Get out the popcorn, folks, this one’s going to be fun.

Yeah, that’s the ticket

From a comment on Tam’s post:

As your attorney, I advise you to prepare for the 2008 election season by starting to drink now, and heavily.

Or at least load up your shotgun with #7 to take care of those bats!

For the unenlightened (can’t imagine that’s anybody reading this blog): see here.

Happy B-Day

To The Mom

The big Six-Oh has arrived and I’m off to get stuff for her big day.

While I’m doing that, you can take a looksee at what Senator Joe Lieberman has on his plate in the Senate Homeland Security Committee

Why, its Senate Bill 1959 (aka HB 1955)

The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism and Prevention Act

Sounds just like a big, tough piece of legislation should, doesn’t it?

Yeah, well, its a “Piece” of something all right. Why don’t you take the day (or the weekend) and read through this sumbitch. Then imagine, scary a thought as it may be, that HRC or Edwards (or Giuliani) gets elected.

Try this snippet out….

899A. DEFINITIONS.

“For purposes of this subtitle:

“(1) Commission.—The term ‘Commission’ means the National Commission on the Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism established under section 899C.

“(2) Violent radicalization.—

“The term ‘violent radicalization’ means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.

“(3) Homegrown terrorism.—

“The term ‘homegrown terrorism’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

“(4) Ideologically based violence.—

“The term ‘ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs.

Sounds like an excuse to round up GOA members to me. I know my words of distrust of the government constitute an “extremist social belief” to folks on the other side of the aisle and that this blog is the tool of my dissemination of those beliefs to you all.

I even seriously doubt that that any threat would have to be issued. All it would take is a skilled DA with an agenda to say that the threats they “perceived” were “implied”, but that they still constituted “threats”. Especially when you get to this

899B. FINDINGS.

(3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.

And

(9) Certain governments, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have significant experience with homegrown terrorism and the United States can benefit from lessons learned by those nations.

We’re living in the last, best place on the planet. I don’t want to lose it.

This has to be stopped.

It’s About Time Helen Thomas Got Bitch-Slapped

afpdanaperino.jpg

Yeah, Dana Perino (above) deserves a raise. From NRO’s The Corner:

Q Why should we depend on him?

MS. PERINO: Because he is the commander on the ground, Helen. He’s the one who is making sure that the situation is moving —

Q You mean how many more people we kill?

MS. PERINO: Helen, I find it really unfortunate that you use your front row position, bestowed upon you by your colleagues, to make such statements. This is a — it is an honor and a privilege to be in the briefing room, and to suggest that we, at the United States, are killing innocent people is just absurd and very offensive.

RTWT. Jeez, I didn’t realize Helen Thomas was 87 years old! I’ll bet she’s hanging on in the hopes she can cover what she’s hoping will be the first female President.
I’ve been remiss in mentioning that I LOVE Dana Perino as White House Press Secretary. Tony Snow was just masterful and awesome to watch as he kicked the press corps around, but Ms. P, after a rough start, has actually been just as good, and adds that drool factor that you just didn’t get from Mr. S.

And so it was told

That if John Edwards gets elected and his socialized medicine program becomes law, verily, you WILL pay.

Or you will be smote by the IRS and their Customer Service Shotguns.

Under the Edwards plan, when Americans file their income taxes, they would be required to submit a letter from an insurance provider confirming coverage for themselves and their dependents.

If someone did not submit proof of coverage, the Internal Revenue Service would notify a newly established regional or state-based health-care agency (which Edwards has dubbed a Health Care Market).

Those regional agencies would then evaluate whether the uninsured individual was eligible for Medicare (which covers those over 65), Medicaid (which covers the indigent), or S-CHIP (the State Children’s Health Insurance Program which targets the working poor).

If the individual was not eligible for either of those existing public programs, the regional-health care agency would enroll the individual into the lowest cost health-care plan available in that area. The lowest-cost option could be a new Medicare-like public option or a private insurance plan.

The newly covered individual would not only have access to health benefits but would also be responsible for making monthly payments with the help of a tax credit.

The exact size of the financial obligation would vary according to a person’s income (lower-income Americans would receive larger tax credits).

If a person did not meet his or her monthly financial obligation for a set period of time (perhaps a year, perhaps longer) the Edwards plan would empower the federal government to garnish an individual’s wages for purposes of collecting “back premiums with interest and collection costs.”

The process, according to the Edwards campaign, would resemble the process used to collect money from Americans who are delinquent on federal student loans or child support payments.

A new class of American: The Deadbeat Healthy Person

Now you know and I know that there are people just creaming in their jeans for this. I’m not the most adept political analyst, but I expect Edwards’ numbers to go up a significant amount in the coming weeks as his very specific plan is revealed.

I’m not Canadian

But I’m helping to destroy the planet too!

Scientists have found a new threat to the planet: Canadian beer drinkers.

The government-commissioned study says the old, inefficient “beer fridges” that one in three Canadian households use to store their Molson and Labatt’s contribute significantly to global warming by guzzling gas- and coal-fired electricity.

“People need to understand the impact of their lifestyles,” British environmental consultant Joanna Yarrow tells New Scientist magazine. “Clearly the environmental implications of having a frivolous luxury like a beer fridge are not hitting home. This research helps inform people — let’s hope it has an effect.”

I bought my “garage fridge” from a neighbor of The Mom who was moving for a pair of Twenties. I dont’ know how old it is, though I would guess mid-80s. Its a Kenmore so it’ll prolly outlive me, and boy does it keep the beer cold.

In fact, I just got off work. Might have to fire up my Gaia-murdering grill and let some cold air out the fridge for a minute after I’m done warming those Angus patties.

In the mean time, why don’t you click on up the latest Global Warming Death Cult horror story via Reuters
Climate Change may cost Florida $345 Billion a year: study

Btw, the projected losses are for the year 2100.

They’re “guessing” a dollar figure 93 years in advance.

On this day in 1910, the first patent for a fucking traffic light was issued to Earnest Sirrine.

No, the Global Warming folks aren’t desperate to scare people.

OK, yes they are. In fact, click this link and go read the list of 600-Plus things the Global Warming Death Cult and their member have attributed to “Climate Change”.

Or maybe you’d rather check out how the US National Hurricane Center has been naming storms which, in the past, most likely wouldn’t have qualified for a name.
I guess when you predict catastrophic damage due to “Climate Change” and it doesn’t materialize, you at least have to get your numbers up.

Oh wait, i was gonna go grab a beer. Later.

Like building with big steel Legos (TM)

Earlier I posted some links to housing projects based on shipping containers.

Well, I guess somebody’s actually made a business turning them into insulated, pre-fabricated steel “blocks” you can stack to form the skeleton of what otherwise looks like a regular residential house.

There’s a Bob Vila video, too.

The Soundboard: The Group Dynamic

And now we venture from Sitars back to guitars.

Most of y’all will remember my review post of the Dethklok Dethalbum last week when I spoke of the suckitude of today’s rock world; well I was serious about that, and now let me expand on that thought.

Today’s rock world sucks so hard that Van Halen, the original line up, would never get a record deal. Maybe, possibly, if they had Hagar in the lead, but definitely not with Diamond Dave. We could have had no major guitar masters since Clapton/Page/Beck and still Eddie Van Halen’s antics would be ignored. Hell, even with the infamous Oasis brother’s tantrums and the press attention it brought, the A&R guys still wouldn’t pay attention to Ed and Alex.

I honestly believe that this is because of the balls out forwardness about women and partying. These guy simply would not be PC enough for radio today. The only way the band would even turn a head would be if Eddie wrote an acoustic tune about how he was comforting his girlfriend because someone hurt her feelings that day at her job. And it would have to have a piano solo.

That is how bad today’s rock world is teh suck.

1984 came out the year before I started Junior High School, and my classmates were just discovering it the following year when we all got our lockers. Not me, I was only three years late in finding Van Halen I. I still remember the discussions The Mom and I would have about Van Halen’s cover of The Kinks and later Roy Orbison. Definitely not her faves.

But she has not to worry about that today. I don’t post album filler.

Enjoy

From Van Halen I

Atomic Punk

And from 1984, some tunage that was a bit of an experiment for the boys

Girl Gone Bad

Too bad they couldn’t keep it together. If this was the direction they were going, the 80’s might not have sucked so horribly and glam metal might have died its appropriate death early.
