Head firmly locked between his ass cheeks

Always one to see the idiot’s side of the argument, TBogg ignores all reports to the contrary about the vehicular homicides committed in Frisco by Omeed Aziz Popal a couple days back and says the following:

Now if Aziz Popal’s name had been, oh, Bozell or Hewitt, they would just being laughing it off as more wacky antics by those drugged-up California weirdos in that crazy liberal town and thank G-d I live in Septictank, Arkansas where all we do is keep kidnapped hitchhikers in makeshift dungeons underneath the doublewide and meet for Bible study every Tuesday after COPS!. But Popal has one of those names and this surely means that todays incident must be a Very Honda Pilot Kristallnacht.

Someone once said the evangelicals think more about gay sex than gays. I’m beginning to wonder if the entire rightwing is going to convert to Judaism, like Jerry Seinfeld’s dentist who converts for the jokes.

It seems like they need another venue for their outrage.

I think I’ll leave this one just as is. I can’t make him sound any more ignorant or hatefull.

She’s got some kind of Cooties

That is the only reason Charlize Theron, the woman who can wreck anything, even the perfection that is Aeon Flux, I would even want her to be interested in doing this.

Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron is set to star in her boyfriend Stuart Townsend’s directorial debut Battle in Seattle.

Her boyfriend has gulped down a couple full bottles of the Kool-Aid and thinks that the 1999 WTO looting rampage/protest is cinematic material. $20 says he takes the side of the looters.

I found this at the local Sound Politics blog, where it was mentioned that then King County Sherriff, now Republican Congressman Dave Reichert, challenged then Mayor Paul Schell’s pathetic response to the pillaging and the lack of support he gave his city police department.

What they didn’t mention was that now Republican Congressman Dave Reichert was not in his comfy office taking reports from underlings who wanted to keep him happy, he was on the ground, in uniform (with no riot gear on) chasing down looters in cowboy boots.

The man has the big brass ones, which was why I was sad to see him leave the Sheriff’s Deptarment. I’ve got a few stories about the man that you couldn’t pull out of him because he is just that modest.

The Dumbest Thing I’ve Read All Day: 08/30

Why can’t being this stupid be at least a little bit painful?

Joe Huffman finds a Los Angeles Times opinion columnist, Mark Kurlansky, who has just about had it with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and promotes the idea of just scraping them altogether and writing up something new.

Let’s stop fussing about what America’s founders thought, and let our minds run free.

Someone has to say it or we are never going to get out of this rut: I am sick and tired of the founding fathers and all their intents.

The real American question of our times is how our country in a little over 200 years sank from the great hope to the most backward democracy in the West. The U.S. offers the worst healthcare program, one of the worst public school systems and the worst benefits for workers. The margin between rich and poor has been growing precipitously while it has been decreasing in Europe. Among the great democracies, we use military might less cautiously, show less respect for international law and are the stumbling block in international environmental cooperation. Few informed people look to the United States anymore for progressive ideas.

We ought to do something. Instead, we keep worrying about the vision of a bunch of sexist, slave-owning 18th century white men in wigs and breeches. Even in the 18th century, the founding fathers were not the most enlightened thinkers available. They were the ones whose ideas prevailed.

Kurlansky goes on to use quotes from historical figures to say that they agree with his premise that “To be honest, the U.S. was never as good as it was supposed to be.”

In a strange twist in his line of thought, Kurlansky even quotes Thomas Jefferson, one of the Founding Fathers whose opinions we’re not supposed to care about:

“I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”

Silly me, I always thought that that was the purpose of being able to amend the Constitution. Apparently, Mr. Kurlansky believes that it means we are to toss out the whole of the Constitution every few decades.

I went and Googled the quote, because lately there have been some rather shifty types claiming Jefferson said a lot of things. Guess who is at the top of the Google search results for this quote?

No, not the US Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC, where Mr. Kurlansky is correct about the quote being carved on the wall.

No, not the National Park at Monticello either.

It is none other than The Peace Alliance. Also known as The Campaign to Establish a US Department of Peace

How quaint.

Dershowitz Dishes

Dishes Amnesty International a big plate of skunk pie, that is. And at the secondary capital of liberal loonieness, HuffPo, even.

The two principal “human rights” organizations are in a race to the bottom to see which group can demonize Israel with the most absurd legal arguments and most blatant factual misstatements. Until last week, Human Rights Watch enjoyed a prodigious lead, having “found” – contrary to what every newspaper in the world had reported and what everyone saw with their own eyes on television – “no cases in which Hezbollah deliberately used civilians as shields to protect them from retaliatory IDF attack.”

Those of us familiar with Amnesty International’s nefarious anti-Israel agenda and notoriously “suggestible” investigative methodology wondered how it could possibly match such a breathtaking lie.

But we didn’t have to wait long for AI to announce that Israel was guilty of a slew of war crimes for “widespread attacks against public civilian infrastructure, including power plants, bridges, main roads, seaports, and Beirut’s international airport.”

(snip)

Amnesty’s evidence that Israel’s attacks on infrastructure constitute war crimes comes from its own idiosyncratic interpretation of the already-vague word “disproportionate.” Unfortunately for Amnesty, no other country in any sort of armed conflict has ever adopted such a narrow definition of the term. Indeed, among the very first military objectives of most modern wars is precisely what Israel did: to disable portions of the opponent’s electrical grid and communication network, to destroy bridges and roads, and to do whatever else is necessary to interfere with those parts of the civilian infrastructure that supports the military capability of the enemy. That’s how the America and Britain militaries fought World War II. (In fact, Israel shows far more restraint than Britain did during World War II. Prime Minister Churchill directed the Royal Air Force to bomb the center of towns with the express purpose of killing as many civilians as possible.) Had the Allies been required to fight World War II under the rules of engagement selectively applied to Amnesty International to Israel, our “greatest generation” might have lost that war.

I’m not always supportive of Mr. Dershowitz’s points, but with this one, as the saying goes Read.It.All.

If you wander into the comments section, you’ll find, among other things, a smattering of people accusing Dershowitz of being paid by the pro-Israel lobby for writing such things. It’s rather disgusting to see the hate come out like that, for the sole reason that he is correct.

Very shortly after Mr. Dershowitz’s post at the HuffPo, the co-founder of Air America Radio, Sheldon Drobney, posts a reply to it. I’d call it a rebuttal, but the guy never actually covers the subject. He really only tries to impress everyone with his knowledge of WWII history and somehow ends up talking about nuclear proliferation.

I wasn’t impressed with his knowledge and with this one, as the saying goes, read at your own peril.

It is in the comments section of Drobney’s post where the magic truly happens.

If you call rabid anti-Semitism “magic”.

The Second Dumbest Thing I’ve Read All Day: 08/30

Jordan Barab over at the FireDogLake blog makes an analogy that I’m sure gets the lefties all riled up, but sounds ignorant to anyone in the actual living world.

To do this, he excerpts a scene from the film ‘Grand Canyon’ where Danny Glover plays a tow truck driver being acosted by gangbangers as he is trying to hook up a car.

Simon: Man, the world ain’t supposed to work like this. I mean, maybe you don’t know that yet. I’m supposed to be able to do my job without having to ask you if I can. That dude is supposed to be able to wait with his car without you ripping him off. Everything is supposed to be different than it is.

Gangbanger: So what’s your answer?

Simon: You ain’t got the gun, we ain’t having this conversation.

Gangbanger: That’s what I thought, no gun, no respect. That’s why I always got the gun.

Barab adds:

Now, suppose Simon is the employer and the Gangbanger is the employee, and then replace the word “gun” with the word “union.”

Yes, that is what I, as an employee, would like to be compared to: Someone too stupid or lazy to get a job, so they have to get a gun to make their way.

I know this weenie likes to hang around ‘Jolly’ Jane Hamsher (she of the ‘blackface is poignant’ crowd), but is her ignorance contagious or something?

Maybe I’ll just have to run this past the Teamster Shop Stewards and see how they enjoy the comparison.

Attacking Sybmols

Instead of any real problem.

Kevin Drum rationalizes being anti-WalMart

Sebastian Mallaby has a column in the Washington Post today that’s so relentlessly misguided that I just don’t have the energy to take it on. But I do want to say one thing about it, because it fits into the “irate moderate” theme that I was talking about a few days ago.

The column is about Wal-Mart, and Mallaby is complaining that although moderate Dems got out of the corporation-bashing business in the late 80s, they’ve since lost the religion. Every single moderate Dem — even Joe Lieberman! — is now bashing Wal-Mart. “How can supposedly centrist Democrats defend this betrayal of their principles?” he asks sadly.

Well, here’s the thing. When every single moderate Dem starts attacking Wal-Mart, maybe nobody’s betraying any principles at all. Instead, maybe they’ve figured out something that Mallaby hasn’t: it’s not the 80s anymore and things have changed. And one of the things that’s changed is that Wal-Mart has gotten a lot bigger, unions have continued shrinking, working class wages have stagnated, and corporate power has grown tremendously. It’s perfectly rational for even moderate, pro-business Dems to look at the record of the past couple of decades and conclude that things have gotten pretty far out of whack and that Wal-Mart is a good symbol of this imbalance.

Do guys like Drum realize that when everyone gets more money, seeing as how there isn’t a set amount of money in the world, that money slowly becomes worth less. One of the nice things about this surge in the economy, thank you Mr. Greenspan, is that inflation was kept in check and stayed low, with wages keeping pace.

Yes, gas prices have gone up, causing a slight raise in the price of goods because they need to be transported from the factory/field to the market, but the uptick in prices wasn’t caused by a surge in inflation, like in the 70’s.

All the Dems are doing is attacking a successful corporation because, to their socialist constituents, it represents all that is wrong with America: Eevviill Corporations. Never mind that a large number of the Dems, if not a majority, profit from their ownership of WalMart stock.

Drum postscripts to say that he himself doesn’t consider WalMart or the business community as “Evil” per se, but because WalMart only helps the lower and middle classes on the retail end (ie: low cost of goods) and not on the inside (ie: union style wages), they could become “Evil” at any possible moment.

This is the same bullshit argument the left uses against the oil companies when the whine, bitch and moan meme about ‘record profits’ comes out for the umpteenth time.

Never mind that the numbers they are using are profits from worldwide sales (they never, ever mention that part), and never mind that money the oil companies make selling petroleum products to Americans in miniscule to what they make selling them to other nations (another point mysteriously forgotten when the meme goes boom). The left sell the big lie because the two smaller lies are too difficult to get out in one sentence for their minions to continuously regurgitate.

They want to get rid of the tax incentives given to energy companies, never remembering that because all costs are passed onto the consumer, corporations don’t pay a single cent in taxes.

These facts are so simple, yet studies have shown that impact therapy won’t get them through the numb bonestructures surrounding liberals and ‘progressives’ brains.

Because they’re afraid of “The Propaganda”

The Northwest Progressive Institute, the group who gave us ‘Permanent Defense’ to collect information on and harrass people gathering signatures for conservative issues in Washington State, has finished updating their Pacific NW News Portal.

And finally, we’ve also upgraded our filtering technology to ensure that right wing websites continue to be filtered out of our traditional media news wires.

Which of course is their right, but just how weak can your beliefs be if a story coming from FOX bothers you?

Nosiree, this guy’s not a terrorist, not at all.

Jihad Watch notes that today’s “madman” driver — who killed at least one in Fremont and injured 15 more in San Francisco, apparently by deliberately running into and over random pedestrians —

a) is an young male Afghani named Omeed Aziz Popal, who recently returned from Afghanistan;

b) IDENTIFIED HIMSELF AS A TERRORIST TO POLICE WHEN THEY APPREHENDED HIM.

See the end of this video from KTVU, one of the most respected of Bay Area news orgs (and no, it’s not the least bit conservative even though it’s a Fox affiliate).

Of course, you don’t see a hint of this in the lefty SF Chronicle’s account linked above, nor in the wire service reports. No, as Bookworm notes in her excellent post on the subject, the MSM line now is that this guy was “distraught.”

I don’t care if the guy’s distraught over leaving his bride-to-be in SW Asia. This was deliberate murder, not the work of a “madman.” The asshole didn’t just mow down victims on the sidewalks, he even STOPPED AT CROSSWALKS AND WAITED FOR PEOPLE TO WALK IN FRONT OF HIM BEFORE RUNNING THEM OVER.

Of course Dear Mayor Gavin Newsom was there with this bit of wisdom, soon to become the conventional wisdom:

“These are the things, these are so senseless. They’re utterly inexplicable. They’re impossible to rationalize.”

Yeah, right. Even when the reason’s staring you right in the face. I think a lot of Bay Area PC liberals just got a little dose of reality thrown into their world today, no matter what Dear Mayor says.

I almost forgot to tell you about

Me getting called a ‘Faggot’ this weekend. Normally, I would just laugh this off, but there were circumstances I wish to fill you in on.

I’m getting back from my failed attempt to go to the Church of the Holy High-Speed Projectile on Sunday. I’m driving around in Grimm, because I find scaring the locals to be fun, and I pull into the local gas station to fill ‘er up.

As I roll alongside the forward most pump and turn off the rumble, I hear someone yelling. It’s coming from my left side and it’s definitely a dude, but even from the height-advantaged viewpoint of Grimm’s cab, I can’t see anyone.

Then, as I reach over to grab my wallet from the glovebox, I see that there is a woman, early 20’s from the looks of her, sitting in the driver’s seat of a tan/beige compact car. Next to her, in the passenger seat of the car, I can see a pair of legs belonging to a dude.

I drop down to the pavement and walk down the side of the bed to the gas cap and look across. Yep, it is the dude in the beige car who is yelling. I hear him say “and if you buy (unintelligible), I’ll fuckin’ smash you in the face with a bottle”. The woman gets out and I see that her face is swollen with the sort of pink blotchiness one gets from having cried for a good, long time.

Due gets out and starts pumping the gas. He’s staring directly at the pump, as though it was going to cheat him or something. She comes back out of the store and gets into the front seat of the car.

I’m seeing red, as you can well imagine, and I really want this bastard to turn around. I have no idea what started the argument I walked in on; maybe she lost the paycheck at the casino or maybe this guy just has a thumb-dick.

I don’t know.

But I do know you do go doing this crap in public.

Dude dosn’t turn around until he soon finishes with the gas pump and gets back into the car. I have set the locking lever on the pump handle and begun washing the windshield by now, still mentally fixated on this situation.

As I’m squeegeeing the drivers side of the windshield, I hear the car start up and see dude yell something else unintelligible at her and she shakes her head. I walk over to do the passenger side of the windshield and as I cross between the headlights the car rolls away.

I look at the car, dude looks at me and yells “Fuck you, faggot”.

I’m not easily shocked, but this came pretty close to doing it. I had a paper towel in one hand and the squeegee in the other, so I couldn’t even get a one-finger salute off and my complimentary return “fuck you, asshole” apparently came too late for him to hear because I got no reply from it.

Now, he committed no act of violence in my presence, and even if he had, past good samaritans in Washington State have faced legal penalties for interjecting themselves into domestic situations (not that that knowledge would have necessarily stopped me from interceeding had he done something).

About the only thing he is guilty of was being an asshole in public which, unfortunately, is neither a crime nor painful.

Again, I have no clue as to what the situation was before I rolled up next to it, but I do know I truly wanted to stop pumping my gas and follow the prick, illegal as that is. The feeling I got from having watched heard just that little bit of the exchange, seeing the reprocussions of it, and not being able to shit about it, is really what pissed me off. If you try calling 911, they’ll tell you to mind your own business, and until he starts wailing on her, all you can do is watch.

I could have yelled something across the lane to him, but what? “Hey jackass, why don’t you knock it off and leave her alone?” Not very powerful stuff there. And again, I’d be interceeding in a situation I know nothing about.

Not that I run into this situation often or anything, and I’m not suggesting that you’ll do either; but does anyone have a similar tale and/or maybe a solution that doesn’t consist of either completely ignoring it or pouring gasoline on the prick and setting him alight?

What if

This wasn’t Mexico

Mexico’s top electoral court announced Monday that a partial recount will not change the outcome of the hotly disputed July 2 presidential election, which sparked a constitutional crisis and massive demonstrations that have shackled the capital for nearly two months.

The Federal Electoral Judicial Tribunal stopped short of officially declaring Felipe Calderón the winner over Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the populist former mayor of Mexico City. But few here expect the court to alter the final outcome of the race, especially after the court announced Monday that it had rejected nearly all of López Obrador’s fraud claims.

López Obrador, of the Democratic Revolutionary Party, had demanded a full recount and has said that he would not accept the results of the partial recount. He also has said he plans to declare himself the president of Mexico, regardless of the tribunal’s decision.

What if, instead of backhandedly accepting the SCOTUS decision in 200, Gore had declared himself President and attempted to reign as “The Popular Vote President”?

How many of today’s left-wing crowd do you think would have followed him? My guess is quite a decent number. They would have been subversive and abrasive at the same time, except this time, “for a cause”.

More importantly, how many members of Congress do you think would have followed Gore? Right off the bat, I think that probably not too many would, preferring to lie in wait until they saw some numbers.

But that would have been the beginning of America’s Second Civil War. Gore knew this and decided that he either didn’t want the office badly enough or that he didn’t have the guts to try it.

However, with this happening just next door, and the hard-left watching closely, I am of the opinion that if they don’t get their way this November and then again in 2008, they’re going to be very inclined to give it a shot.

Frankly, I don’t know whether to be sad that the nation devolved to sectarian violence or be happy that the thing every leftist has cried about since before I was born is finally happening so that I can stop hearing them talk about how badly they want a ‘revolution’.

Our good man Rivrdog has a post up about this as well. He also warns about travel in Mexico. Go take a read.
