New e-Postal Match Class

I’m adding a task to the optical magnifying sight class and instating the “Distance is Your Friend” Class.

5 targets – 2 shots each, or

10 targets – 1 shot each

Your ten shots on these targets will count as if you put ten shots on one target.

If the five target scenario is chosen, none of the shots on any one target can be consecutive.

Each target is placed at a random distance with the minimum distance being 100yds. The targets must be spaced a minimum 20yds away from all the other targets (measured from the firing position).

You ARE allowed to make point of impact changes in your optics in this class.

No rangefinders. These targets are advancing on your location and you don’t have time to give them a laze. Besides, if they were real looters, the distance would change by the time you set the rangefinder down and got into your scope. However, if you want to rangefind landmarks and put the targets near them, that is allowed. Knowing your distances beforehand is a good thing.

Cleaning out the Storeroom

Actually, it is just that I have a bunch of links which I had the best of intentions to actually write posts about, but time hasn’t been something of ready supply in the past couple weeks so they’re still sitting in my ‘Links’ folder.

Time for a blogburst! (In no particular order)

Notice: Due to Rivrdog’s pointing out my misuse of the word “Blogburst” I am now calling this post a “Menage a Blog” (’cause I’m f*cking with everybody).

I’ll see your Leading Man Quiz

And raise you a politics quiz!

I’ve seen this everywhere, but I clicked on it from Nukevet Neal’s place (still the best place to make donations to the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina).

(Below the fold because they won’t line up right)

Off to the Range

Is there really anything else that needs to be said?

Oh, wait, there is!

I’ll have an update to the September Rifle e-Postal Match tomorrow. Even if you’re not planning on participating at this time, stop by tomorrow.

We’re gonna make this even more fun!

Oh and I have a question: Does anyone know what happened to Boyds’ Gun Stocks web site? Theirs is the preferred product for my riflesmith and I can’t look at what they make for my 22-250!

Oh well, I guess I’ll have to spend my money here instead.

Definition

It’s Sunday with Dr. Thai today and we’ll be covering exercises that will define the leg muscles, among others. There are plenty of things ladies can do to build the muscles in their hips, thighs and calves, but not all of them will give the desired results of a comely leg.

Leg presses, squats and calf curls are just a few workouts that will build strength in the legs, but if there are no toning exercises done, she’ll just have a set of Clydesdale legs. Sure, she’ll be able to pull you truck up San Francisco’s Lombard Street, but will your belt unbuckle without you touching it for them?

I don’t think so.

Throughout my courses, I have classes on work outs that will define the legs to a tone unseen by man before the late 20th Century.

Saturday, Do Nothing Day

You got it; I’m even putting off going to the range today.

I need to redo my 200yd zero, but that’ll have to wait until tomorrow. I’m beat.

That, and I have my old gun locker that I have to transform into a storage cabinet for parts and gun cleaning supplies. Then I have to move approximately 800lbs of steel that will soon be transformed into targets from one location, about 40ft to another, less conspicuous location. Then I get to replace a light fixture whose internal switch crapped out.

So I guess I’m not ‘doing nothing’ today, just nothing interesting.

Something that is highly interesting though is The Carnival of Cordite, out today to Resistance is Futile! This week’s edition is marked by me as ‘Required Reading’. Yes, there may be a test on it tomorrow.

There is vital info on the Louisiana Gun Grab that you will want to read as soon as you have a few spare moments today. Hit the links, cut and paste, print it out and highlight the pertinent info, then re-read it and put it in a 3-ring binder to be read again in a week.

I’m not even shitting you.

And since that is the most important thing I can find going on (other than the picture of Bush’s hall pass to the UN bathroom might be a photoshop job), I’m going to leave it at that and wait for the noise ordinance to go away so I can start moving that steel.

Rangeday tomorrow, babay!

Saturday Leg-day

Hello everyone, Dr. Thai here again. The Professor has seen fit to shirk his weekend duties again, so I reluctantly agreed to fill in for him again.

He Smiles

While he bows his head in shame that he couldn’t pass up a deal.

Nope, just couldn’t do it. I made a stop into Palazzo Precision Rifles yesterday on my way to work to talk to the smith who built Barak the Boomershoot Rifle about re-stocking the Ruger 22-250.

After talking for a bit, I made mention that when I get this rifle done (stock, scope, rings and trigger) I would be ready to build my next rifle and I asked him if he still had any of the CZ550 Magnum actions that he had shown me when I made the final pick up of Barak.

To my wallet’s disdain, he said he did. One. He grabbed it out of the box in the safe that it and the other two had been delivered in and let me look at it.

550.jpg

Elegant lines covered in a deep presentation blue finish and weighing in at close to the same weight as my 1911. While turning it over in my hands I noticed that the serial number happened to also be the year I was born.

I couldn’t say “Sold fast enough.

The 2007 Boomershoot rifle is currently ready to be built. It’ll be chambered in .338 Lapua and based from the CZ action and my current thoughts are to have a 30in Hart stainless barrel (not counting the muzzle brake) screwed onto it. If I can find a double trigger set-up for it, I’m thinking of going that route.

None of the manufacturers of composite rifle stocks produce a stock for it as of now, but I’m thinking of laminated wood anyway. Nothing fancy, just nice enough to not make folks drool too much.

I say Boomershoot 2007 because Barak cost me *cough* a lot *cough* and took me from September 2004 to March 2005 to build because of that cost. I was broke for every single one of those months because every spare penny went into that rifle.

And while I didn’t enjoy the being broke part, I thoroughly enjoy every single time I put a round downrange through that rifle. I seriously cannot stop smiling when I pull the trigger and it puts the bullet right where I pointed it at any distance I’ve tried.

And I don’t want to not enjoy the building of the gun I have already named ‘Ma Bell’ (because I can reach out and touch someone with it), so I am going to take my time.

I’ll be getting the 22-250 ready for Boomershoot 2006 and I will attempt to dominate the 400yd targets with it, so long as I keep up with my wind doping practice this winter, and Barak will be there for the longer distance targets.

Just as an FYI, I do try to talk Mike Palazzo into getting himself a website every time I stop by his place. He is hesitant because he isn’t very web savvy. If you want to know more about Palazzo Precision Rifles, just click that ‘Email Me’ button in the right hand column and I’ll tell you everything I know.

Mike is the only smith I would pay to build me a rifle. Every penny spent is spent well and I could not recommend him more. This is coming from a guy who has dealt with easily 75% of the smiths in the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett/Olympia area at one time or another.

The Soundboard: You Know It’s True

Keeping with the live music theme from last week, I’ve got a smokin’ selection from Soul Brother #1, James Brown.

You’ll probably never see much of anything from him in the snark box, but only because I’m not about to try and figure out what the man is saying half of the time. I’d hate to screw that up.

Anyway, this selection comes from the Love, Power, Peace album that was recorded live on March 8th, 1971 at the Olympia Theater in Paris.

If you don’t have this, you need to buy it (c’mon, $10.99 is a lot less than I paid for mine). It truly is a smokin’ album and the energy of the show definitely comes through.

So here you go,

Bigfoot in Seattle

The drivers at my work have either a route sheet/map combo or a list of service tickets that they fill out and sign after completing the task/s. If they run into a problem they are supposed to call the office over the radio to see if we can straighten things out while they’re there.

Seattle, having been built on a shoreline, is rather hilly and sometimes our radios aren’t up to the task. In situations like that, the driver is supposed to move on to his next stop and call us when he can get out on the radio. Sadly, this doesn’t always happen and one of my tasks is to read through all that crap and find the missing pieces so that the next day’s business can be sorted out when/if the customer calls in wondering why their pick up didn’t happen the day before.

If there is parking lot resurfacing going on, obviously the customer would know this and we’ll come back and get them as soon at we can without messing up their new asphalt. If there is something in the way of the box, usually a car, and the driver cannot call it in, they are supposed to write down what is blocking it (make model, license plate number, etc.). You get the picture.

When they don’t do this, I usually end up putting something about the driver not specifying what was blocking, but last night was different.

Last night was ‘Bigfoot Night’

There are currently a half dozen customers in the system that have notes in the that go something like this;

“Route driver reports box was blocked, possibly by Bigfoot.

My name is connected to note in the system. The customer service reps know me and know not to read that to the customer unless absolutely necessary (like if the customer needs a calming down moment).

I’m sure to have an even more full than usual email box when I go into work tonight.

It is tactics like this that I use to get the driver managers get off their butts and remind the drivers that we need more information every time, all the time. Just asking never works.
