It’s a good thing

That the Heartless Libertarian went east, because otherwise he’d probably be dealing with this.

That is a picture of Exit 82 over I-5 in Chehalis, Washington.

No worries here, that is not me in any way shape or form. I know that we flood here a lot and live on top of a big hill.

The dirt under these houses, on these other hand, is some of the most fertile on the west coast, precisely because of floods such as this one.

Btw, I’m not trying to mock them by saying that.

Here’s another shot, this one of Exit 77 where the tractor-trailers are stuck waiting for the waters to recede.

I sure am glad that this month’s gun show was last weekend because the fairgrounds aren’t too far out of the left hand margin of this shot.

They just opened I-5 this morning for commercial vehicles (read: tractor-trailers and/or trucks tall enough to ford 2ft of water).

But I think it is going to take a bit to fix up this kind of damage.

Of course, some folks up here are screaming “Global Warming!!! AHHH!!!”, neverminding that this sort of thing happens just about every single decade.

Others are yelling at Olympia, where the money flows from. Raising this stretch of the Interstate has been “planned” for some years now, but for some reason, “Light Rail” or some sort of “transit” project in the King/Pierce/Snohomish Tri-County area always gets to play with the money.

I say “play with” because you folks are paying for the installation of our current mass transit system.

Thanks. And yes, the wet-suits are uncomfortable.

  1. The thing that gets me is that they built the highway so low in the first place. I mean, it’s not like they did not know the valley floods regularly.

  2. The Mom says:

The paper this morning showed headlights back as far as you could see when those antsy, (but patient) truckers got moving again.

One DOT Inspector was quoted as saying “Let those truckers roll, 10-4” as they drove under the freeway overpass he was working on. Nothing like a good sense of humor to keep things in perspective.

I must say, it’s heartening to see so many pitch in and get the job done – even those who’ve lost more than their fair share.

  3. I didn’t live quite that far south…my house (now rented out) is off Exit 109, in Lacey.

Less than 2 miles from Cabela’s.

In the words of Douglas MacArtuher, “I shall return.”

We got about an inch or so of snow, with some ice following, up in DC.

  4. Lazarus Long says:

The Libs are always pushing rail transport paid for by the public purse. They seem to foget that the rail barons of a century ago were the capitalists that they so heartily villify now.
