Even though it was predictable, the upset in the Alaskan Governor’s race, with Sarah Palin besting the current Governor by over 30 percentage points, made natioanl news.
In fact one local blogger, Goldy from RonSimsAss.Org, decided it deserved its own post of exasperation, asking “So… um… where are all the headlines about crazed, right-wing extremists taking over the Republican Party?”
Goldy, while of apparent intelligence to know the answers to his questions, desperately needs someone to take a moment to list the reasons, probably as much as he needs a compliment from King County Executive, Ron Sims, to sooth is achey-breaky heart.
I’ll volunteer fr this duty:
1. Murkowski was not on an even keel with his constituents. In the article that Goldie links to, it lists that he used state funds to purchase a “state jet” after the feds denied him the money and his Legislature told him he was not allowed to do so. He also made an executive appointment to his US Senate seat that he shouldn’t have. Putting your daughter into your old job is just bad for business.
2. Palin is a Bush supporter and proud of it. She campaigned hard and smart. Palin didn’t just put herself out there as “Not Murkowski” (as did Lamont). She also isn’t “Gone Missing Ugly”. I’m sure that helped at least a bit.
Goldy will probably try and play the “I was joking” card, and that is all right with me, his most common excuse when he says something stupid. But it is stupid items like this that makes the rest of his positions, including and especially his intense man-love for Ron Sims, seem ludicrous.
I know nothing about Sarah Palin’s candidacy or issues, but if I lived in AK I’d vote for her strictly based on looks.
As for Goldy, may I have permission to give a military reply that designates Goldy?

Fabulous Frank lost -soundly spanked- IMO for a variety of reasons: the “contract” for the natural gas pipeline, cavorting with ooil executive, the jet purchase, eliminating the longevity bonus (if you are older and have lived here a long while, you get a cookie); is appointment of his daughter to fill his senate seat has left a bad taste in the mouth of many Alaskans. BP shutting down half of Prudhoe bay didn’t help much either.
Sarah ran a comparatively clean campaign with very few gaffs. Clearly she was “in touch” with the voters sense of “throw-the-bum(s). She is popular in the Mat-Su valley and Valley Trash sticks together!
Again, my humble opinion, I think that the official Palin picture is a little dated. Not that she is Gone Missing Ugly but…
