The New Free Speech

And folks wonder why we say the UK is decending into madness.

From The New Criterion Blog,

By now you’ve likely heard about Behzti, the play closed in Birmingham, England by a rampaging mob of Sikhs. According to Salman Rushdie, who recently weighed in on the matter, the play “poses some awkward questions about sexual abuse which some Sikh elders may have found difficult to accept.” The response to these “awkward questions” was to destroy the theater, injure several policemen, force the closing of the production, and issue death threats against the play’s (Sikh) author. The response to that was this breathtakingly foolish remark from home office minister Fiona Mactaggart:

“I think that when people are moved by theatre to protest, in a way that is a sign of the free speech which is so much part of the British tradition. I think that it is a great thing that people care enough about a performance to protest.”

Well, if this form of ‘free speech’ ever comes to America, I’m driving straight to the Brady and VPC HQ’s.

I probably care more about their conspiracy to deny me 2nd Amendment rights that those Sihks did about that play.

I cannot remember where I found this, but thanks to whomever you are.
