That won’t be me

Blogger Patrick ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sadly, the “wrong place” was his home.

Hiding in my front yard from a shotgun armed maniac last night made me reflect on my libertarian leanings. The Second Amendment never seemed so clear to me as an individual right as I waited for the police to arrive, and waited. I was carrying only a telephone and a flashlight, and updating the 911 operator as the lunatic passed twenty yards from my position it occurred to me how very much I appreciate owning rifles, and how very, very far away they were at the moment. Although I also own pistols, for a shotgun armed assailant in the night, the accuracy and stopping power of a rifle spoke to me with urgent clarity.

Hit the link above and read on.

I’m not trying to and place myself on a pedestal here, but when I get home, I unsecure two firearms from the safe:

A 1911 and an MBR, usually my PTR-91, The Hun Bastard, or if I’m feeling lazy, an SKS.

While my move from the outskirts of Seattle, in King County, to the outskirts of Tacoma, in Pierce County, brought me to a nicer neighborhood for less monthly money, including the costs of the extended drive to work, I still have a difficult time trusting strangers.

Or caring about the safety of the random bad guy. Belligerently walking in front of my house brandishing a weapon gets you “put down”. Hard.

Dang, when I lived out there almost 20 years ago I never felt comfortable unarmed. And coming from Fayetteville, NC in the 80’s thats saying something.

Met a lot of great people but, also some of the biggest lunatics ever.

That should be a clue as to how bad Seattle is getting.

Too many bad guys these days have figured out that there just ain’t much to harvest in their local garden and that a quick car ride will put them into much more productive fields.

If you live in a good neighborhood- that’s just the place where they want to go.
