Range Weekend AAR

Saturday was the March Edition of the Blogger Blastorama held at the City of Olympia Indoor Range. My bout with insomnia last week ended Saturday morning and I overslept this one by close to an hour, but that wasn’t too much of a problem as Headmistress SondraK, her husband JR and her neighbor Nancy had to watch a safety video and take a safety test before the range master would let them on the range (for insurance reasons, first timers only) and that took close to an hour, so all was good as I arrived just as they were finishing up the reqs.

The Oly range is a nice set up that the city police use during the week and the public uses on the weekends. The range is divided into two parts with the qualifying/civilian portion being a twelve bay 50ft pistol and rimfire rifle area and the other portion being open and having a good sized area for just about any type of training the officers need to do. I may have to see if I can get into the patrol clique and see if I can get in during the week. The Seattle PD Spec Ops range is nice, but it is outdoors and has hard structures. I love being able to move wall sections and make it different each time.

Anyway, we had a good ol time punching holes in the paper targets even though the rangemaster was unbending in his denying us the use of my Michael Moore targets. Oh well.

Here is Ms. Sondra shredding the bullseye with her CZ83 in her famous BDU bottoms.

On Sunday, I continued testing some new ammo loads in the Boomershoot rifle at the local rifle range. This week we had some more Hornady and some more Black Hills and I found a deal on PMC Silver and decided to give it a try.

Here are the results. 5 shot groups at 100yds.

0313bulls.jpg

If you click on the pic and supersize it you’ll be able to read the numbers of the bulls 1 thru 10. I warmed up the barrel on 1 & 2 with some M80 ball. 3 & 4 were PMC 150gr SPBT Sierra Game King projectiles. 5 & 6 were PMC 168gr HPBT Sierra Match Kings. 7 & 8 were Black Hills 168gr HPBT and 9 & 10 were Hornady 165gr SPBT.

Once again, the cheapest ammo did the best. Head scratching did occur. I’m still trying to make up my mind as to which ammo to buy for Boomershoot and I will hopefully have my mind made up by next weekend when I take it out to 200yds and put some wind on.

Also once again, I am embarassed by how poorly I am able to control this rifle. It could take years before I can come anywhere near it’s level of accuracy. I know that it could have kept the fliers away, especially on bulls 4 & 5, if my skills were a bit better. Working on it.

No Comparison

While the leftwing and the media go on and on about Abu Ghraib, intelligent Americans continue about our daily lives knowing full well we are not what the left and the media call “just as bad Saddam.

From what I like to call “Tim Blair’s Indispensables Department,

The Army’s building every conceivable structure to make the place more secure and more livable. One big problem, though, is everywhere they dig they keep finding bodies. This place was a real Dachau, from what the locals say–you came here, you didn’t leave. We visited the old death row about a week ago. It’s a huge room, with a raised concrete platform with two trapdoors under two huge steel half-rings bolted to the ceiling, with a cleat on the wall behind to wrap the rope around. It’s painted over now, but on the wall opposite the traps (about fifty, sixty feet away) was a huge picture of Saddam painted on the wall, so the last thing you’d see before your neck stretched was his grinning mug. The only place in this place where grass grows is the area right behind the death-row cellblock. Wonder why.

I can’t think of anything else to say after that.

Kospost

Kind of like compost but involving the left wing of the blogosphere.

I have been filing away posts from the Daily Kos for a little while but haven’t had the time, energy or vitriol to dig into them.

Until now.

From last Thursday, Kos himself digs into Tom DeLay for taking a trip to South Korea that was paid for by a foreign agent. That is a big no-no.

But what Kos fails to point out is that insolent Democratic Socialist and friend to the Daily Kos, ‘Baghdad’ Jim McDermott (D-Neverland) seems to have taken the same trip.

Why is Kos kicking no dust up on that little factoid I wonder? This would be McDermott’s second probable ethics violation after that situation with him distributing the illegally recorded cell phone conversations that he has lied about repeatedly and has been ordered to pay compensation for.

On Friday, Kos gets his dander up and starts screeching about how the American right are just like the Taliban of Afghanistan. He lists examples, most of which barely touch, and has six paragraphs of paranoid delusion.

Although he never does talk about the times Republicans executed citizens in soccer stadiums, gang raped 12 year old girls in retribution for their 5 year old sisters going outside the family home unattended or made a saint out of an international terrorist.

Oh wait, that is because none of that ever happened.

What a turd.

On Saturday, dK administrator Armondo pulls a post by dK diarist TocqueDeville up from the slime. TocqueDeville decides to take on Nicolas Kristof’s article “The Death of Environmentalism, which invariably turns into a train wreck.

You see, Kristof argues that the fanatics (aka Enviroloons) on that side of the debate use too many improvable facts, too much hyperbole and fear mongering so that no one trusts them anymore and they actually scare people away.

Which is all true. TocqueDeville spouts bile and goes on to prove Kristof right by posting a poll with this question at the end of his diary,

What’s more “extremist”?

A – Chaining yourself to a 500 year old redwood tree to save it, or
B – Clearcutting 90% of our country’s forest in a single century?

Of course, you are supposed to answer B. Too bad for Tocque that it never really happened and would be nigh impossible. Whereas A happens all the damn time.

Oh, and in the poll, Tocque spelled the word ‘forest’ wrong. Go look. Uneducated in both spelling and environmental issues. What a winner the enviroloons have on their side!

And finally, yesterday our friendly dK administrator, Armondo, goes and shows us just how quickly the left can move goalposts.

That hardcore rightwing Christian paper, the New York Times published an article about how, during the early days of the invasion of Iraq, there was a lack of US military security at facilities housing equipment for the manufacture of, wait for it, WMD.

That’s right folks, there were no WMD! But if there were, Bush and Rumsfeld screwed up and all the equipment for making it was looted in the early days of the invasion of Iraq.

I just wish the left would make up their damn minds. I know you have to be mentally unstable to be one of their faithful members, but you’d think the medication would kick in sooner rather than later.

Good luck guys!

Self Loathing Canadians

Matt Labash delves into the American/Canadian divide in his article “Welcome to Canada and pops up with the results from a survey that shows some Canadians are needing to loosen their hats a bit.

While Canadians pride themselves on knowing more about us than we do about them (undoubtedly true), the problem–captured in a survey done for Canada Day in 2000–is that even historically challenged Americans know more about ourselves than Canadians do about themselves. In parallel 10-question quizzes on everything from our first president/prime minister to the words of our respective national anthems, 63 percent of Americans scored five or more right answers. Only 39 percent of Canadians did. One Canadian television critic expressed disbelief, writing, “Average Americans appear to be in worse shape–judging by the evidence on TV, anyway.” She would know, since at the time of her comment, 92 percent of the comedies and 85 percent of the dramas on Canadian television were made elsewhere, mainly in America.

But we’re still ‘those stupid Americans’, right?

Sunday, Sunday

And it looks like it will be a sunny day here in Seattle, so I am off to the range again. Got another shipment of 308 ammo, so I’m off to practice with the Boomershoot rifle.

Yesterday’s Blogger Blastorama went rather well and I’ll have pics and a tale of that on Monday.

In the meantime, Aaron at the FreeWillBlog has found this little tidbit of leftist pap.

And high taxes reduce income disparities, leading to a general sense of relative well-being. Layard says that studies find that the more equally a nation’s income is distributed, the higher the level of average happiness.

He is not talking about communism, but a shrinking of wealth disparities.

Hmmm, sounds like they have again found that the words ‘Communism’ and ‘Socialism’ don’t quite sell like they used to (not that they ever really sold to anyone with more than two firing neurons).

Aaron has this mocking correlation to what that guy is saying,

“Yeah, and Hitler wasn’t talking about genocide, just a shrinking of ethnic disparities. Sounds nicer that way.â€?

And sadly, some folks think that that is the way people should speak about Hitler.

Which is very nearly as sick as this Boise State University student who is having moral issues and can actually think of a reason to kill children to get your point across.

You have to give it to the left wing, they do know about “Shock and Awe.

I am awestruck that someone could be so fucking ignorant and shocked that there are people who agree with these people.

The After

Professor Booty here, back with the ‘After’ photo from the student I spoke of yesterday.

You’ll remember that she has a fixation with the “80’s Hair Metal Slut look and just will not let it go.

Gone Shooting

Today is the Blastorama de la Olympia. I’ll be joined by Headmistress SondraK at a local range and putting the smell of burnt gunpowder in the air.

SWBlastAd.jpg

If you are available, we’ll be at the City of Olympia Indoor Firing Range (6530 Martin Way, Lacey, WA) from noon to ?????

If you are not available, head on over to the Carnival of Cordite, hosted this week by Chris Byrne at The Archangel, where I actually have an entry in this week along with a dozen other bloggers who write about the topic of firearms and the Second Amendment.

Caution: There is large amounts of Gun Pr0n there. Probably SFW. Unlike Professor Booty’s post, with is only SFW if your employer is a pimp.

Have a good weekend.

Rules Violation

Good Heavens, does this Analog Kid fellow go shooting every weekend? He does! Damn!

Anyway, here at the Occidental Tush Institute we’ve just finished grading mid term exams. Now, I am only here one day a week, but I have close to 45 students who had to show their knowledge of gluteus maximizing and, despite what you might think, we only grade on the curves, not A curve, which complicates things.

I have one student that, when she arrived in my class, was a basket case. While she had good form, she had no style, presentation or grace.

I mean look at this,
