themselves die sooner, then there’ll be fewer drawers on the SSI rolls, meaning they can stretch the funds further.

While I have no problem with folks letting themselves go when they feel their time has come, I don’t particularly like the government talking people into it.

As I noted on my own blog, I don’t read Section 1233 as requiring discussions of assisted suicide, but rather discussion of hospice care, assisted living arrangements, as well as things people should not be discussing with medical professionals, like wills, financial planning, designation of a “decision maker”, and so forth. Not saying this won’t be discussed–where it’s legal–but Section 1233 does specify following the rules of the state, so…

The whole bill, of course, amounts to rationing of care, as we’ve said all along. (Query: if this were already law, would Sen Edward Kennedy still be alive…?) And even when it includes things that might be good ideas–like counselling folks who are “getting up there” about assisted living, hospice care, and so forth–it is overreaching for the Federal Government to mandate it. (Aside from what it will cost in money, and freedoms lost.)
