Gettin’ High(er)

What with the arrival of my stimulus ribbate funds to top off the funds necessary to remove the training wheels from Buddy the Jeep, over the weekend I did my duty as a citizen and paid off my credit card before driving down to my favorite local tire shoppe who still has no website (name and address available upon request for South Sound tire shoppers).

The results are hard to discount. (click to enbiggen)

Savvy click to enbiggeners will notice the conversation starting Peace Through Superior Firepower sticker in the rear side window of that last pic.

My selection was the 265/75-16 Hankook M/T, which is an “E” rated copy of the Goodyear M/T tires, and a replacement for the factory rubber on the Dodge D-2500 and the Chevrolet C-2500. The “E” weight rating means that the steel Cragar wheels will now most likely fail before the tires will. That was part of the calculation in my tire size selection.

The “E” rating does effect the ride of a 3500lb Cherokee in ways it doesn’t a full size 3/4-ton truck, though not all of them bad, and some of them accountable to the mud terrain nature of the tires. At $106 per tire, I could finally get off the training wheels while saving up for a set of regular pavement use Cragar V-5 rims and Yokohama A/T-S tires that I have found also work well in the snow and light mud.

As for the remainder of the ribbate monies, I have no plans to buy any new firearms as I have no firearms on the “Need List”. Said list is instead littered with needed items such as gun parts, loaded ammunition and reloading supplies. So have no fear, the firearms industry will feel the wrath of my purchasing power.

As will my savings account and the local precious metals dealer. Just spreading the monopoly money love around a bit.

  1. guy says:

Have you looked at these Firestones?

You had mentioned the Geolanders a while back and I hit TireRack to look at ’em then saw these which are ‘sposedly higher rated. Anyone have any anecdotal stories of these?

My Cherokee is going to need new shoes fairly soon.

  2. Looks excellent, Phil.

Very subtle with the your lift and tire selection makes it look almost stock, while increasing your off-road options. Nicely done.
