The Two Dumbest Things I’ve Read All Day

This is the first installment of a set of posts where I will write about the “Dumbest Thing I’ve Read All Day”.

With today being the inaugural day, I’m going to start out with two, mostly because I couldn’t decide which one was more ignorant. On an average day, I toss out four ignorant leftist posts for every one you see. They generally get tossed out because with the exposure to the gross stupidity of the truly dumb links you might just say “So what?” to the ones that get tossed.

First up is “Katrina: This is what America looks like” by ‘terjeanderson’, inmate at the dKos Animal Farm and Petting Zoo.

‘terjanderson’ shakes his/her impotent fist at Ma Nature and says that if she would have swung Hurricane Katrina into New Orleans after the first of the month instead of at the end of the month, more of “the poor people” would have been able to cash their welfare checks and get out of town.

If you want to understand exactly how cruel and disastrous Hurricane Katrina was to hundreds of thousands of people, you need to understand just one simple fact: Katrina hit on the 29th of the month.

The 29th! If only Katrina had held off a few more days and hit on September 2nd, what a different world we might be seeing.

Most upper and middle-class Americans probably don’t get the significance of that date. If you’re not someone who depends on welfare, on food stamps, on a disability check, or you’re not someone who simply lives paycheck to paycheck, the complete horror of a disaster hitting two days before the end of the month may be lost on you.

Let us not even dwell on the issue of what business is it of the government’s to give money away, let us instead wonder if that crazy ‘ol Gaia was committing a sweeping act of ‘survival of the fittest’?

Yes, that is a cold, mean and cruel thought, but if you are able bodied, just what are you doing not working hard enough to provide for your own safety? Why have you chosen to make someone else, and especially a soulless government entity, worry about you?

Also tied for first place is this diary from elishastephens titled “A Tale of Two Armies”. It appears that she is from the “dKos Coddling Murderous Dictators Brigades” because in her diary, not only does she compare the two island nations of Australia and Cuba, she reckons that Cuba comes out on top.

Cuba and Australia are similar in a number of ways. Both are islands. Both have relatively small populations (11 million and 20 million, respectively). Both are sports-mad countries, which always stand atop the rankings of medals/population at the Olympics. Of course, there are striking differences between the two as well – Australia is led by a right-wing warmonger, while Cuba is led by people with rather different values. By coincidence, articles in the news today tell us that both are enlarging their armies, in rather different ways which reflect those values.

Australia’s army is of the traditional type that makes things go boom, and they just increased by 2600 men and women. Thank you sirs and ma’ams

Cuba’s new army is 3900 new “doctors”.

She doesn’t bother to wonder which army she’d rather have if her home town were invaded, or about the competency of Cuba’s new “army”. In fact, the rest of the body of the diary is spent complaining that the US turned down castro’s offer of medical personel.

Nor does she mention about how, if in Australia, she’d be perfectly able to complain about the man she called a warmonger, or about, if she were in Cuba, she be put in jail and tortured for complaining about anything supported by the state.

But I have a strange feeling she’d see it as a people’s paradise and not issue one single complaint up until the day she caught her flight home.

Because unlike the Cuban people, she could always leave.

BTW, who roots for and knows how many medals Cuba won in the Olympics?

One Response to The Two Dumbest Things I’ve Read All Day

  1. “Cuba is led by people with rather different values.”

Yes, they’re rather different. Cuba is led by a mass-murdering communist dictator who puts librarians in prison for laughs.
