The Second Dumbest Thing I’ve Read All Day: 08/30

Jordan Barab over at the FireDogLake blog makes an analogy that I’m sure gets the lefties all riled up, but sounds ignorant to anyone in the actual living world.

To do this, he excerpts a scene from the film ‘Grand Canyon’ where Danny Glover plays a tow truck driver being acosted by gangbangers as he is trying to hook up a car.

Simon: Man, the world ain’t supposed to work like this. I mean, maybe you don’t know that yet. I’m supposed to be able to do my job without having to ask you if I can. That dude is supposed to be able to wait with his car without you ripping him off. Everything is supposed to be different than it is.

Gangbanger: So what’s your answer?

Simon: You ain’t got the gun, we ain’t having this conversation.

Gangbanger: That’s what I thought, no gun, no respect. That’s why I always got the gun.

Barab adds:

Now, suppose Simon is the employer and the Gangbanger is the employee, and then replace the word “gun” with the word “union.”

Yes, that is what I, as an employee, would like to be compared to: Someone too stupid or lazy to get a job, so they have to get a gun to make their way.

I know this weenie likes to hang around ‘Jolly’ Jane Hamsher (she of the ‘blackface is poignant’ crowd), but is her ignorance contagious or something?

Maybe I’ll just have to run this past the Teamster Shop Stewards and see how they enjoy the comparison.

  1. Rivrdog says:

Unions are a matter of neccessity, at least in their origination, AK. Were it not for the abuses of employers, there would have never been a single union in this nation.

Some unions have persisted, with Leftist political help, beyond the point of usefulness to the point of economic sabotage. Those unions need to be pared back to the basics and severed from the political process.

That said, the desire of most conservatives to make it impossible for ANY union to exist is as over the top as it is for the politically-connected unions to throw their weight around outside their workplace.

One of the rules of sanity in all things has always been that two wrongs don’t make a right.

  2. Analog Kid says:

I’ll trade my being reasonable with their being reasonable.

They support ‘Right to Work’ / I’ll support their continued existence to rip people off.

Sadly, 99% of unions have lost theat ability to reason and wholeheartedly accepted the support of groups like ANSWER.

May those organizations that have, die on the vine like the bloodsuckers they are.
