This Weekend is the Superbowl

…in my household.

At the age of eight or so I became aware of football, and when given a choice to pick out a plastic toy NFL helmet (about the size of a racquetball, it’s still in the garage somewhere), I picked the Steelers ’cause I thought it was the coolest-looking of them all. Shortly thereafter I actually saw the Steelers’ home uniforms. Mega-cool, and that cemented the Steelers as my team. Nevermind that I lived across the country from Pittsburgh and had never been to Pennsylvania in my life (still haven’t).

Anyway, from that early decision, I’ve continued with the Steelers as “my team” through the team’s few good years of my youth and the, well, the other years.

In the meantime, I fell in love with and married a football fanatic whose team is…

the Colts.

This Sunday’s Steelers-Colts game is the Superbowl as far as we’re concerned. Whatever happens afterward doesn’t matter.

(I just hope the Steelers don’t eke out a win by taking out Manning like they took out Palmer. That would probably result in me suffering grievous injury from thrown pots and pans.)

Yep, great NFL weekend. Seahawks tomorrow and Steelers Sunday. Tomorrow, steak and shrimp on the barbie, with a Firehouse 5 IPA (local brew), Sunday, Rib Roast with all the fixins and some fine Columbia Valley Cab-Merlot to wash it down with.

Very high “don’t giveashit factor” about the record-setting rains when there’s an NFL weekend like this.

UPDATE: Steelers Win! Fair & square, too. So I’m uninjured, but I’ve already been told I ain’t gettin’ any tonight.

    …It’s ALMOST worth it.
