A Day Not Entirely Wasted

Yesterday, I spoke of returning to an activity I had been neglecting as of late. Oddly enough, David’s comment reminded me of another hobby that I had set aside, and that one I would like to touch upon just for a sec.

I have been neglecting my small single malt collection in that, until the end of May, I couldn’t remember when I had put it after the move in March. Since then, I have been neglecting it by staying too busy to be able to enjoy any of them. I have instead been enjoying the rarity of a good Porter beer with my steaks. You can keep your Stouts, I’m sold on the Porter. I have not as of yet found a brewery who makes a bad one, thought the Deschutes Brewery’s Black Butte Porter is in ready supply in my area and is my most common purchase.

That will change next weekend when I’m hoping to have veal and scotch. I’m still selling the wife on this, so we’ll see. Any grilling tips or suggested side dishes for veal out there?

But back to the original topic: Firearms

I am quite afraid that it has been a couple months since I had drug my ass to the range. In fact, I can’t remember going since June. This was entirely too long a span by anyone’s meter, and no fair state for a gun-blogger to be in, so I got together with my co-worker and RNS commenter, Paul, to meet him the indoor pistol range yesterday.

Alas, we arrived to find that the HVAC system the range uses to clear the lead and smoke from the range had broken down and they were not allowing anyone in. Range box packed, didn’t forget a thing, not even the camera and spare batteries, and I had the rug pulled out from under me by faulty electrical parts.

So I would like to put forward an invite for anyone and everyone who wishes to do so to meet me at Champion Arms In North Kent next weekend. Leave your name and email addy if you’re interested. I haven’t settled on a day yet as I want to get with Paul to see what works best for him, so let me know what you’d like to and we’ll see if the Range Genie smiles on us.

One thing I was able to finally do was see a friend of mine engage in personal captialism.

The lady who has done all my tattoo artwork, Majenta, whom I’ve posted about here before, has opened her own shop in the burg of Renton.

They’re still putting on the finishing touches before and after hours, but the place is wonderful inside. That is her pink 66 Cuda out front.

Business is off to a very good start, not a slow day for opening week, with this lucky young lass being the first customer of the day. That’ll be Majenta with the hair that matches the car.

If you are in the market for a tattoo, want something that no one else has and want it done by an actual artist who knows what she is doing, you will find no better than Majenta.

Her website is still just one page, but here is the link. As they expand it, I’ll be getting this on the blogroll.

  2. Dang, got a hanging plate shoot on this Saturday and a pin shoot on Sunday. Wish I could be there! (For the shooting, not the tatoos)

Vewal? I make Osso-bucco with veal shanks, or with a veal cutlet the usual standby is Wienerschnitzle. I guess those aren’t a side-dish – but scalloped potatos are! Or red-cabbage kraut.

Deschutes Brewery’s products are delightful. Give the Obsidian Stout a try. Wonderful!
