Long Live Israel

The Captain is reporting that Israel is kicking some serious ass in response to Hamas’ rocket attacks over the weekend.

From the BBC:

The Palestinian militant organisation Hamas has announced an end to rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip after a weekend of escalating violence.

Up to 40 rockets had been fired at Israel, weeks after its military withdrew from the territory.

In response to the rockets, Israel resumed its policy of targeting militant leaders in air strikes.

Authorised by Ariel Sharon to make “unrestricted” strikes, its military launched new missile attacks overnight.

The BBC’s Alan Johnston says Hamas is in danger of being blamed by Palestinians for drawing Israel back into Gaza just two weeks after a withdrawal welcomed with huge relief by the local population.

From Captain Ed:

If one tried to construct the most foolish strategy possible on the part of Hamas and the Palestinians, it would have been to use Gaza as an attack site immediately after the withdrawal of the occupation. Hamas just found out that not only does that constitute an act of war, it also makes Hamas at best partisans, not covered under the Geneva Convention. The Israelis have no responsibility to treat them as POWs once captured, but as spies — unless Mahmoud Abbas wants to claim them as the Palestinian Army, which would then make the West Bank a legitimate theater of war as well as Gaza.

Although I’m sure the International Israel-hating community will call them the aggressors, I am glad that they have responded with overwhelming force.

Long Live Israel!
