Who amongst the RNS readership can identify this version of an
infamous but courtly Old World greeting?
Hint: it’s Halloween-y.
No idea.
But I like it!
Dracula?
I cheated and abused my Google-Fu.
Dunno about all of it, but the first part sounds like the intro to the game 7th Guest, IIRC.
Derek’s right — it’s from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Dracula says it to Jonathan Harker after opening the door to Dracula’s Castle.
I don’t mind the “Enter freely” bit — any burglar who thinks it’s an invitation to him to come and go as he pleases is under the same misconception as young Harker about the geniality of his host.
