Strange

I don’t see this surprisingly reasonable (considering the source) statement as some sort of CYA essay, so why does Commenter #1 say to Vanderboegh:

Mike,

Thanks for the “sermon”. In these days of ratcheting tension, it’s nice to have a leading figure pointing out the subtalties (sp?) & nuances, not to mention the downright obvious, in an attempt to calm things down.

Whatever happens from now on, the “sin” is not on your head.

  1. Hard to figure, huh? There is absolutely nothing inconsistent in that essay with anything I’ve said or done over the past 15 years. Retired SSG Woodman notwithstanding, I have never worried about “CYA.” Principled people don’t have to.

Suggest you obtain a copy of To Shake Their Guns in the Tyrant’s Face by Professor Robert Churchill. (University of Michigan Press, 2009) You may understand more if you widen your knowledge base.

Well, I DO have something to gripe about with Mike V’s essay, sir.

I’ve been an SWL (Short wave listener) since the ’50s.

I DO listen to short-wave radio as the easiest way to understand what the Brits, Germans and Dutch, among some nations represented on those bands, are doing and thinking of doing.

Short-wave bands also carry music, and when I’m in a “radio hole” somewhere on the Lower Columbia River, a short wave station might be my only source of music I’ve not already listened to 15 times.

What’s more, I’ll wager that Mike V. has a short-wave receiver somewhere in his kit. Maybe not three of them, as I do, but at least one…

  3. SW listening is a great hobby and a great resource. However, I’m talking about folks who listen to the regular disinformation stuff like Mark Koernke, etc.

You have to eat a whole turd just to find a peanut of truth. And the problem is, there are folks who are making excrement sandwiches and eating them every day.

You have to peer up a LOT of goat asses to find that one “diamond in a goat’s ass”.

That, sir, is a Strategic Air Command expression invented (or adopted) by radar target-study staff officers to remark on an exceptionally tight radar aiming point NOT confused by ground clutter. A group of grain silos on an isolated farm might qualify.
