Rules of Life

Still a bit under the weather. I’m pretty sure that my month on the island has contributed to my lack of immunity.

However, my loss is your gain! Not ‘motivational’ per se, but life rules.

To follow up on a note from yesterday’s comments, Mr. BoomBoom, what I will be sending you is exactly what you requested: Images of Julia and Jesephina.

Mr. Rivrdog, if you were to see what I am sending to Mr. BoomBoom, you would not think me insulting.

The Real Numbers on Iraq

Excellent post over at Redstate: the death rate of US soldiers in Iraq can be shown to be less than that of US civilians at home — in fact, less than that among young African-American males in urban Philadelphia.

Yes, I know the old saw about lies, damned lies, and statistics — but the U. Penn demographer whose article’s discussed in the post does a pretty good job. Wonder if Philly has an area similar to what they used to call Boston’s “Combat Zone?”

Anyway, that there’s some excellent perspective on the Iraq war’s cost in blood to the US — not that it will change the mind of anyone on the left of course.

24 Dittoheads Alert

I’m watching C-SPAN as usual and right now there’s Rush Limbaugh hosting a panel at the Heritage Foundation. It’s titled Public Image of US Terrorism Policy, but it’s really about the Fox TV series 24. It has writers, producers, and Chloe (!!!), Coma Dude (Tony), and Ex-President Weasel, who gives us a glimpse of what Nixon would have looked like with a Gore-style beard.

Unfortunately, the setup is such that Rush can’t hear the panelists’ answers, so although he’s making a game effort at witty repartee, it’s not very smooth. Earlier Secretary Chertoff (a fan) apparently made some remarks. But who cares about that, what matters is it’s a panel about 24! Recommended.

As if they knew

About David’s post from yesterday, CNN released that they’ll be replaying the live coverage from September 11th, 2001 on the fifth anniversary of the attacks, this year.

I’ll be watching, as should every American both above and below voting age.

One unfortunate point is that they’re only doing this on their website. Fox should one up them and replay their footage, from 0800 to 2000. Get one big sponsor, and just roll tape.

I’ve been inspired!

I was going through the past couple weeks of post by The Kid and Mr. David and I found this one featuring those silly ‘Motivational Pictures’.

I went into the comments and found the one by Mr. “FreddyBoomBoom” that goes to a place where you can make your own posters. I’ve been feeling a little under the weather the past couple days, so I started playing around with that creation page and came up with these

Surely those are motivational.

Mr. “FreddieBoomBoom”, if you could please leave a comment here, I may just have a thank you gift. Also, you wouldn’t in any way be related to the BoomBooms of Costa Rico? Specifically, the sisters Julia and Jesephina?

This stinks

Being one who works in the trash industry, I know my odors.

This one is ripe, and not just because it comes from the left wing “news” site, Democracy Now

Iraqi Peace Activist Forced to Change T-Shirt Bearing Arabic Script Before Boarding Plane at JFK

Raed Jarrar: I made it back to the United States in a very easy way. In fact, the incident that happened in JFK was not related to my trip, because I went back to D.C. I spent a day in D.C. Then I took the bus to New York. I spent a couple of days in New York. There was an event there. Then I was supposed to take my airplane, my Jet Blue airplane from JFK to Oakland in California last Saturday. So I went to the airport in the morning, and I was prevented to go to my airplane by four officers, because I was wearing this t-shirt that says “We will not be silent” in both Arabic and English. And I was told by one of the officials that wearing a t-shirt with Arabic script in an airport now is like going to a bank with a t-shirt that reads, “I am a robber.”

(snip)

I was questioned by four officials from — I think some of them were from Jet Blue and others were maybe policemen or FBI. I have no idea. I took their names and badge numbers, and I filed a complaint through ACLU against them, because I asked them very directly to let me go to the airplane, because it’s my constitutional right as a U.S. taxpayer and resident to wear a t-shirt with Arabic script. And they prevented to let me exercise this right, and they made me cover the script with another t-shirt.

First off, while he does, as an American, have the right to wear anything he wants in public (open carry of pistols not included), but he has absolutely no right to ride on private transportation, especially one so heavily regulated as an aircraft. Maybe he missed that day in Civics class?

Almost literally, if the provider/carrier decides they don’t like the way you parted your hair that morning, you’re grounded until you make them happy.

Secondly, I have absolutely no fear in calling him a liar after reading that he “filed a complaint with the ACLU”. When you file a complaint, even if it is with a group as slapstick as the ACLU, you need names and who they work for to put into the complaint. This interview took place very shortly after the supposed incident, so he should at least be able to tell us whether the badge number he collected were local PD or a Fibbie.

But alas, all we get is “I think some of them were from Jet Blue and others were maybe policemen or FBI. I have no idea.”

This fairytale of woe is getting a little traction among leftists, especially the ones who “Questioned the Timing” of the UK plot bust. Having read what this chucklehead said in this DN radio interview, I have no belief that anything he has written on his own site is any more truthful.

Because they’re Pro-Choice

No, this isn’t about the approval of “Plan B” (though I think the pharmacists with ethics objections helped screw that pooch for the Anti’s), this is a follow-up to my post about the homophobes in the Alabama Democratic Party from Wednesday.

For those who missed it (tsk tsk), the state Dem Party Chairman was actively funding the suit to kick the woman who won the Primary, who happens to be a lesbian, off the ballot and replace her with his chosen candidate.

Yesterday afternoon, he both succeeded and failed. Not only was the winner of the primary kicked off the ballot, but the Dem Party committee also kicked the loser of the Primary out of the running.

A Democratic Party committee has disqualified an openly gay candidate for the Alabama Legislature and the woman she defeated in the primary runoff.

Committee members ruled tonight that both women violated a party rule that party officials say no other candidate has obeyed since 1988.

The committee voted 5-0 to disqualify Patricia Todd and Gaynell Hendricks. Todd was attempting to become the state’s first openly gay legislator.

Committee chair Amy Burks said earlier today the party’s executive committee would make the final decision and select a nominee for the seat from Birmingham’s House District 54 at a meeting in Montgomery Saturday.

State Democratic Party Chairman Joe Turnham was “very surprised” by the decision, said Zac McCrary, a party spokesman. Turnham believes the party’s executive committee might change the decision based on an “archaic bylaw,” McCrary says.

Attorney Bobby Segall told the committee earlier today that if the party disqualified Todd for not filing a financial disclosure form with the party chairman it would also have to disqualify the party’s nominee for governor, Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley.

Todd defeated Hendricks by 59 votes in the July 18 runoff election in Birmingham’s District 54. There is no Republican opposition in the race and the Democratic candidate will likely be the district’s next House member.

Did you catch that last line? That is why this is so important to them. They don’t want the public to have a choice in the matter, they just want their ideologue in DC.

Panic Mode, Anyone?

One of my newest stops in my slogroll of local leftist blogs is Pacific Views, who seem to be working on their Chicken Little maneuvers with this spat over Joe Lieberman’s corroboration with east coast Repubs.

Joe Lieberman is now campaigning with Republicans. He’s using a Republican pollster.

If you’re here in Washington, please call Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and ask them to petition Minority Leader Harry Reid to strip Lieberman of his committee assignments and caucus privileges. If you’re in another state, find your Senators here.

And as a siren call of desperation, little Miss Natasha has this to say

Come to think of it, look up your House representative, too. Lieberman’s campaigning with Republican House candidates and actively threatening the ability of Democrats to regain control of the House.

(emphasis mine)

Holy Toledo! Not bi-partisan campaigning! Why, that might lead to cooperation! Which sometimes leads to solutions and, gasp, getting things done.

It is almost like they’re afraid ‘ol Joe will catch Republicooties and carry them back to the DCCC.

Off His Hinges

Even though it was predictable, the upset in the Alaskan Governor’s race, with Sarah Palin besting the current Governor by over 30 percentage points, made natioanl news.

In fact one local blogger, Goldy from RonSimsAss.Org, decided it deserved its own post of exasperation, asking “So… um… where are all the headlines about crazed, right-wing extremists taking over the Republican Party?”

Goldy, while of apparent intelligence to know the answers to his questions, desperately needs someone to take a moment to list the reasons,  probably as much as he needs a compliment from King County Executive, Ron Sims, to sooth is achey-breaky heart.

I’ll volunteer fr this duty:

1. Murkowski was not on an even keel with his constituents. In the article that Goldie links to, it lists that he used state funds to purchase a “state jet” after the feds denied him the money and his Legislature told him he was not allowed to do so. He also made an executive appointment to his US Senate seat that he shouldn’t have. Putting your daughter into your old job is just bad for business.

2. Palin is a Bush supporter and proud of it. She campaigned hard and smart. Palin didn’t just put herself out there as “Not Murkowski” (as did Lamont). She also isn’t “Gone Missing Ugly”. I’m sure that helped at least a bit.

Goldy will probably try and play the “I was joking” card, and that is all right with me, his most common excuse when he says something stupid. But it is stupid items like this that makes the rest of his positions, including and especially his intense man-love for Ron Sims, seem ludicrous.
