The Soundboard: Pound of Sound

Week Seven

We’re gonna shift genres this week because, as it always happens, I’m having my ass kicked by an album I haven’t listened to in a decent while.

released in 1991 and hitting the charts with a ballad that had little to do with the rest of the album, Temple of the Dog was a Seattle supergroup of sorts. Not everyone was quite famous, but they were all well known enough for the video to go into heavy rotation and for record sales to go quite high.

But the fact that there were a bunch of already famous Seattle dudes on the album that should have made it sell so well. It should have been the scope of talent. This album is in my Top 5 for that era, if not my Top 3, and kicks my ass every time I listen to it. Perfect for Autumnal Northwest afternoons with headphones (if you’re an apartment dweller) or a decent 5.1 (if’n ya got a house).
And seeing as how Pearl Jam is free of Vedder now that he has his solo junk out and Audio Slave is finally dead, I would like to think that I can hope for a “reunion tour” or some such gathering.

Anyway, your Pound of Sound this week consists of this pair

Reach Down

Jammy and the lengthiest track on the disc. Gotta have it.

Call Me A Dog

Just wow. and everything on this album is Grade-A Groove-Blues with just the slightest hint of Seattle Metal for flavoring.

Enjoy
