I should have known

That HRC’s people are thinking of using the mental midget who held up the NH Clinton campaign office with road flares strapped to his chest last week as proof that America needs socialized medicine.

I, for one, question the timing. (snicker)

Secondly, outside of the Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner cartoons, has anybody ever seen actual red dynamite sticks?

Every stick I’ve ever seen was wrapped either green or brown.

Time to pay the piper

Said “Piper” being House Minority Leader John Boehner. The “payer” being “Baghdad” Jim McDermott

Finally.

The long legal fight between two members of Congress over an illegally taped telephone call ended Monday when the Supreme Court refused to review the case.

The court left in place a federal appeals court ruling that Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., should not have given reporters access to the tape-recorded telephone call of Republican leaders discussing the House ethics case against former House Speaker Newt Gingritch, R-Ga, in December 1996.

McDermott asked the justices to hear his appeal of the May ruling, which he said infringed on his free speech rights. The court did not comment on its action.

The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, in a 5-4 decision, said McDermott’s offense was especially egregious since he was a senior member of the House ethics committee at the time.

The ruling upheld a previous decision ordering McDermott to pay House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, more than $700,000 for leaking the taped conversation. The figure includes $60,000 in damages and more than $600,000 in legal costs.

Game Over. No more excuses for not paying up.

Not even his Knighthood from King Letsie III of Lesotho can get him out of this.

Also, how this is a Free Speech issue for Jimbo, I am at a loss to discover. I’ve seen the local leftists attempt to bend reality and say that his releasing of the illegal recordings should be considered “speech”, but I’ve come to the conclusion that anyone who believes that has opened their mind so much that their brains have fallen out.

Oh, and btw, the supporters of McDermutt say that the only reason Jim has to pay is because the courts are “stacked with Republican appointees”.

Blind as a Bat

Moonbat Naomi Klein posted up a new screed at The Huff-A-Ton Post (where the Castro-loving Danny Glover has a video up on the sidebar claiming Bush is Destroying the Constitution!).

The subject of her post is the fact that, according to Goldman Sachs, the venture capital markets are stronger in the Security sector than they are in the Green Energy sector. This is apparently completely mystifying to her.

Anyone tired of lousy news from the markets should talk to Douglas Lloyd, director of Venture Business Research, a company that tracks trends in venture capitalism. “I expect investment activity in this sector to remain buoyant,” he said recently. His bouncy mood was inspired by the money gushing into private security and defense companies. He added, “I also see this as a more attractive sector, as many do, than clean energy.”

Got that? If you are looking for a sure bet in a new growth market, sell solar, buy surveillance; forget wind, buy weapons.

The first thing Naomi the Naive is forgetting is that the first thing you always buy, in any circumstance, is weapons. Once you have a weapon, you can get just about anything you need. It is just plain common sense.
Secondly, Security has always outsold just about everything in that market, so the fact that it is outselling Solar/Wind/Moose Farts/Etc. in this age of al-Qiada should come as no surprise to anyone with a pair of braincells to rub together.

Hell, Mexico and Central America are suffering from their highest rates of kidnapping ever. I know that if I have a bunch of people looking for new ways to stop their loved ones from being snatched and held ransom for that year’s wages, I’d want to invest in a company that seemed to have an answer to that rather than in one who said they could make solar panels cheap, simply because solar panels are a luxury item. Security is like food, water and shelter.

Currently, only California forces people to install a mandated number of solar panels when they build their homes. Not enough of a market yet. Though I’m sure the legislator friends of Naomi Klein will be working on that in the not too distant future.

It’s because I’m Psychic

At this time, I can tell you exactly the findings of Mayor Nckels and Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowski’s Joyce Foundation funded anti-civil rights extravaganza being held today at an unknown location somewhere in Seattle.

It mirrors what Mugwug’s neighbors to the east are dealing with in Toronto, Ontario, Canuckistan.

Firearms Home Inspections in Toronto

You’ll remember that Canada has a firearms registration program, most likely because it is massively over budget and utterly useless in solving crime. What it does work excellently for is harassing lawful firearms owners.

Nickels and Kerlikowske have taken notice, gotten some cash from The Joyce Foundation and are hosting a gun bigot conference to “fact find” on useless government mandates that won’t put a dent in Seattle’s crime rate.

I have little doubt that within the next year or so we will begin hearing new and creative ways to make firearms owners either register themselves and their inanimate tools or move out of Seattle (which they should have already done long ago).

Being the lazy, non-Seattle Post-Intelligencer reading jerk that I am, the first I heard about this Bigot-O-Rama was when Ahab linked to RNS in this post at his blog. I read that and was incensed but unsurprised.

Then I read the Guest Editorial in the PI from Alan Gottlieb (Second Amendment Foundation) and Mark Taff (Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms) and was again incensed but unsurprised that they had been invited by the bigoted Senator Adam Kline and that the Mayor’s office had swiftly rescinded the Senator’s offer.

Over the weekend I then saw that Joe had linked to the Gottlieb/Taff column and asked for volunteers to hand out “Section 24 of the Washington State Constitution with 18 USC 241 and 242 for attendees as they arrived”. Always being a go-er, I emailed him and then later spoke to him on the phone.

The problem with that plan was this: No one knows when or where this symposium of bigotry is being held. We know it is today, in Seattle, at a conference center, but the start time is not known, and despite the fact that Seattle’s political leadership have small minds, Seattle is a large place.

Also, if they’re holding it on City property (which I wouldn’t put past them, especially since the SPD has a new facility and Nickels a very recently new City Hall and both are very near Harborview Medical Center) then anyone who isn’t otherwise invited can be told to stuff it at badgepoint (aka: gunpoint when the pointer is wearing a badge).

After I got off the phone with Joe I did do a little bit of investigating about possible locations and came up with zilch. No one I know connected to the local PD’s (including Seattle) has heard of anything special to “keep an eye on” or “stay in the vicinity of”.

Being a former citizen of the City of Seattle, I still had my address book which contains a certain person’s home addy (something every good citizen of any political bent should keep is the home addy of the local uber-constable). While definitely a “lead” of sorts, staking out the Chief of Police’s resi so as to follow him to an invitation only conference sounds like a one-way ticket to The Hoosgow on a “Stalking” charge to me. And they take away your guns for that.

So the next best thing I think you can do, and that I’m already working on thinking it was already campaign before I read Mr. David Codrea’s post making it a campaign, is to write your State’s Attorney General to find out where they stand on Parker/Heller, and if they write appropriately, urge them to write publically on the subject and to the SCOTUS. Michigan’s AG, Michael Cox already has done so.

Have a nice day.

Hey

Did anyone around here besides myself watch the first episode of the SciFi Channel’s “TinMan” last night?

If so, what did you think of it? (my answer is below the fold, along with some pics, so please answer before reading)

RNS Quote of the Day: 12/03/07

RNS Reader Mariner noticed that last Monday’s QotD was not exactly correct.

And because we thrive on being factual here at RNS, I give you the corrected and extended version of the Heinlein quote.

When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, ‘This you may not read, this you may not see, this you are forbidden to know,’ the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything–you can’t conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.

A Tie-In

With David’s post “A Taste of Things to Come”

Barack Obama was in Harlem last week, paying fealty to Al Sharpton in hopes of getting his endorsement.

When asked about the race between HRC and Obama, this is the quote the CBS affiliate chose to use.

“I trust him,” said Harlem resident Angela Dews. “Hillary is slick. Democrats are taking us for granted.”

Hopefully the rest of Harlem’s residents have figured that out as well.

I know Halloween is long gone

But do you want to hear something scary?

The leftosphere has so invested in failure in Iraq, and infected the Dem controlled Congress with their emotive demand for failure in Iraq that they seriously believe the news coverage of Iraqi refugees returning to their home country is staged because, get this, the MSM is covering it.

FireDogLake frontpager, Scarecrow, last Friday

The US military in Iraq has invested a lot of media effort trying to convince not only Americans but also Iraqis to believe we’re making so much progress in reducing violence that displaced Iraqis can begin returning home. It’s a strategy apparently based on the bootstrap theory that if you can convince enough people that things are better, people will actually start to behave as though things really are better.
So it is with some irony that the New York Times’ Michael Gordon co-authors this story reporting the US military’s frustration with the problem of returning refugees, something both the US and the Iraqi authorities are pointing to as a sign of progress. But when bus loads of Iraqi refugees recently returned from Syria – an event probably staged for the media given the mainstream coverage – the returning refugees often had no where to go.

Do you hear that? The US military has once again failed in the eyes of the left, because they were successful in stepping on the nuts of the enemy.

Btw, Michael Yon emailed Glenn Reynolds last Thursday to tell him this

Just returned from the Syria border back to Mosul. It would take a conspiracy to hide the progress in Iraq.

Now we all know at least one conspiracy theory that the left would never buy into.

And speaking of stepping on nuts, the leader of the moonbataria at FDL, Jane Hamsher, doesn’t really like that CNN brought up MoveOn’s “General Betrayus” ad again.

I group such wingnut blather that issues forth from reporters into two categories: (1) things they say because they’re just repeating what conventional wisdom is in their circles, and (2) bullshit they know to be untrue but don’t defy because that’s the price of membership to the club.

Nobody thought this was a “huge news story” until Karl Rove and other GOP operatives sat down with their little speed dialers and began pressing journalists to “care” about it.

That is not how I remember it. Hell, before I made it home from work that morning (0630 PST) it was on the bottom of the hour radio news and was on the local TV affiliate’s top of the hour before I went to sleep (0900 PST).

How painful it must be to live so far out of reality that you have to rewrite history.

Monsters of Dance — the Energy 92.7 3rd Anniversary Blast

Logo.jpgSo Saturday my wife and I went out dancing for the first time in a couple years. The local dance radio station has an annual party. Remember the 1988 Monsters of Rock tour? Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, and others all on one ticket? Well, this was like that, but for dance music.

(Bandwidth warning: lots of pics below, click to embiggen where possible. Excuse the phonecam pics; my phone’s camera sux. Safe for work.)
