The Soundboard: Bandwidth Be Damned

Howdy all! I got hit with a music meme so The Soundboard will be two days early this week. I’ve got four days to burn up the rest of my bandwidth for the month and I’ll be sliding a few music tracks into this post, so if you swing by RNS Thursday or Friday and see we’re out of juice, you’ll know why. Last week’s track is now off the server and the track I had already selected for this week will be shown next Thursday.

The meme came from Ben the Reasonable Nut, whom I’ll thank very kindly and will remember the next time I get whapped with one of these things.

Q1 – How much music do I have?

A1 – You can’t be serious? I really don’t have that much time, dude. Here’s a pic of my ‘Heavy Rotation’ rack, which is complete disarray at this point and ready for me to refresh.

P9270002.JPG

That doesn’t include the 40-60 discs I travel with.

Q2 – What was the last CD I bought?

A1 – According to Amazon, the last CD on my last order was the Dead Kennedys: Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death which was a gift for the wife, but according to my receipt pile it was Haiducii: Dragostea Din Tei, a Romainian euro-pop single.

Q3 – What am I listening to right now?

A3 – My Afghan Whigs mix disc I have titled “The Greg Dulli School of Dating (if you don’t know the Whigs you might not get the joke).

Q4 – Five songs that mean a lot to me?

A4 – Only five? You mean just this week, right? OK (all songs are downloadable),

My Curse – Afghan Whigs. The Whigs had Marcy Mays fill in on vocals for this one, but it could have been sung by Dulli with nearly the same effect.

Analog Kid (Live Chicago 1998) – Rush. Guess Why.

The Caves of Altamira – Steely Dan. One of their best, in my opinion.

Gotta get through this – Daniel Bedingfield. A recent rediscovery.

Save a Prayer – Duran Duran. This one is a memory from way back.

One Caress – Depeche Mode. I bet you I could still sing this one.

Oops, that’s six. My bad. No, I haven’t been counting very long.

Q5 – I’m passing this meme on to:

A5 – Three souls (not so) deserving to get meme all over them?

Registration Leads to Confiscation

Well, let’s hope not in Mugwig’s case anyway.

The poor fellow is getting the run-around from the Canadian bureaucracy as he is trying to change the registration of his Franken Garand from a ‘receiver-only’ to a working firearm.

And all at his own legal peril while the government employees do nothing to help him.

The Canadian government: Doing whatever they can to make sure that good things like this totally unrelated incident don’t happen to their citizens.

Dumb Hippies Inc.

Take a moment and listen to this bit of comedic tunage directed at Moonbat Mama Sheehan I found at Knowledge is Power. I knew someone would do something like this, I just wish it had been me.

And along those same lines of proof that folks on the left just don’t know how insipid they are, after their weekend spasmapalooza in DC, the organizers are hoping for a wide turn out in their version of “Adopt an Intersection that I found at Smash’s place.

The plan is to have their loyal kool-aide drinking followers block off major intersections during the morning rush-hour. Of course, if you click on the link and look at their map you’ll see that they’re not surrounding Congress or even the White House, no, they are trying to make the workers of The World Bank and the Int’l Monetary Fund late to work.

I really hope that they don’t think they’ll be making any friends or will be influencing opinions with this crap.

Also, they might be able to get away with crap like this in places like San Francisco or Seattle or Portland, but folks in that part of the country are quite likely to just run their dumb asses over.

Link to the traffic cameras C-Span, I want to see Darwinism in action.

UPDATE: Uh-oh, it looks like Mama Moonbat may have punched a whole in her own ship.

From Saturday’s DailyKOS:

i am watching cnn and it is 100 percent rita…even though it is a little wind and a little rain…it is bad, but there are other things going on in this country today…and in the world!!!!

by CindySheehan on Sat Sep 24th, 2005 at 06:29:15 PDT

Casey’s mom had posted a transcript of her speech on KOS that morning for all the ding-a-lings to fawn over. She then came back later and left that comment.

A comment afterwards accuses the person of being a troll who is posing as Mama Moonbat, but the backgground on that comment match those made previously, so it would stand to reason that unless someone got into KOS’ system and jacked her ID, that it is her.

Others in the KOS community took swift notice, leaving comments such as:

I’m in Southeast Texas with family on the coast and in Lake Jackson, LA.

I’d like you to tell us it’s just a little wind and rain. They’ve lost their homes, jobs and businesses and gone through fear and panic while you bask in your fan’s adulation, party with your celebrity friends and play the star.

Shame on you, you’re jealous of media coverage of other’s suffering. You’ve become a caricature and I no longer support you. I’m ashamed I ever did.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again: Moonbase Sheehan is a media whore who sullies her son’s name and every other service member, even those who have only sacrificed one day’s time away from their families and homes.

Long Live Israel

The Captain is reporting that Israel is kicking some serious ass in response to Hamas’ rocket attacks over the weekend.

From the BBC:

The Palestinian militant organisation Hamas has announced an end to rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip after a weekend of escalating violence.

Up to 40 rockets had been fired at Israel, weeks after its military withdrew from the territory.

In response to the rockets, Israel resumed its policy of targeting militant leaders in air strikes.

Authorised by Ariel Sharon to make “unrestricted” strikes, its military launched new missile attacks overnight.

The BBC’s Alan Johnston says Hamas is in danger of being blamed by Palestinians for drawing Israel back into Gaza just two weeks after a withdrawal welcomed with huge relief by the local population.

From Captain Ed:

If one tried to construct the most foolish strategy possible on the part of Hamas and the Palestinians, it would have been to use Gaza as an attack site immediately after the withdrawal of the occupation. Hamas just found out that not only does that constitute an act of war, it also makes Hamas at best partisans, not covered under the Geneva Convention. The Israelis have no responsibility to treat them as POWs once captured, but as spies — unless Mahmoud Abbas wants to claim them as the Palestinian Army, which would then make the West Bank a legitimate theater of war as well as Gaza.

Although I’m sure the International Israel-hating community will call them the aggressors, I am glad that they have responded with overwhelming force.

Long Live Israel!

No Sale

So I went out looking at SHTF vehicles yesterday. Unfortunately, I struck out.

One of the local lots had put up a large number of advertisements screaming about a ‘Huge Sale!’ They were supposedly overstocked due to the “Employee Pricing scheme that is going around the different manufacturers. I’ve gotten deals at these things before since they usually consist of cars that the dealers don’t want to pay to have driven to the wholesale auctions and some good wheeling and dealing will net you a good vehicle at a better than fair price.

Not so at this place. There was nothing older than 1992 and once I arrived I found that there would be no haggling allowed; the price on the window was the sale price. The deals were decent but not great by any stretch of the imagination and I took a walk before the opening bell even rang as did over half of the people I saw arrive once they learned the non-advertised conditions.

Too bad for those guys.

But, in my attempts the night before to find out what vehicles they might have there I found a truck at a different dealership with close to the same name that fit my needs, at least on paper.

Getting Results

Hello again all. Dr. Thai here again.

I’ve decided that I can’t really get any further into the workouts I asign my students without giving away some of my secret techniques so I think I’ll just put up some of the results from last year’s graduating class.

News You Can Use

In fact, I suggest you use some of it today.

John Little, creator of The Blogs of War is in Houston and is currently sitting out Hurricane Rita. As of 2033 Central Standard Time last night, he reports that there were already looters roaming around the town before the storm hit. Not in anywhere near the numbers that were in New Orleans, but they were out. Some of the cars in his building’s parking garage were broken into and some of his neighbors armed themselves appropriately.

He has the pic to prove it.

Head on over and wish him, Jim and the Sloop New Dawn, Laurence Simon, Nukevet Neal and everyone else sitting through the hell of Rita good luck.

Which brings me to my next link, The Freeholder has posted Lessons You Need To Learn from Hurricane Katrina. Think of it as sort of a crib notes to the By Ourselves, For Ourselves series that I really need to get back up and finish.

I found the link to The Freeholder’s post via this week’s Carnival of Cordite, which is now up at Gullyborg’s Resistance is Futile! blog.

There is also much more there to read when you get some time.

And now I’m off. I have some SHTF vehicles to go look at (and maybe drive one home). Nothing like checking off boxes on your SHTF list!

See you tomorrow.

Tone Def

Howdy all! Just wanted to drop in and let you know that the Professor has again ‘left the building’ so to speak, but that is OK because I’ve got some stuff already set up for you since, after last week, that he’d bug out on us.

We’re going to stay on with some of the activities I have assigned to my students for toning up an keeping those legs attractive.

Something for that empty space on your wall

From BlackFive comes word of SoldierPhoto.Com where they sell prints by American soldiers to benefit American soldiers and the blog associated with it.

I’ve got my eyes on a couple already, and am trying to think of a way to convince the wife that an 18×24 of this would look great in the family room.

Go now and look around and buy, buy, buy.

The Way

If you remember this post about the first incidents of the taking of arms from the general populace in New Orleans, you’ll remember that I said something along the lines that ‘there was nothing much I could do from Seattle except send money to the legal fund’?

Well, here is the link to the place I sent my money this morning and where you should go now and give the SAF and the NRA until it hurts.

It can hurt now instead of having it hurt later, if you get my drift.

Roberts looks to be a 2nd Amendment = An Individual Right originalist.

I have a feeling that this will get to the SCOTUS and also a feeling that the Big Money Brady’s and VPC’s will be funding the anti-side if it gets that far. So let’s get the jump on them.
