Earlier, I posted a link to a report from a Marine on weapons, tactics, etc. in Iraq. Now there’s some question as to the authenticity of the report. Click here and scroll down to Letter from “Doug Carlton” Re: Discrediting the Lessons from the Big Sand Box: Firearms, Gear, and Tactics in Iraq Letter which begins:
Jim:
Unless you can actually verify the identity of the author of the “Firearms, Gear, and Tactics in Iraq” e-mail, then it is bogus.
Indigo Insights had the same piece, and she did a background check of sorts on it.
I reviewed it against my other sources, and find that the information is similar, if not identical, to what I heard elsewhere.
If it was bogus, the information would have been altered, and there would probably be anti-military slants in it. There aren’t any, in fact the article is devoid of politics, except to lambast the MSM for their failure to report the actual status of the war.
I’m retired military, and if I was writing an AAR on my tour, it would have read like this.
If it wasn’t actually written by a returning troop, it was at least dictated by one to a writer, but I don’t even think that was done, because the raw report, as I got it, had bad paragraphing, punctuation and some mis-spelling. In other words, the writer, while a sincere soldier, is probably a product of our do-nothing public school system, and not some journalist.
