Previously, I linked to the Specialty Pistols website and showed off their spiffy logo.
Some of the guys who hang out on Specialty Pistols had attended Don Bower’s shooting clinics in the past, and this year they set up the S.H.O.T.S (Specialty Handgun Outdoorsman Tactical Seminar) for interested long-range handgun shooters. This wasn’t a Bower clinic per se, although they did have the 660-yard angle iron, but was more a roving field course with targets at various unknown ranges out to 1,000 yards, engaged from prone as well as seated benched positions.
Pics below the fold….
Here’s the range, the furthest target is @1k, nearest is 400 yards, you can also see the angle iron slightly right of center at 660. Notice that all targets are spray-painted white to maximize the bullet splash for the spotter.
Here was the silhouette range, again painted white, with 235-yard pig and 317-yard ram:
And here’s a few of the shooters!
This fellow’s taking a shot at the white spot on the hill way out in front of him.
This shoot was scheduled the month after Boomershoot, and I was scheduled to be there, but a family matter came up at the last minute and I couldn’t go. Everybody had a great time, and one of the young’uns apparently made a pretty good group on the 1,000-yard target, which he and his dad were quite excited about.
The next S.H.O.T.S is scheduled for 2007; in the meantime, a Bower clinic appears to be shaping up for Spring of 2006. If you’re interested, check out the Long-Range Handgunning section of the Specialty Pistols Forums for discussion — it’s a good group of folks!
