Why can’t they do this in my end of the country?

You may have heard of “The Minutemen. No, not those minutemen, the American volunteers along the Mexican American border who patrol for people crossing illegally.

This group of minutemen seems to have pissed someone off,

It looks like there is going to be a second “showdown at the OK Corral” in Tombstone, Ariz., April 1.

A leader of the violent, terror-connected Latin American gang Mara Salvatruchas, Ebner Anivel Rivera-Paz, has reportedly issued orders from federal prison to members of his international criminal organization to teach a lesson to a group of Americans taking border control into their own hands.

The American civilians, known as the “Minutemen,” say they have some 750 volunteers ready to show up in Tombstone to start policing the border and dealing with illegal immigration.

I would probably devote some serious time to doing what they do if I were closer to that border, but the current 1500-plus mile commute makes doing so a bit undoable.

And so far, we don’t have a million Canadians a year crossing the border illegally up here, so there is no such group in existence in my neck of the woods.

But imagine if you were just doing your civic duty and going out and catching criminals. Then, because you were doing such a good job, the leader of a gang of those criminals told you to knock it off or he’ll have you killed.

Dude, he’s fair game!

I wonder when he gets out of prison?

Oh right, these are hippies, not people who live in reality. Sorry, I forgot.

You have to wonder what they do to the people who don’t like their homemade tofu or the hemp bedsheets?

The cry of the common loon

But gun control “works!”:http://www.record-bee.com/Stories/0,1413,255%7E33909%7E2743079,00.html

bq. _*Crime rates in England have skyrocketed since the ban was enacted. According to economist John Lott of the American Enterprise Institute, the violent crime rate has risen 69 percent since 1996, with robbery rising 45 percent and murders rising 54 percent. This is even more alarming when you consider that from 1993 to 1997 armed robberies had fallen by 50 percent. Recent information released by the British Home Office shows that trend is continuing.*_

Read the entire thing – especially the bit about the difference in violent crime between states that aloow you to carry, and those that don’t.

And of course you remember “this little CDC meta-analysis.”:http://www.nukevet.com/rnsarchive/archives/2003/10/data_be_damned.html You know, the one that was unable to show any benefit to any gun control laws enacted? Of course, the CDC conclusion wasn’t that gun control laws don’t work – it was that they needed to do more “high quality” studies until they got the result they wanted. Sort of like counting “votes for governor in Washington State.”:http://www.nukevet.com/rnsarchive/archives/2005/01/more_washington.html

Michael Moore’s Minutemen

Still working hard “for the people of Iraq.”:http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050309/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_050309133455

bq. _*South of Baghdad in Latifiya, Iraqi troops on Tuesday made another gruesome discovery, finding 15 headless bodies in a building inside an abandoned former army base, Defense Ministry Capt. Sabah Yassin said.*_

bq. _*The bodies included 10 men, three women and two children. Their identities, like the others found in western Iraq, were not known.*_

Just think how much better off the people of Iraq will be if the US occupying forces leave them to the tender mercies of these freedom fighters.

No Foreign Interference

Unless it’s from Lebanon’s “Syrian Brothers”, that is. I’ve gotten a couple of e-mails about how come I haven’t noted that the Hezboolah demonstration dwarfed the Lebanon democracy demonstration. I guess it’s a fair point, as far as it goes. But there are a couple of things worth noting – how many people at the pro-democracy protest were Lebanese. And how many people at the pro-Syrian demonstration – weren’t? It’s all smoke and mirrors, but it’s interesting that the left is more than eager to embrace Hezbollah as having legitimate claims to the sovereignty of Lebanon, while denigrating the US efforts to bring democracy to the middle east as a false dream offered by an occupying force. Got that? Americans in Iraq = occupiers = bad. Syrians in Lebanon = stabilizing force in a country that can’t govern itself = good.

I’ve posted a couple of photos of Lebanese women taking part in the pro-democracy demonstration. I got sent a link to this photo, showing a woman at the pro-Syrian demonstration:

hezbollah.jpg

Yep, there’s a woman in the photo all right. A. Woman. As in singular, only one, surrounded by a sea of men. Now maybe it’s just a fluke of the photo angle, and there’s really thousands of women just off frame supporting Syria. But I’m betting not. I’m betting, instead, that the reason that there are so many more women at the pro-democracy rallies is that they truly represent the population of Lebanon – a population that sees what has happened elsewhere in the region, and wonders why it can’t take part in that change.

As you may know, we have an extensive R&D budget here at RNS. We used potent anti-terrorist filtering technology on this photo, just to see what would happen. The technology works by accentuating people who are NOT terrorists, helping to identify innocent individuals in chaotic scenes.

How Convenient For Them

So this report comes out stating that over 40 suspected members of terrorist groups have purchased firearms from dealers in America. Not “attempted to purchased, actually completed the sale.

There are many aspects of this report that are stunningly ignorant and I am going to try to cover them all;

First up, this story is a perfect example of how, no matter how many ignorant gun laws the liberals can come up with, they will never stop people who shouldn’t own guns from getting them.

Next up, it shows that terrorists are not buying their firearms at those eevviill gunshows through the loophole that left wing politicians are always crying about. They are going to federally licensed dealers.

On another note, these suspected terrorists are passing the National Instant Check System. How is that? Why aren’t their names on a list somewhere that gets added to the list of people who get delayed/denied?

The NICS system cannot tell the difference between me and my grandfather who has been dead since 1982 because we have the same name so I get the delay two out of three times, but Sim-Sala-Bim gets a pass? WTF!?!

And as if the NICS system wasn’t horrible enough, we now have politicians whining about wanting to keep the records of purchases for up to 10 years. As it is now, those records have to be destroyed within 24 hours so as to not give the feds a chance to start a federal gun registry.

I’m sure you can guess which party is behind the effort to extend the time allowed to keep records.

I found this story on a number of left wing blogs. One thing I would like to ask those on the left who are whining about this is, when the government names or arrests a terror suspect, you all bitch and moan about how they may not have the right person because of the confusion that overcomes us dumb Americans when it comes to middle eastern names.

So why are you taking the government at their word this time?

It wouldn’t be because it fits your little mindset and furthers your agendas, would it? You would stoop so low as to follow the “BushCo tactic of being opportunistic, right?

The one blog that went and ranted enough for me to want to rant on it myself was our old sheltered pals at blogAmy. I had a comment all ready to go for this topic, but found that I have been banned for some odd reason.
