The Two Dumbest Things I’ve Read All Day

This is the first installment of a set of posts where I will write about the “Dumbest Thing I’ve Read All Day”.

With today being the inaugural day, I’m going to start out with two, mostly because I couldn’t decide which one was more ignorant. On an average day, I toss out four ignorant leftist posts for every one you see. They generally get tossed out because with the exposure to the gross stupidity of the truly dumb links you might just say “So what?” to the ones that get tossed.

First up is “Katrina: This is what America looks like” by ‘terjeanderson’, inmate at the dKos Animal Farm and Petting Zoo.

‘terjanderson’ shakes his/her impotent fist at Ma Nature and says that if she would have swung Hurricane Katrina into New Orleans after the first of the month instead of at the end of the month, more of “the poor people” would have been able to cash their welfare checks and get out of town.

If you want to understand exactly how cruel and disastrous Hurricane Katrina was to hundreds of thousands of people, you need to understand just one simple fact: Katrina hit on the 29th of the month.

The 29th! If only Katrina had held off a few more days and hit on September 2nd, what a different world we might be seeing.

Most upper and middle-class Americans probably don’t get the significance of that date. If you’re not someone who depends on welfare, on food stamps, on a disability check, or you’re not someone who simply lives paycheck to paycheck, the complete horror of a disaster hitting two days before the end of the month may be lost on you.

Let us not even dwell on the issue of what business is it of the government’s to give money away, let us instead wonder if that crazy ‘ol Gaia was committing a sweeping act of ‘survival of the fittest’?

Yes, that is a cold, mean and cruel thought, but if you are able bodied, just what are you doing not working hard enough to provide for your own safety? Why have you chosen to make someone else, and especially a soulless government entity, worry about you?

Also tied for first place is this diary from elishastephens titled “A Tale of Two Armies”. It appears that she is from the “dKos Coddling Murderous Dictators Brigades” because in her diary, not only does she compare the two island nations of Australia and Cuba, she reckons that Cuba comes out on top.

Cuba and Australia are similar in a number of ways. Both are islands. Both have relatively small populations (11 million and 20 million, respectively). Both are sports-mad countries, which always stand atop the rankings of medals/population at the Olympics. Of course, there are striking differences between the two as well – Australia is led by a right-wing warmonger, while Cuba is led by people with rather different values. By coincidence, articles in the news today tell us that both are enlarging their armies, in rather different ways which reflect those values.

Australia’s army is of the traditional type that makes things go boom, and they just increased by 2600 men and women. Thank you sirs and ma’ams

Cuba’s new army is 3900 new “doctors”.

She doesn’t bother to wonder which army she’d rather have if her home town were invaded, or about the competency of Cuba’s new “army”. In fact, the rest of the body of the diary is spent complaining that the US turned down castro’s offer of medical personel.

Nor does she mention about how, if in Australia, she’d be perfectly able to complain about the man she called a warmonger, or about, if she were in Cuba, she be put in jail and tortured for complaining about anything supported by the state.

But I have a strange feeling she’d see it as a people’s paradise and not issue one single complaint up until the day she caught her flight home.

Because unlike the Cuban people, she could always leave.

BTW, who roots for and knows how many medals Cuba won in the Olympics?

The shoe fits

But the Lamont supporters don’t like the look of it

This pic is circulating across the left wing of the blogsphere like wild fire

And they’re angry about it.

They thought the papermache float depicting Bush and Leiberman in a lip lock was hilarious. For a couple weeks, you couldn’t stop into the dKos and without seeing it.

But this is a “truly dispicable joke”.

They wanted to play political hardball, this is it. Free beers if I ever meet this guy.

More: They refuse to talk about issues

The local Democrat Party has decided that debating the issues with Mike McGavick, the Republican challenger for Maria Cantwell’s Senate seat is a losing proposition, because they are now suing McGavick’s former employer, Safeco Insurance, to discover if he was the one who initiated the use of credit scoring potential customers.

Safeco Insurance, formerly run by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick, is fighting a Democratic Party attempt to obtain information about its use of credit scoring to cancel automobile-insurance policies.

As Safeco’s president and CEO, McGavick promoted the use of credit reports as an effective tool to predict who might be at higher risk for an accident.

This is, of course, a blatant partisian attack. They only want this information so that if their guess proves correct, they can attempt to use it as a crudgel against McGavick in campaign commercials and literature.

Some consumer advocates, though, say credit scoring discriminates disproportionately against the poor and minorities.

A credit score is a number generated by a computer analysis of data in a consumer’s credit history.

Safeco relied on credit scoring to cancel more than 2,000 auto-insurance policies nationwide, The Wall Street Journal reported in 2002. The company said it had 2.8 million policies at the time.

Being late on a few bills would not have gotten people cancelled, as can be witnessed by the miniscule number of cancellations. Being a complete credit cheat would.

The Democrats want to use this to call McGavick a racist, but I doubt that if they get the information, they’ll have the numbers to back that up. Not that it’ll stop them from trying.

A Day Not Entirely Wasted

Yesterday, I spoke of returning to an activity I had been neglecting as of late. Oddly enough, David’s comment reminded me of another hobby that I had set aside, and that one I would like to touch upon just for a sec.

I have been neglecting my small single malt collection in that, until the end of May, I couldn’t remember when I had put it after the move in March. Since then, I have been neglecting it by staying too busy to be able to enjoy any of them. I have instead been enjoying the rarity of a good Porter beer with my steaks. You can keep your Stouts, I’m sold on the Porter. I have not as of yet found a brewery who makes a bad one, thought the Deschutes Brewery’s Black Butte Porter is in ready supply in my area and is my most common purchase.

That will change next weekend when I’m hoping to have veal and scotch. I’m still selling the wife on this, so we’ll see. Any grilling tips or suggested side dishes for veal out there?

But back to the original topic: Firearms

I am quite afraid that it has been a couple months since I had drug my ass to the range. In fact, I can’t remember going since June. This was entirely too long a span by anyone’s meter, and no fair state for a gun-blogger to be in, so I got together with my co-worker and RNS commenter, Paul, to meet him the indoor pistol range yesterday.

Alas, we arrived to find that the HVAC system the range uses to clear the lead and smoke from the range had broken down and they were not allowing anyone in. Range box packed, didn’t forget a thing, not even the camera and spare batteries, and I had the rug pulled out from under me by faulty electrical parts.

So I would like to put forward an invite for anyone and everyone who wishes to do so to meet me at Champion Arms In North Kent next weekend. Leave your name and email addy if you’re interested. I haven’t settled on a day yet as I want to get with Paul to see what works best for him, so let me know what you’d like to and we’ll see if the Range Genie smiles on us.

One thing I was able to finally do was see a friend of mine engage in personal captialism.

The lady who has done all my tattoo artwork, Majenta, whom I’ve posted about here before, has opened her own shop in the burg of Renton.

Diamond Tattoo and Body Piercing

Diamond1.JPG

They’re still putting on the finishing touches before and after hours, but the place is wonderful inside. That is her pink 66 Cuda out front.

Diamond2.JPG

Business is off to a very good start, not a slow day for opening week, with this lucky young lass being the first customer of the day. That’ll be Majenta with the hair that matches the car.

If you are in the market for a tattoo, want something that no one else has and want it done by an actual artist who knows what she is doing, you will find no better than Majenta.

Her website is still just one page, but here is the link. As they expand it, I’ll be getting this on the blogroll.

Monday Dog Blogging

For the last week, the Analog Wife and I have been hosting what has become the newest member of the Analog Household.

Her name is Mrs. Butterworth

Butterworth2.JPG

She is a 10yr old tweenie Dachsund and we found her via a local Dachsund rescue. Butterworth’s history is a mostly unknown to us, though she looks to have been a breeder who just got too old to be useful.

She has a skin condition that requires her to get a bath every 2-3 days and requires a special diet. Two very minor points that, unfortunately, make the vast majority of folks looking to adopt turn her away.

The Analog Wife fell in love with Dachshunds after adopting Jake a few years back. With the grief of his passing back in February in the past, she decided that it was time for us to improve the living conditions of another.

Mrs. Butterworth has already taken on Ellie, our Rott/Dobie mix, and won the barking war, but since Butterworth can’t get up on the dog bed because of its height, a truce has been called. Our Dorgie, Russell, isn’t bothered in the least bit by her, although Butterworth’s frequent baths are beginning to worry him that the wife will want to get him bathed as well.

Speaking of Russell, he was very photogenic this weekend

Look at that handsome profile. Much more respectable than his last appearance on these pages

A Slight Change in Direction

Some folks noticed that last week I stepped up to posting a larger number of items involving idiotic or moronic statements from the left side of the blogosphere than usual. Not all were happy about it. I didn’t get actual complaints, but some were wondering if I was feeling allright or if there was a reason I was especially grumpy.

To answer those in a word: Yes.

I am feeling quite fine, but I am grumpy I have come to the conclusion that the left wing of the United States is no longer worthy of the tile “The Faithful Opposition” and I have no faith that the right wing will meet my expectations. I have actually known the first part of this since at least 1999, but now that they refuse to take anything regarding this nation seriously and are only willing to oppose or promote something if it will help them regain their previously held stranglehold of power I’ve decided that I’m going to blog the as much of their own ignorance as possible. They don’t care about the security of the nation or its citizens, nor do they care about being honest and forthright, so I have started along a path to show them out on their ignorance and the insipid items they use to bring themselves back into national politics at a competitive level.

Yes, there are already other sites that do this, some of them even do it better; but one more blog in the mix isn’t the worst thing in the world. I will do my best not to become overly negative, but there will be moments when I have nothing left but disdain for them.

The left’s hypocrisy has become so overt that at times I cannot even stand to be in the same nation as they. They will call me a puppet of dictators and an authortarian in the same sentence. They refuse to respect my rights as a citizen. They want to tell me what I am going to do and how I am going to do it, and for that, they have won the grand prize of my neverceasing spite.

Currently in Washington State, there is a House race where the left has called the Republican incumbent “a rubber stamp for Bush”. Yet I watch as the mentally deranged leftists spit on Senator Joe Leiberman and threaten to withhold support from Washington’s junior Senator, Maria Cantwell. These are their punishments for not voting the party line.

I see a man who has run an honest campaign, following Reagan’s 11th Commandment and telling the public of the things he has done which he is most embarassed by in his life, being used as fodder for drinking contests. None of his issues are being challenged because they would rather whistle from the peanut gallery and call him a drunk.

Fuck them. You can tell me that I’ve just gotten worked up over election-year political hackery, but I’ve had all I can stand and I can’t stands no mo.

Also here in Washington, judicial candidates who lobbyied for support from single issue PACs, and won their support are now being attacked politically by a Governor who won by fewer votes than the number of dollars I pay in state taxes per week. The crime of these judicial candidates: they didn’t lobby the right PACs. In fact, it has gotten so twisted that a group with a PAC of their own attempted to sue the other PACs.

I don’t have to put up with this, so I won’t be. This election is becoming one where one side wants to kill terrorists and the other just wants power; they’ll get around to those terrorists when they’re done celebrating.

All I have is my vote and this blog. Because I’m not a Democrat, I can only vote once in the primary and once in the general election.

But I can run through here every-got-dam-day.

I apologize ahead of time if these types of posts are not your cup of tea. I still value your opinons and comments as I have in the past, so feel abliged to cut loose in the comments section at your own free will.

To be perfectly honest, I was somewhat tiring of blogging everyday, and this new pissed-offed-ness has rekindled the fingers want to tap keys a bit. To also be perfectly honest, I have given up on most of the right wing of the blogosphere, except for a select couple dozen blogs of people I know and respect. You may see some changes in the blogroll in the future to reflect this.

I have, for the past month or so, begun reading more left wing blogs than those on my own political side to get away from the parroting I find all around the right side of the sphere. I have tired of reading the same story with the same opinion twenty times a day. At least when the left parrots something, I can count on a few very loose screws to make the discussion somewhat interesting.

I have never really done well in reading items that I agree with, preferring to read items on subjects I could never stand for. It makes for a good mental workout to formulate analytical arguments ahead of time so as to be preprared for the real thing.

Do not fear that I am being drawn over to the dark side. Unless I take a direct hit from a ‘Stupid Grenade’, they will never win me with they’re policies. There is still nothing to fear when I hit the ground.

Except for me, of course. I’ve always been my own worst enemy.

Because they respect the voters

The looney leftists don’t want to give them a choice

Seriously, it’s time for the Green party to get the hell out of here and stop throwing elections to the Republicans.

John in DC at AmericaBlog

Or a even a vote to some. This is a suggestion that because older voters tend to vote to the right, there should be an age cap on voting rights, to equal out the cap on pre-18 year old voters.

Are you not mentally qualified to vote at age 17? Is there a magic button that you press when you become 18 that somehow enables you to sensibly take part in our nation’s political decision making process?

I say no.

I think the National Youth Rights Association make their case well enough.

I think that people much younger than 18 should be able to vote and take part.

So why don’t we do the same thing for the elderly? Why don’t we take the average age of death by the most recent stats, and subtract 17? Why don’t we set that as the “Maximum Voting Age?”

Really, in many more cases than with children interested in politics, an adult becomes senile or quite mentally disabled within the last 15 years of their lives. But they still vote… and how do they vote? Sometimes they’re told how to vote, and sometimes they choose. But I don’t see why this tyrrany of the elderly has to go on any longer than it has.

And I don’t want to hear any “ageist” nonesense. This is just an observation I had from my own grandparents and relatives conditions in the last 10 years of their lives. I’d very much rather have 12 year olds voting… 100% I’m sure of that.

I think if we’re going to be so weird about the voting age limit for the young, then we need to make the system equal and fair.

We need an age cap on voting.

This person believes that a declared age of majority is “weird”.

No doubt, they believe the necessity of citizenship is ‘truly strange’.

I’m Confused Now

Martin Luther King Jr wanted America to become a nation where people were judged not on the color of their skin, but on the content of their character.

Institutionally, and for the most part the citizenry as well, has done exactly that. Then the hate and segregationally driven mandate of Affirmative Action arrived, and we were back to looking at skin color as a definitive point for deciding things such as who gets government jobs and who gets into the best schools.

That beast has been out into a coma, most thankfully.

But it is not dead yet, and some folks, notably on the left, are angry that we have a national policy of color-blindness.

Bush’s racial policy of “color blindness” is a public policy of benign neglect of racial problems. Color blindness is a whitewash of racial issues because it disenfranchises black Americans by ignoring them as politically insignificant.

(snip)

Black writer Ralph Ellison once observed that the hidden injury of racism was the way a bigot looked right through a black man, as if he didn’t exist. In the jaundiced eye of the white bigot; black folks don’t have a soul like the rest of humanity. For many white Americans, black Americans are devoid of any redeeming features as a human being.

Bush’s policy on racial color blindness confirms that attitude. It allows white Americans to insulate themselves from any discussion about the hidden injuries of race. Racial color blindness is about the most racially divisive public policy that a president could dream up.

Like I said in the title, I am confused now.

Not paying attention to or caring about the skin color of my fellow man/woman is now considered racist because I’m ignoring something someone else of my own skin pigment may or may not have done to them or their ancestors?

I will never understand the liberal mind, and frankly, I don’t want to.

The post that the above diatribe came from was sparked by the case of the Louisiana school bus driver who had black students move to the back so that she could seat some white students up front.

Am I the only one who believes the part of this story that will never come out is that the white students were trouble makers and the bus driver wanted them seated right up front where she could keep an eye on them?

A Return of Sorts

I made a little spare cash yesterday with some items I put up for sale at the Analog Mom’s garage sale, so I am going out to move the economy forward and spend it on an activity which I have spent too much time apart from these past couple months.

I’m sure some of you all know the activity of which I speak. And I’m sure that some folks are a bit miffed that I have not posted on the particular activity in the duration of my time down.

Anyway, pictures tomorrow.

I’ll also be introducing you all to a new member of the household. Unlike my last two aquisitions, this one is not a truck or any other type of mechanical device.

And lastly, I’ll also be (hopefully) reporting on a newly opened business of a friend.

So,  busy day for me today. I’ve got to pack the carriage, so I’ll be off.

Have a good day.

Piling On

The Repub challenger to Senator Maria Cantwell’s seat in Congress, Mike McGavick, decided that honesty is the best policy.

U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick, in an unsolicited confession of “the very worst and most embarrassing things” of his personal and professional life, revealed Thursday he was charged with drunken driving 13 years ago.

And for being honest, the local left is breaking his balls.

I’d like to perform an experiment, and I’m looking for a couple of volunteers.

First, I need somebody with a good quality, professional “breathalyzer.”

Second, I need an approximately 200-pound man, willing and able to consume eight drinks in a single hour.

If we can get both of these to this Tuesday’s Drinking Liberally, I’d like to see exactly how many drinks it takes to achieve a 0.17 percent blood-alcohol level, and a general idea of the associated level of impairment.

They want to nitpick a 13 year old traffic violation instead of debate things like, oh I don’t know, National Security or Energy Policy.

Don’t misunderstand me; DUI is one of the worst violations of trust a person can inflict upon their fellow citizens and is not treated criminally seriously in my mind, but this is one arrest (there was no conviction) over a decade ago. If McGavick had two or three DUI arrests over the period of two or more decades, then I would have a problem.

But the local left is looking for any reason to hammer on the guy who is gathering momentum on their candidate, and this is the best they can do.

And no, if the tables were turned, a 1993 Cantwell DUI article wouldn’t even make to this blog and I would chide those would post on it.

That is how much of a non-issue it is.
