Which Party is Actually Thinking?

The week before last was the Washington State Republican Party Convention. The most key thing to come out of the convention was the approval of adding a restriction to the 14th Amendment making it so that a person born on American soil must be born to citizen parents to themselves be a citizen.

I spent most of last week chuckling at the local leftist website who were going on their “That’s Racist!” tirade.

avatar28320_1.gif

Well, over the weekend, the Washington State Democratic Party also had their convention. Would you like to hear what they’ve added to their platform?

Democrats voted to approve a resolution calling for creation of a U.S. Department of Peace. The resolution calls on the state’s Congressional delegation to “support and cosponsor a Cabinet level Department of Peace & Nonviolence to be established to study and advance peace and nonviolence as the organizing principles in all human relations from families and neighborhoods, to courts and congresses, both nationwide and internationally.”

There is a difference between a goal and a fantasy. The Washington R’s may be hopeless, but at least they have goals. All the Dems have is shit and one hand and hope in the other: Hope that the electorate won’t see them as idiots.

I’ve Heard of ‘Revisionist History’

But this is just ignoring history.

The Arctic was once a lot like Miami, study says

Scientists have found something about the North Pole that could send a shiver down Santa’s spine: It used to be downright balmy.

In fact, the Arctic was a lot like Miami 55 million years ago, with an average temperature of 74 degrees, alligator ancestors and palm trees, scientists say.

That conclusion, based on first-of-their-kind core samples extracted from more than 1,000 feet below the Arctic Ocean floor, is contained in three studies published in today’s issue of the journal Nature.

Scientists say the findings are both a glimpse backward at a region heated by naturally produced greenhouse gases run amok and a sneak peek at what man-made global warming could do someday.

Mother Nature made it happen all by her lonesome before, but this time it has to be our fault?

I swear, this type of thinking has to be some sort of mental disease on the ego to make these people feel we’re so significant?

Staying on the same subject, the psychic-trust at the UW take a wild guess

An even grayer Seattle from global warming?

For those harboring the guilty hope that global warming will transform Seattle into a sun lovers’ paradise on par with the Côte d’Azur, meteorologist Cliff Mass has some bad news: It might actually get cloudier.

Mass and his colleagues at the University of Washington recently completed the most detailed computer simulation ever conducted of the region’s future weather. Among the surprises was a big boost in cloud cover in March, April and May.

“The spring is going to be gunkier — if you believe this — under global warming,” he said.

They took unfounded data and came up with an even more unknowing guestimate to scare people with.

No Cliff, I don’t believe this. Why don’t you and the brainiacs try and figure out what CO and CO2 do once they hit the atmosphere for me, before you start spinning the ‘Chicken Little’ wheel again. It doesn’t stay there, so where does it go?

Mmm-kay? Thanks.

Because she cares so much

Just so long as she doesn’t lose any votes over it.

Border duty will be optional for state’s National Guard, Gregoire says

Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire said she will not compel any of the state’s National Guard troops to serve on the Mexican border if they’re asked.

“I’m not going to force any National Guard member to go there,” Gregoire said.

“If I have volunteers who want to, we will support their request.”

President Bush wants to post 6,000 troops along the borders of four Southwest states during the next year as the government hires and trains new Border Patrol agents to capture people trying to enter the U.S. illegally.

The governors of those states — California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — signed agreements with the federal government Thursday to provide the first deployments of this effort starting this month.

Federal officials have not begun talks with Washington leaders on a similar pact.

So, what; is she going to ask for volunteers?

I’m sure her fellow Democrats in the statehouse will take time to call any volunteers racists when the time comes, because only racists want to stop Mexicans from coming across the border.

My Favorite Motto

Some dingleberry in New Hampshire’s State House is trying to get the state motto “Live Free or Die” changed.

He is, of course, a Democrat (like we needed to be told).

“I think that’s an in-your-face motto. It’s misinterpreted. It’s out of context. That’s not who we are,” said state Rep. Tim Robertson, a Democrat.

Well, Mr. Robertson, that might no be who you are, but that is hardly surprising now, is it?

Poor Idiot

OK, so I don’t really mean the title, I was just trying to tie-in with the title to this dipshit’s Letter to the Editor of the Seattle Times

Poor Mexico

So nearly the U.S.

Does Mexico have only itself to blame that so many of its citizens have entered our country to find employment? There was a time when Mexico’s territory included what is now the southwestern portion of our country.

Differences between the United States and Mexico — including an unwillingness on Mexico’s part to sell territory sought by the U.S. — led to a declaration of war by Congress on May 13, 1846. The principal aim was to occupy the territory that Mexico had been asked to sell.

The war ended disastrously for Mexico in 1848. By the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, our country acquired from Mexico land now making up all of California, Nevada and Utah; most of Arizona; and small parts of Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Altogether, the area totaled about half of Mexico’s territory. The United States paid Mexico [for this territory] $15 million.

Abraham Lincoln, at that time a member of the House of Representatives, was among those opposed to the taking of this land. Is justice served by our adopting harsh immigration policies regarding undocumented Mexicans?

And they wonder why we call them “The Blame America” crowd?

History Buffs Day 2

Another student of mine, who is also a lover of history, that I would like to tell you about is Miss Maria. She comes to OTI from Rome, Italy.

It is customer for modern day Roman residents to celebrate June 4th as the day the Allies captured Rome from the henchmen of Mussolini. Now, some neighborhoods don’t do anything on this day, but in some there are feasts and even small parades. Miss Maria is from one of the more celebratory neighborhoods.

In fact, one of the pictures she included in her portfolio to OTI during the admission process was this one

This is her, standing in her bedroom window during the portion of the parade in which the veterans of the Battle for Rome march past.

Talk about gratitude.

Bower Clinic Odyssey, Part Two

Day two of the Bower Clinic was spent, when shooting my guns, in a mostly fruitless quest to put a group on the 800-yard target with the Black Hills 168-grain load I’d been shooting all along. My spotter gave me good wind calls, but not only did I not hold consistently enough, I compounded that by trying to add my own wind doping to Steve’s calls (Sorry, Steve!). I connected a few times, though!

David at 8001.jpg

So on day three, when the instructors asked me what I wanted to accomplish on my last day, I said that I’d like to make some nice groups on a target as I really hadn’t done that yet. Okay, so they declared the 600-yard target as mine alone, and as I was out of the 168-grainers, I opened up a box of the 175-grain Black Hills and started sending ’em….

Bower Clinic Odyssey, Part One

As I’ve mentioned, at the start of the Bower Clinic, I had never fired any specialty pistol, including my own recently-acquired pair in .308 Winchester. But over three days, the instructors helped me improve a lot, as you’ll see from the pics below:

Keeping an eye on it

I haven’t mentioned anything about the moonbats protesting/blocking entry to the Port of Olympia as of yet because, in all honesty, crap like that is a daily occurance in Oly. If there isn’t something being protested in Olympia, it just means that the raw foods store forgot to wash their veggies well enough and everyone is on the commode with a mild case of eColi. That, or the drug supply is low and folks have had to go out of town to find their junk.

Over the past couple weeks, I’ve gotten a number emails asking me why I care to wade through the swamps at the dKos and then bring it back here. I have my reason and they are thus: In my early days here, I would do the exact same thing through my local Indymedia Centers, mostly because it is really cheap entertainment and easy blogging material, but also because you have to keep you eye on these losers and not give them any rest, otherwise they’ll think you’ve gone soft.

My local IMC has dried up and the Portland one is just too irrational to even make sense most days, so I have instead switched to the dKos, which is just as unhinged as the old IMC, but much more organized and with an easier to read format.

Like this post on the Oly Protests, complete with borrowed pics. The ‘diarist’ actually thinks the people there were “resisting the war” by breaking down the fence, slowing down deliveries and gernally making asses of themselves.

I do so love it when these self-important twits scream about living in a “police state” when, if they even had an inkling that people who actually DO live in a police state have to worry about being shot or their families being punished for their actions, they would hang their heads in shame at the very thought of those words leaving their mouths.

But my favorite phot by far is this one from Gateway Pundit’s Tuesday post

oly5.jpg

The newspaper’s caption for the photo was: Shouting, “Don’t do that again” a truck driver hauling a military cargo container cautions one of approximatley 40 Iraq war protesters after the protester slammed his sign down on the driver’s semi fender.

First off, as I’m sure you  and that protester noticed, that is quite a very large and unhappy finger. It is also connected to a large and unhappy privateer truck driver. I am quite sure that gentleman would have no qualms whatsoever with reaching down that anti-troops weenie’s throat and ripping his nuts off from the inside, and I’m also quite sure that the weeinie got that message.

After the weenie whacked the gentleman’s property with his sign, he is very lucky that that driver (and probably owner) of the truck decided that getting it impounded while awaiting his bail hearing for assault wasn’t how he wanted to spend the rest of his day.

On another note, isn’t the blockage of enroute war material sedition?

Not that the city of Olympia or the feds have the balls to arrest or prosecute for that.

Black and White

Two of my favorite contemporary comedians are Ron White and Lewis Black.

You probably know White from the latest version of Jeff Foxworthy’s White Collar Comedy Tour. His jokes are above average, though not especially groundbreaking, but his delivery kills me every time. The drink in one hand, cigarette in the other, raspy voice ‘Been There, Done That’ attiude combined with his material will set my sides to aching.

Lewis Black is probably best known for his ‘Back in Black’ special reports on Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Like Ron White, his material is also nothing truly new, and while I seriously doubt we’d agree on a whole lot politically, the majority of his jabs at the (R)s are right where I want them. Also like White, his delivery is what murders me.

Black plays the part of the exasperated citizen who just can’t believe the stupidity of it all. At times, he literally looks as if he is going to have an aneurysm right there on stage and, while I feel that way about what he is talking about, I manage to not look as completely unhinged as he does.

While I don’t watch a whole lot of TV, I have caught their Comedy Central specials via Comcast’s ‘On Demand’ feature and watch them whenever they’re available. I also have at least one of each of their audio CD’s. While I don’t listen to them all that often, I mention all of this because I have caught myself, and the Analog Wife has pointed out, that I have picked up one each of their mannerisms.

From White, I have snagged his nod when giving verbal topical warnings. If you’ve seen his “Tater Salad” special on ComCent, you may remember the line “You know, the next time you have a thought, just let it go.” I have that nod. If I can coordinate having something to drink in my hand, I unconsciously work that in as well.

But the really bad one, and the one that the wife caught almost immediately, is from Black. When he is in PG-13 mode and working himself into a fit, he draws out his F’s. For instance, if I were to tell you that Black is funny, it would leave my mouth as “Lewis Black is ffffffuckin’ hilarious.”

I’m working around them both, but I’m not finding it all that worrisome.
