XP-100

Well, I can’t put anything past you guys. The mystery item from yesterday was immediately spotted by Ted Riedel as an upside-down XP-100 pistol stock.

7491337a7c702ea986a7832fd99bad2c.jpgI picked this one up as soon as I spotted it at Collectors as I am a southpaw and left-handed versions of these things are hard to find. Purty, huh?
Of course, that must mean I have a Remington XP-100 now…

Yup! I vowed after the Zumbo episode that I’d honor the immediate and vociferous pro-2A stance of Remington’s then-CEO Tommy Milner by purchasing my first Remington firearm in 2007. Unfortunately, after I’d pretty much settled on the XP-100, I discovered that they’ve been out of production for several years now. Remington uses the same action to make the wonderfully accurate XR-100 rifle, but I’d be paying (cough) a lot (cough) for a competition stock that I’d immediately toss out for a pistol stock. And I’d have to cut down the barrel but keep it long enough that the whole thing remained more than 26″ in overall length toBlack XP 1.jpg comply with Federal law that says, in essence, “once a rifle, always a rifle.” Still, I thought hard about it, but…

Hell, why not just buy a used XP-100?

Well, I did, off of Gunbroker, in .223 and with the old black “Coyote” stock as you can see at right. It also came with a nice Leupold 4x EER scope and a really odd barrel-mounted bipod. The seller tried to pitch it as a “feature” that it would change the point of impact depending on how far out you clamped it on the barrel. Uh huh.
It was also utterly filthy. I’ll have more pics of both the bipod and the newly cleaned XP up shortly.

And no, I haven’t mounted the wood stock yet, because the #$%&!@ doesn’t fit.

Which means, I say to the wife, I say, I just have to buy a set of rasps and files… There’s just no way around it. It’s not like I could take it to a professional, honey, I mean, where would I find somebody who makes their living fitting gunstocks to guns in this day and age? It’s just unheard of. Pass me that Rockler woodworking catalog, would you dear?
