Oh, what a surprise

Looks like Ward Churchill copies more than “other people’s artwork.”:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7156384/

bq. _*University of Colorado officials investigating embattled professor Ward Churchill received documents this week purporting to show that he plagiarized another professor’s work.Officials at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia sent CU an internal 1997 report detailing allegations about an article Churchill wrote.*_

bq. _*”The article . . . is, in the opinion of our legal counsel, plagiarism,” Dalhousie spokesman Charles Crosby said in summarizing the report’s findings.*_

bq. _*Churchill did not return calls to his home or office Thursday seeking comment.*_

bq. _*Dalhousie began an investigation after professor Fay G. Cohen complained that Churchill used her research and writing in an essay without her permission and without giving her credit. Although the investigation substantiated her allegations, Cohen didn’t pursue the matter because she felt threatened by Churchill, Crosby said.*_

bq. _*Crosby said Cohen told Dalhousie officials in 1997 that Churchill had called her in the middle of the night and said, “I’ll get you for this.”*_

bq. _*Cohen still declines to talk publicly about her experience with Churchill, but she agreed the Dalhousie report could be shared with CU officials, Crosby said, because “whatever concerns she may have about her safety are outweighed by the importance she attaches to this information getting out there.”*_

What a wanker. If CU pays him off, I’m going to start saying the most hateful, vile things I can come up with, hoping for some kind of huge buyout of my tenured faculty position. Well, not really – but it is just a wee bit tempting when you see such bad behavior, and bad scholarship, rewarded.

One way to ease the strain on socialized health care

Government provided “heroin for addicts.”:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,150076,00.html

I really don’t care if you do drugs. I really don’t care if you kill yourself with drugs. I do care, however, if you subsidize your habit by stealing from me. Using my tax dollars in this way would be a form of stealing from me, I think.

Have I mentioned that my wife wants us to move to Canada, so she can be closer to her family? Luckily it’s Alberta, which I think may just be tolerable. Barely.

A New Direction

The planets aligned yesterday. On Monday, I got my first issue of The Shotgun News in the mail since I renewed my subscription late. It took the SGN folks about five to six weeks to get me up and running again. I only had four days to peruse the late SGN issue before the new one arrived yesterday and I almost immediately put the old issue down and dove right into the current issue on my first break last night at work.

Also in the mailbox yesterday was the new catalog from Bushmaster.

Some of you may remember my escapade with the Bushmaster brand of AR-15 clones from last year. I was going to build two Bushmaster XM-15 rifles and trade them in for a Springfield M1A, but ran into a problem.

I really liked the first Bushmaster I built. It shot well, functioned exceptionally and because I did all the work, it was built to my personal specifications. Since then I have also built the lower half of a second XM-15 with a shorty solid stock, but then got caught up in building my Boomershoot rifle and funds for the upper I wanted went towards that rifle and the Bushmaster Part Two project got put on hold.

That was somewhat a bad idea.

While I thoroughly enjoy my custom Remington 700, the prices for the upper I wanted have gone up. They have gone up so far, in fact, that the upper I want is now monetarily out of reach. I could probably build an entire rifle along the lines of my first XM-15 for what they want for just that upper.

And that is where the latest issue of the Shotgun News comes in.

Double Standard? From the Left?

You don’t say?

If read the posts over at the Klueless Kos Klan yesterday, you would have seen this headline:

DeLay breaks ethics rules. Again.

The post is about Delay and some of our other elected representatives taking an all expenses paid trip to South Korea from a registered foreign agent.

Bad juju. I do not like that he did this any more than Kos does.

But the left is either being hypocritical or they just do not read past the first couple paragraphs in the articles they link to. I’ve caught Willis doing it, I’ve caught Atrios doing it. I’ve caught at least a half a dozen other, smaller left wing bloggers doing it.

So this time, I’m going to conclude that they just don’t have any reading comprehension skills. If Kos wants to stop by and insist that he did read the entire article, he is welcome to do so, but then I would have to call him a hypocrite.

Why? Because Jim McDermott (D-Looney) took the same damn trip!

So, not only has he broken ethics rules once, but the recordings he released of Gingrich’s private phone conversation would make him a multiple offender, thereby earning him the title ‘Multiple Offender of House Ethics Rules’ and the “Again tag that Kos tosses at Delay.

C’mon lefties, do your damn research. Rather got show for his bias because ehe got sloppy. You all don’t stand a chance.

Watch This Space

I was reading The Ten Ring the other day and came across this juicy little tidbit,

According to Gun Owners of America (GOA), Representative John Hostettler (R-IN) will soon introduce a bill that, if passed, would allow concealed carry reciprocity throughout the nation.

Hostettler’s bill, Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement (SAFE) Act, would allow anyone with a concealed carry license to carry a firearm in any other state. And, a person from a state like Alaska and Vermont that doesn’t have a permitting system can carry legally as well. (NOTE: Alaska has a permitting system, but allows permitless concealed carry, so I am not sure how it will work for a state with a dual law.)

Way Cool! Full on, nationwide reciprocity!

I will be keeping my eyes open for more information on this and keep you posted when things develop.

Why didn’t I think of this!?!

With all of the left wingers going nuts about demanding an ‘Exit Strategy’ for Iraq, I should have thought this up instead of waiting for The Onion to do so.

Almost a year after the cessation of major combat and a month after the nation’s first free democratic elections, President Bush unveiled the coalition forces’ strategy for exiting Iraq.

“I’m pleased to announce that the Department of Defense and I have formulated a plan for a speedy withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, Bush announced Monday morning. “We’ll just go through Iran.

Of course! It was all so simple!

Do Your Own Thing

I’m sure we all remember the al-Guardian attempt to have Britons call voters in Clark County Ohio and try and talk them out of voting for Bush.

Tim Blair reports that, as sort of a farce, representatives of the BBC is driving around Clark County and talking to residents to see who they would like Britons to vote for in the coming UK elections.

There is one problem, they cannot find enough people who give a rat’s asshole about the UK election to get a sample.

You see BBC types, we know that the UK is your country and that we don’t, nor should we, have a say in who you vote for.

How about you take that little tidbit of knowledge back to your island and spread it around?

The Left likes to say

That if we would let them register gun owners, they’d be happy and leave us alone.

Bullshit!

Example: Australia

A police plan for door-to-door checks of every gun owner in the state has drawn flak from firearms groups.

The plan is being considered by the Chief Commissioner’s office but gun groups believe police numbers are insufficient to cover the estimated 200,000 registered owners in Victoria.

Police said yesterday the focus would be on firearms storage.

You may have heard of the last search the Aussie gun owners had to go through that was done under the guise of “Firearms Storage.

40000-plus firearms were confiscated because the officers doing the appraisal didn’t like the way the owners were storing their firearms.

Aussie Police – “Crikey, mate! You’ve only got those guns locked up in a double plate steel and triple tubular lock style safe! We’re gonna have to take those. No, you can’t be given a grace period to buy a better safe. No, you won’t be compensated. Yes, were going to feed them into a bandsaw and then melt them down, why do you ask?â€?

Go over to The Smallest Minority and read what he has to say about this.

And to any firearms owner in Australia: I will buy your firearms, minus the shipping and importation fees, and put them in secure storage for you. You may use them as you like while you are here, providing I am accompanying the weapons, and I promise to sell them back to you for the sale price once you have your immigration paperwork secured.

Catch 22

Idiot Philosopher, Michael Stipe of REM, makes a startling discovery

REM frontman Michael Stipe has urged electric car manufacturers to install loud ringtones in the vehicles – after he was nearly killed by one.

The Man on the Moon singer was left shaken when an silent electric car narrowly missed him in Los Angeles, and predicts the problem will increase with the futuristic transport’s growing popularity – unless music is played to alert pedestrians to their presence.

He says, “It was an electric car! I suddenly thought to myself: ‘This is going to be a big, big problem.’ People will be run over by electric cars all the time. They make no noise. No sound. They’re silent!

So it is either the earth explodes because of global warming or everyone is killed by a silent but deadly electric car.

Some days, you just can’t win.

Not Exactly Jailhouse Rock

I hope the video of this comes out soon.

Radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri, charged in Britain with 16 offences including incitement to murder Jews, has been attacked by a fellow detainee in the high security Belmarsh prison, The Sun daily reported on Monday.

“It was a violent physical incident involving another inmate but I do not know whether a weapon was used. There is no information on whether he received treatment,” said Abu Mussa, speaking for the former head of London’s Finsbury Park mosque, was quoted as saying in the best-selling tabloid.

“There are some tasty characters in there. They don’t care about getting caught and one of them wanted to show Hamza exactly what they think of him,” he added.

I bet he called the guy an infidel afterwards.
