Iraq in Pictures: Day 2

After staging and waiting for their gear to arrive in Kuwait, the 1/189 hit the road into over the border into Iraq. Most of their stuff had to go by road, but some folks got the ‘Express Ride’.

The skybound travelers stopped partway for refueling in Al Kut.

Some of the former Iraqi Air Force aircraft were left intact by their former Iraqi flyers. Here are a couple of Soviet built Mi-24/Mi-25 Hind-D Assault helicopters still sitting on the tarmac.

After getting back up in the air the flyboys did a flyover of the town of Balad

One of the previous occupants found off the side of the road into Camp Anaconda.

It looks as though the guys and gals have put it to good use as a graffiti billboard/playtoy. Good for them.

Stop by tomorrow for some Chowhall Art and evidence of what happens when it actually rains over there.

See you then.

Iraq in pictures week: Day 1

Today at 1500, the Analog Wife’s parents will be touching down in Seattle for a weeks vacation. They’ll be staying with us for the duration of the week and tourist style adventures are planned for my non-work hours.

As you can probably guess, that will not leave me much time for blogging of any sort.

So this is the plan:

I have a collection approximately 50 photos or so from the Analog Wife’s brother, Everett’s, unit currently stationed at Camp Anaconda, Balad Air Base, Iraq. Because of the sheer number of pics I’ll be posting this week, most of them won’t be supersizable. But I don’t think anyone will mind if you snag them and upsize them your self.

I have chosen a number of them and categorized them so that I can quickly toss them onto the front page with some commentary/captions and get onto hanging with the in-laws. I figure, they don’t come out all that often and it is their son who is over there in the “hot-dusty-snady” fulfilling his duty, why not give them a week of my attention and you all a week of Everett.

Everyone wins!

Each day will cover a different aspect of life and times of Anaconda according to the 1/189th AVN BN personnel. So remember to stop by and take a looksee. I have sent an e-mail off to Everett to inform him of his unit’s starring role at RNS for the week, so hopefully, they’ll be stopping by.

Please feel free to leave comments on these posts so that I can forward them to the guys and gals of the 1/189.

So here we go with an intro,

Here’s Everett hard at work (or something), smiling on command as usual

Here’s the 1/189 AVN BN in full in front of one of their birds. I believe that is Everett in the second BDU cap from the right.

What is that, an official Montana DOT sign on the side of their Rec Building?

Why yes, it is!

Tomorrow we’ll see some pics of their trip to and their arrival from Kuwait to Anaconda.

See you here at that time.

Count Any Vote: Part Dvadtsat Chetyre

Part 24; Civil Right go out the Door!

They found another one, bringing the total number of unopened absentee ballots found five months after the election in King County to 94.

And remember, the election was decided by only 129 votes.

The precinct numbers on the ballots have been released, but the KCEO refuses to release the names of the individuals whose ballots were found stuffed into a box of envelopes to the public or even inform those individuals of their potential civil rights violations.

With the help of the release of the precinct numbers, it has been discovered that 86% of the ‘found’ ballots were from the 8th Congressional District, the most heavily Republican congressional district in the county, who recently elected former King County Sheriff, Dave Reichert.

We not only have King County council members calling for an independent DOJ investigation and for the resignation of KCEO director, Dean Logan, now we have former Washignton State Senator and September 11th Commission panel member, Slade Gorton saying King County “has the worst elections administration of any county in the United States of America.”

We also have an admission from the KCEO that their reports on the accounting for absentee ballots are utter and complete bullshit-made up-phony.

“The Mail Ballot Report, which showed every absentee ballot accounted for, didn’t report the correct number of ballots returned by voters. Instead, it simply added the number of ballots counted and the number rejected to show a perfectly matching number of ballots returned.”

And now we find that there may be at least one more ‘missing ballot’.

Local talk show host, Brian Suits of 570 KVI fame, recently returned from 12 months in Iraq where he directly helped establish and assist in the first Iraqi national elections, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart in the process, recently found out that while the KCEO did receive his absentee ballot for the primary election, they never received his ballot for the general on November 2nd.

And it wasn’t because he didn’t get it in on time.

In both the primary and general elections, the ballot was mailed to his house where his new wife, a local peace officer, inserted it into an oversized manila envelope and mailed it to him in Iraq. He filled out the ballot, put it into another manila envelope and mailed it back to her. She then put it into its official ballot envelope and sent it off to the KCEO.

But they say they never got it.

I hope they start going through the rest of those boxes of envelopes soon. I have a sneaking suspicion it is in there somewhere.

Which once again, leaves me no other choice but to post these.

Good luck Brian. You helped bring not only initial freedom to an oppressed people, but then gave them a true hand up by helping them decide their own destiny through the one person-one vote process.

And for those of you not in the Sea/Tac/Oly area, you can listen live to the stream from 1900 to 2100 PST.

And you should. This guy is the best host on the whole damn station and that is no small feat.

Paying out the Ass for Gas

While I don’t like the current price of fuel anymore than you or the next guy, I know that when I am told by the media that these are record prices that they are not adjusting for inflation (the true equalizer).

Also, if you add in the current MPG stats for today’s vehicles versus those of vehicles in the past, like David Peterson at Order from Chaos did, you might feel a little bit better.

Not much, but a little

Everything is under control

Or so they say.

The campaign for what promises to be one of the most bitterly contested parliamentary seats got off to an explosive start yesterday when the MP Oona King was pelted with eggs and vegetables as she attended a memorial to Jewish war dead.

Miss King, 37, the black Jewish Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, was attacked as she joined mourners to commemorate 60 years since the Hughes Mansions Disaster, when 134 people, almost all Jewish, were killed by the last V2 missile to land on London.

The eggs missed her, but one hit a war veteran, Louis Lewis, 89, in the chest and an onion struck Richard Brett, a bugler from the Jewish Lads and Girls Brigade who sounded the Last Post at the ceremony.

Miss King, who enraged many of her Muslim constituents when she openly supported the war in Iraq, told the crowd that the attack was one of the “saddest things she had ever witnessed.

But don’t worry, the Brits have everything under control.

Found at LGF of course.

Construction Time and Other Items

I’ll be taking this morning and spending some time building my Boomershoot shooting bench. I’ve got the majority of the raw materials so I’ll get it framed up and so close to done that 10 minutes of finish work will complete it.

Next week will be quite special and I will inform you of my plans tomorrow in the top post.

For today though, I want to show you something I found that I thought was cool.

A month or so ago I got my vehicle tab expiration notice that signifies I am about to get ripped off to register my truck with the state. We have mandatory emissions testing here and even though they say you only have to submit to the test every two years, I was made to take the test three years in a row due to the WSDOL (Washington State Dept of Licensing) screwing up. Let’s just say that I have learned to keep the receipt of my previous test so that I won’t have to go through that debacle again.

Anyway, the expiration notice is normally green in color, but this one was “blood bruise purple” so I knew there was going to be some sort of special fee that they were going to try to squeeze out of me this year.

And I was right.

I get to the licensing office to find that my current license plate is being retired and I have to pay for new ones.

No, I didn’t wear the old plates out, nor did I damage or destroy them. The state seems to think that after eight years of the super-intense Washington sunshine (yeah, right!) that the reflectivity of the plates has worn out enough that they require replacing.

I’m pretty sure it is just a scam to cycle people’s plates and money through their offices myself, but there is no fighting the swapping requirement.

Or so I thought.

I was doing some research at the DOL’s website to try and get out of it and found a new Commemorative Plate they came out with this year.

LEM plate.JPG

The Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation Commemorative License Plate.

I don’t have to pay the special $25 swap-out fee if I get these and I get to donate $40 of my license fees this time around to the foundation.

Oh, and I never have to swap them out again!

Fuckin’ A!

Imagine, No Tickets (unless you are doing something truly egregious or stupid)

Delicious

At the University of Immaculate Observation, there is a course on Confections. ‘Key to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ and all that hubbub means that, even though a woman’s assets and natural talents may win her a man’s mind, it takes a learned skill to get the ‘right’ man.

The course is taught by Miss Angela and she is a special woman who could take gravel, ground glass and Castor Oil and create a desert that would melt in your mouth and taste like heaven. I swear, she is just amazing in the kitchen.

I’ve seen her doing experiments in glazed fruit bread that had her covered head to toe in liquid sugar.

Which is why I wasn’t surprised to see her like this…..

Back to the Range

Found some more 308 ammo so I’m heading back to the range for some more practice with the Boomershoot rifle this morning. I’m almost ready to make the trip in a couple weeks. I just need a few more accessories that’ll make spending 8-10 hours standing around in a field more comfortable. Other than that, all the stuff, including ammo, is either here or on the way (finally).

I’m going to assemble the shelter cover for my shooting area and get to finishing my shooting bench this evening if the weather here is Seattle stays decent. When I’m done with my bench, I’ll be sure to post some pics, so I can get some constructive criticism on its design and modifications.

I hope you enjoyed the music yesterday and if you missed it, scroll down abit and try them out, they’ll be there until tonight.

Oh, and for a followup to yesterday, the job thing sucked a big warty ass. I didn’t know whether to be insulted or laugh my ass off.

Eh, easy come easy go.

Have good day and get out the range, dammit!

Humble Beginnings

Professor Booty here, I’m so glad to see you all back this wonderful Saturday.

If you remember last weekend, I was telling you all about some of the wonderful folks I work with in my work. We have visited the Audio/Visual equipment room and the Botany instructor so far, but today, I would like to show you someone without a prestigious title.

Cammy came to the Occidental Tush Institute with no money for tuition and no way to pay for room and board while on campus, but she did have an excellent work ethic. She slaved away her non-study hours for barely enough money to attend or eat plus some tips from the staff and the other girls and slept on the floor of a dorm room that was being remodeled during the day.

After a full school year of seeing how hard she worked to both keep herself in threads and food, we professors voted unanimously in favor of granting her a hardship grant. With that she got to share a dorm room with one of the other girls and received food tickets for the cafeteria, plus tuition.

And she kept doing the fine work she had been doing for the last three years she attended. She was sorely missed when she left.

But today she is famous, and most likely rich. ‘Tis a pity she doesn’t stop by more often, I’d like to congratulate her.
