Poor Idiot

OK, so I don’t really mean the title, I was just trying to tie-in with the title to this dipshit’s Letter to the Editor of the Seattle Times

Poor Mexico

So nearly the U.S.

Does Mexico have only itself to blame that so many of its citizens have entered our country to find employment? There was a time when Mexico’s territory included what is now the southwestern portion of our country.

Differences between the United States and Mexico — including an unwillingness on Mexico’s part to sell territory sought by the U.S. — led to a declaration of war by Congress on May 13, 1846. The principal aim was to occupy the territory that Mexico had been asked to sell.

The war ended disastrously for Mexico in 1848. By the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, our country acquired from Mexico land now making up all of California, Nevada and Utah; most of Arizona; and small parts of Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Altogether, the area totaled about half of Mexico’s territory. The United States paid Mexico [for this territory] $15 million.

Abraham Lincoln, at that time a member of the House of Representatives, was among those opposed to the taking of this land. Is justice served by our adopting harsh immigration policies regarding undocumented Mexicans?

Paul Simons, Seattle

And they wonder why we call them “The Blame America” crowd?

One Response to Poor Idiot

  1. What he totally neglects to mention is that Mexico wanted the war just as much as the US did, their motive being to reclaim Texas. (To this day, they regard the treaty that recognized Texas’ independance as illegitimate, because Santa Anna was ‘coerced.’ Hint guys: that’s what happened when your commanding general is also your head of state and gets captured.)

So, of course, the Mexicans put him in charge of their army when they went to war with the Americans in 1846.
