No, not a Yule Log. The T/C Contender affectionately known as “The Log” (the lower gun in the pic) is the gun of a Specialty Pistols member (not me) who goes by the name okiecruffler and has had a couple of barrels custom-built for his Contender by On Target Technologies that truly qualify as “Logs.” They are “stepped up,” that is, they’re the regular Contender diameter at the frame, and then much wider in diameter from that point out to the muzzle. With the forend attached one of these babies weighs 5 pounds in and of itself, without the rest of the gun! For a Contender, that’s h-e-a-v-y.
Which means little to no muzzle rise and very little rearward recoil, so much so that he’s been brave and mounted rifle scopes to his handguns.
I say “brave” because — well, watch the video and see how close the scope comes to his face.
The video gun is a custom gun in 7mm TCU, and he has the trigger set light enough to hit golf balls at 150 yards (which is what he’s doing in the video). That light trigger means that he has to smack the action shut in order to actually cock it (given the oddities of the Contender action). You’ll see a couple failures to strike; that’s why.
Oh yeah, these are accurate barrels. Here’s a 100-yard group with his 6mm TCU “Log” — he can’t seem to hit the dime, LOL.
I really ought to get back to finding projects for the T/C.
BTW… Glad you got a chance to pick up that S&W K22. That looks like a REALLY nice piece.
Yep, doin’ the FTF today if all goes according to plan.
As for the gun, well, I don’t mind a little pitting. Gives it character. And my 1917 needs a .22 stablemate of similar age. The 317 just doesn’t cut it. Now to find some Pearlite K-frame grips….
