Last night’s Dog and Pony Show

Also known as the YouTube Debate.

Watched it (up to the last 20 minutes) and wondered who was running the show, Anderson Cooper or Chuck Barris.

Anyway, liked the gun questions, though I liked the answers even more (because they were rather telling).

I agree with Uncle that Fred’s answer shows he knows firearms owners. He wouldn’t as me just as I wouldn’t ask him. I like that. Romney is a putz, and Giuliani is a hoplophobe.

I noticed that CNN couldn’t just plant a Hillary supporter at the Dem debates, they now feel they have to plant one at the Repub debate in order to stay consistent or something.

The morning leftoids on the radio are pissed that Healthcare and the “living wage” issues never came up. ThinkProgress is angry that 5000 people, including apparently Howard Dean and Chris Dodd, didn’t get to ask their question and Grover Norquist did. At least Norquist was identified and his affiliation noted, unlike the Hillary plant. I wonder if CNN would have to Google Dean and Dodd?

All in all, not bad. I just wish Thompson would get some fire in his belly and grab a headline. I’m tired of people asking “Who?” when I answer the “Who are you voting for?” question.

UPDATE: Well, well, well! It looks like CNN got down with their bad selves during the Repub debate.

And I mean “Bad” meaning “Bad” not “Bad” meaning “Good”.

Journey the “When abortion is illegal girl” is actually a stated supporter of John Edwards

“Log Cabin Republican” David Cercone is actually an Obama supporter.

Undecided Mom is a union rep and activist for John Edwards.

Gee Golly, Wally! Just how ignorant is CNN?

Beyond being an apologist

You simply need to read this post by Johnathon Pearce.

He was watching the BBC’s Newsnight program and, well, I simply can’t describe how sick to my stomach I felt after reading his post on the topic they were discussing (the teacher in Sudan who will be punished for letting a student name his teddy bear “Mohammad”) on the show.

The disposition of the Sudanese government representative is just, wow. Go read it. It is only three paragraphs.

The host, who, according to Pearce, is normally a rather outspoken interviewer, just kind of sat there taking it all in and letting the two guests go. I do wonder if, after the show, he came to the conclusion that the world, or at least the UK, had gone completely mad?

Now that is a heavy long distance charge

I get free long distance from my phone service provider.

This guy, not so lucky

150,000 witness North Korea factory boss whose crime was making international phone calls

A North Korean factory chief accused of making international phone calls was executed by a firing squad in a stadium before 150,000 spectators, a South Korean aid group reported.

Public executions had declined since 2000 amid international criticism but have been increasing, targeting officials accused of drug trafficking, embezzlement and other crimes, the Good Friends aid agency said in a report on the North’s human rights.

Can’t he just demand the guy call collect?

Say it ain’t so, Fred!

Saith the Hotline:

[Bill] Clinton, in DeWitt, said that he’s had “a lot of dealings” with Rudy Giuliani and that an HRC/Giuliani match-up would “certainly be an interesting pair,” reports NBC/NJ’s Carrie Dann.

The former president said that he knows Fred Thompson well and added, “I used to send him cigars.”

At least, Fred, tell us you didn’t put any of them in your mouth….

Rowrr! Hiss!

Kevin Drum doesn’t like his religion being mocked and so he puts his bitch hat on to try and flay aside suggestions that those who have economic ties to the success of the Global Warming Death Cult are not actually taking the actual “warming” portion seriously.

This is all about the UN Climate Change Summit in Bali and how Drum doesn’t like Glenn Reynolds mocking the attendees who, for some reason, each have to go in their own jet.

Now that is some funny shit. This is not.

But who cares? This is just an example of the current craze in global warming denialism: don’t literally deny that warming is happening (the actual facts make that too hard), merely mock every possible effort to fight it. International agreements? Obviously ridiculous. Federal regulation? Just an excuse for more anti-business spleen from the Birkenstock crowd. Carbon taxes? You’d like that, wouldn’t you? Government spending on amelioration? Forget it. We should spend the money on, um, clean drinking water for Chad instead. Yeah. Private efforts to inspire conservation? Just a bunch of hectoring, self-righteous Hollywood elites. Al Gore? He doesn’t live in a cave, so he’s a hypocrite.

He’s trying to be funny right there, but the flying spittle gives away his self-righteous indignation at having his idols intentions and motives questioned by a lesser human than himself and especially less than them.

Why he cannot see that it is yet another reason to go to Bali and lounge about while acting as theough they’re doing something, even though that they cannot take just one or two planes and instead have to each grab their own, like they all can’t just leave from NYC in a 747 and not, you know, put all that CO2 into the atmosphere.

But Kevin can’t see that because, well, I don’t know why. But his blindness is purposeful and may be because he’s figured out he’s being had (he’s not a dummy, just misguided).

Oh well. I hope that Glenn keeps getting under Kev’s skin. He’s bound to get funny one of these days.

Its about time

I went through one of these myself recently at work

A diversity training video has drawn a complaint from a Denver city employee who claims its unfavorable portrayal of whites amounts to “institutional racism.” A city official said Tuesday it was suspending use of the video.

The video titled, “Laughing Matters — Think About It,” features a white, blue-collar worker named Billy who’s portrayed as racist, sexist, and clueless while illustrating inappropriate humor.

“Diversity, to me, doesn’t mean hammer the white guy,” said Dennis Supple, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning mechanic who said he’s considering filing a lawsuit. “Diversity means you have respect for everyone, regardless of their race, their gender, their religion, their sexual orientation.”

Mine didn’t just feature white guys being the dummy, my company is smarter than that.

However, seeing as how it was “Mandatory” that I attend, I made sure to make the point, rather publicly and with much agreement from my fellow attendees, that I was having a hard time figuring out whether my employer thought I was corrupt or just too stupid to recognize corruption.
The HR drones holding the meeting was not able to tell me, so I stated that I assume it must be both, and thanked them for the hour of pay.

I don’t like to say I told them so

But I did. And so did just about anyone who has actually read Marx and understood it.

Venezuelans struggle to find food

The lines formed at dawn and remained long throughout the day _ hundreds upon hundreds of Venezuelans waiting to buy scarce milk, chicken and sugar at state-run outdoor markets staffed by soldiers in fatigues.

President Hugo Chavez’s government is trying to cope with shortages of some foods, and the lines at state-run “Megamercal” street markets show many Venezuelans are willing to wait for hours to snap up a handful of products they seldom find in supermarkets.

“You have to get in line and you have to be lucky,” said Maria Fernandez, a 64-year-old housewife who was trying to buy milk and chicken on Sunday.

The lines for basic foods at subsidized prices are paradoxical for an oil-rich nation that in many ways is a land of plenty. Shopping malls are bustling, new car sales are booming and privately owned supermarkets are stocked with American potato chips, French wines and Swiss Gruyere cheese.

Yet other foods covered by price controls _ eggs, chicken _ periodically are hard to find in supermarkets. Fresh milk has become a luxury, and even baby formula is scarcer nowadays.

And all of this is, as expected, not making the people stay “in love” with Senior Hugo

Poll says Chavez loses Venezuela referendum lead

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has lost his lead eight days before a referendum on ending his term limit, an independent pollster said on Saturday, in a swing in voter sentiment against the Cuba ally.

Forty-nine percent of likely voters oppose Chavez’s proposed raft of constitutional changes to expand his powers, compared with 39 percent in favor, a survey by respected pollster Datanalisis showed.

Just weeks ago, Chavez had a 10-point lead for his proposed changes in the OPEC nation that must be approved in a referendum, the polling company said.

Despite the swing, company head Luis Vicente Leon said he did not rule out a comeback by the popular president.

You can click that link, its from Reuters, who seem to be rooting for Chavez in the rest of the article.

Their enthusiasm is misplaced though, for Hugo knows how to get the people to vote for him.

Threats!

Chavez threatens opponents of reform

The Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, today threatened to strip the country’s industrialists of their assets if they continued to oppose his indefinite presidency.

Chávez faces a vote at the weekend on his proposals to change 69 articles of the constitution, including scrapping the limit on the number of terms a president can serve.

Venezuela’s largest business chamber, Fedecámaras, to which thousands of large and small businesses belong, has called the planned reforms an “illegal act”, and called on voters to oppose their passage “by every possible legal means”.

That last link is from al-Guardian, who uses all the semantics they can gather to not actually call Hugo a dictator.

They save that word for Bush.

It pained him

Oliver Willis (Occupation: Toole) was “pained” by the revelation that Bill Clinton is a congenital liar, when Clinton tried to get everyone to believe him that he didn’t support going into Iraq.

Unfortunately for Slick Willy, we have his words from 2003

I supported the President when he asked the Congress for authority to stand up against weapons of mass destruction in Iraq,

I laughed my backside off when I read the headline of Clinton saying he didn’t support taking Saddam out, then I went to Oliver’s place and laughed some more.

But I had to pick myself off the floor when I went to the Huff-a-ton Post to find an argument between the Clinton supporters and the Obama supporters in the comments here.

Keep them fighting amongst themselves. That is how I like it.

RNS Quote of the Day: 11/27/07

For those who didn’t bother to read the Dale Amon post after I grabbed the Heinlein quote from it yesterday, maybe this will help you follow the linkage.

People who whinge and cry into cameras for The State to ‘protect them’ are simply weak and contemptible. One expects that from dependent children: not from free adults. An adult stares coolly at the distant watching enemy and shows them that killing a few thousand of us will accomplish nothing except get us pissed off and the enemy and his next of kin and entire way of life very dead.

The Days of Our Plates

Rob at the Say Anything blog thinks the owner of this SUV likes watching Liberal heads explode.

I tend to agree, though I’d hate to be that guy’s insurer.

Speaking of license plates, my selection from the “Personalized License Plate Idea Farming” we did last month were approved and are installed.

Sorry, no pics of that. RNS State Secret.

While I am a happily married man, it is a nice thing to return the smile and wave to the little cute thing in the Toyota Matrix with the Ron Paul sticker in the back window who read your bumper stickers and then stared quizzically at your plate at the light when she passes you to get on the freeway on your way home from the work-out place.

I’m sure she’ll google it sooner or later.
