Revving up for tax increases

In yesterday’s Seattle Times, they published a WaPo article about how the deficit will ‘increase’ if the tax cuts Bush and the Republican Congress put into effect aren’t repealed.

As per MSM standards, the aricle completely forgets to mention that the tax cuts have actually led to an increase in tax dollars coming into the treasury.

I don’t like deficit spending any more than you do, but if you need to make emergency home improvements (or fight terrorists) and you don’t have the cash on hand, you will need to take out a loan. And as long as someone is willing to lend you the money, you can’t be in all that bad of shape.

I just don’t understand how, when W-2’s will be coming out this upcoming week, the left of center folks can think they’re going to get any traction on this topic of telling people they need to pay more taxes.

The article includes this handy-dandy graph made by the AP from info gathered from the CBO

It shows that with the current projections, we will be out from under the deficit before 2015, and I’m willing to live with that, so long as the political pressure of living under a deficit means spending cuts in or the elimination of unnecessary fed programs and we keep killing terrorists.

And while the article hints at the quasi-accounting phrases “In the red/black”, I notice that the graph uses the colors red and blue, with the color blue standing for a surplus.

Very subtle, AP!

Of course, “Mr. No Veto Yet” has promised to finally use his veto if Congress overspends, but I’m not holding my breath while I wait for that.

Of course, the feckless asshats completely ignore the fact that it’s not how much money you make, it’s how much money you SPEND that determines the deficit. Grrrrrrrrr……

And if you propose cutting government programs, the people using the deficit as a political weapon right now start screaming bloody murder. Because they only care about a deficit when there’s a republican in office.

Fuck it. I say blow Washington D.C. away and start over. At least demolish the capitol building. Ain’t nothing good come out of there for decades.
