Gun Links Post

Sometimes I wish I couldn’t file all these links away so that I would just post them when I find them.

Let’s start, shall we?

Ravenwood’s Universe had a couple of firearms related links I saved in the past few weeks; The first one contains Washington DC official’s reactions to the D.C. Personal Protection Act of 2005 which would end the prohibition of firearms in the burg.

“They’re trying to see to it that more children get killed.” — Washington D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, a Democrat.

But even that one isn’t so bad when you hear what Illinios State Senator Kwame Raoul (D-Chicago) thinks about those of us who own firearms,

Sex offenders’ names are kept on record, why shouldn’t gun purchasers’ names be archived, as well?

Isn’t that sweet of him. OK, it’s not. Eat shit and die Senator.

The other post is bad news for shotgun hunters in New York State under their .50 caliber ban.

Under state Penal Law, when you add a rifled barrel to a shotgun it becomes a center fire rifle, and since virtually all shotgun barrels (smooth bore or rifled bore) are more than 50-caliber, they would be banned by this bill.

Pure drunk with power madness.

Speaking of .50 caliber bans, the House of Representatives voted 278-149 to not restrict the sales or exporting of .50cal rifles last week.

Of course, the hysteria driven Gun Fearing Wussies are all up in arms and keep repeating that jetliners all over the world are going to be shot from the skies by a projectile smaller than a nickel fired by a Mujajihadi super sniper.

It is amazing what they will believe so that they can keep complaining and campaigning.

Especially after the Brady Campaign has been caught lying.

Actually that isn’t all that surprising as they lie to their sycophants all the time. But this time, it’s perjury in a Federal Court.

(Found at the Geek w/a 45)

From lying to hypocrisy, we now go to Joel Rosenberg who has three documented cases of mid-to-high level anti-gun proponents either owning illegal weapons or attempting murder.

Mega Links Post

Once again, I have a horde of links that I have collected and need to get out of my media folder. Here we go!

To start, our men and women in uniform;

8388_1.jpg

Mega MoFo Hoowa to you, SPC Campbell!

(Found at Blackfive)

Read these words and hit the links. Then save them in a folder because you’ll never see them in the MSM.

BASRAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RE-OPENS

COALITION TRANSFERS CONTROL OF BASE TO IRAQI ARMY

IRAQI ARMY CONDUCTS FIRST AIR ASSAULT MISSION

(Found by Raging Dave at 4RWW)

Now to the ladies;

Miss Karol of Alarming News and Raise the Black Flag with Karol and The Ace of Spades on the RightTalk Radio Network fame
hoistedfinal250a.jpg
has seen the soft green light and had added RNS to her blogroll.

Thanks Karol! As soon as I find where the hell my roll went, you’ll see that your there.

In world news;

The Australian, Douglas Wood, that was rescued from the jihadis in Iraq last week seems to have been able to keep his head on straight during his ordeal.

When he go back, his first requests were a beer and AR football scores. Good man!

I was also very happy to see Bob Geldof’s words on George Bush in TIME Magazine.

I never saw this link or the quote on any of the left wing blogs. I wonder why?

(Link found at Aaron’s CC)

And back to the USA;

There are 43 states who are banding together to try and push an internet sales tax through Congress. They have even created some type of software that they hope internet companies will voluntarily install and help these states track who needs to pay their tax.

Of course, if the internet companies don’t do this voluntarily, the band of tax-mad officials is ready to strong arm them by threatening audits of those companies while exempting those that do volunteer.

Nothing like a little old school mafiosa intimidation to go with your taxation, which is, remember, at the point of a gun.

(Found at Ravenwood’s Universe)

And lastly, we stop in London to talk about Hollywood.

This story about Tom Cruise getting squirted with water by a practical joker shows exactly what is wrong with Hollywood these days.

Dare I say, The Pussification of Hollywood? Yes, I do dare to say that.

Imagine this jackass squirting Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Dean Martin, Clark Gable or anyone else from the golden age of cinema. He’d be taking donations for a set of dentures after getting out of the hospital.

A Demonstration of Honest Beliefs

You don’t see many of those these days what with groups like MoveOn.Org (aka the World Socialist Movement) and International ANSWER (aka the International Socialist Party) holding the reigns of the left wing these days.

Speaking of rat-bag collectivists, the Seattle area is hosting the Prime Minister of Vietnam for a few days.

Oddly enough, in the mind of the media anyway, the people who actually lived under collectivist government in Vietnam are not happy about it and had a very heartfelt protest demonstration.

Don’t take a knife to a gunfight

Or an inert pineapple grenade either.

There was a large commotion in downtown Seattle yesterday after a man with a grenade entered the Federal Building. Details are still a bit sketchy, but it appears he was angry at a federal judge for something having to do with child support debts.

The story as was known yesterday afternoon is here and the pictures are here, but all you really need to know is that the guy was well known for issuing threats towards judges and he decided that yesterday, June 20th, was a good day to enter the Federal Building with an inert WWII era pineapple grenade and a wooden cutting board strapped to his chest inside a backpack.

The final facts are these: One 5.56 round and one 12ga 00Buck round later and the grenade wasn’t the only thing that was inert in that lobby.

New Toys for the Kid

A couple months back, before Professor Booty started helping me on the weekends, I was posting “Great Gun Deal of the Weekend reports. I spoke about finding a dealer who did low cost transfers and ordering your own rifles direct from the distributor as a way to 1. Find something you really want and 2. Get a damn good deal on it.

A few weeks back, I hooked up with the gunsmith who built my Boomershoot rifle to get a copy of his FFL. During our dealings while building that gun, he let me know that he not only has an FFL, but also does $25 transfers.

Once I got some money saved up I started looking through the Shotgun News for a deal on SKS’s. After dog-earing a few pages and visiting the various distributor’s websites, I settled on the deal at Southern Ohio Gun Int’l Inc.

After mailing the FFL to them, I ordered a pair of Yugoslavian pre-1966 SKS’s. When they arrived at the smith’s place a couple weeks later, I went in and did all the required paperwork and became the owner of some very cosmolined Simonov rifles.

I took them home and gave them a very thorough scrubbing with aerosol brake cleaner and Hoppe’s #9 and to my delight, discovered that I now had two very nice Simonov rifles.

P6190004.JPG

That is what I spent the majority of the day shooting at the range on Saturday.

One actually has a stock with some nice grain in it and both of them have NRA grade VG bores, although you couldn’t tell until they were well scrubbed. I have ordered the obligatory hammer and sear spring kits from Wolff Gunsprings since the eastern-bloc rifles I have come across all seem to have been stored with their actions open, leading to light hammer falls and light primer hits.

I have also ordered a new rear sight for the gun from Tech-Sights to check out. If you own an SKS or are thinking of owning one, you might want to go to the site and check them out. I will issue a range report whence it arrives.

I urge everyone out there to find their own FFL holder and get to looking for deals. SOGII did good by me and in all, after $130 for the rifle, $10 to ship it and $25 to transfer it, I’m into these for $165 a piece. Even with adding in the $10 for the Wolff spring kit and I’m still $25-$50 less that the local shops want for something similar.

Come on down

If you haven’t been keeping up on Mugwug’s ‘FrankenGarand’ project, you should go here and start at the bottom post.

Once you have done that, you really need to go here and read what he had to go through after he completed the rifle.

You see, Mugwug is Canadian and, as we all know, Canadian citizens are required by law to register their firearms with the government.

Which is sad really, because on the same day he posted about his registration experience I found this tale of woe at Ravenwood’s Universe about how the state of California(-stan) went through their computerized records to find the owners of certain Smith & Wesson and Walther 22 pistols and notified them that they must either return the pistols to the factory to have a certain set of threads removed, turn them in for destruction OR GO TO JAIL.

Yes, you read that right; the California Deptartment of Justice (what a sick use of that word) is officially telling the owners of full sized pistols in teeny-tiny .22 Long Rifle caliber that they could possibly go to jail and have all of their firearms confiscated if they don’t mail their pistols back to the manufacturer to have a set of useless threads removed.

It gets better; the CDOJ let these particular firearms be sold in their state for 2 YEARS after discovering that they contained these offending threads.

Add to that the CDOJ threatened to sue S&W with a lawsuit to persuade them to pay for the entire cost of modifying these firearms.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is the old truism about registration ALWAYS leading to confiscation is alive and real in California(-stan) and that any person who can build a custom Garand should get automatic US citizenship.

Mugwug, I know you’re currently in the middle of moving and all, but if you could you just drop anchor south of the border this time around, I think we’ll all feel better. Just don’t go to California(-stan).

Or Massachusettes, New York or Illinois for that matter.

Not Lost Forever

I found this link to a post by Mean Mr. Mustard the day after he posted it but I lost the damn thing so you finally get to see it today. It revolves around comments made by SCOTUS member, Justice Anthony Kennedy, about how the sentences of criminals in America are just too lengthy.

Yes, you read that right; He believes that criminals ARE SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME IN PRISON.

He, of course, doesn’t bother remembering that it was the thieves, murderers, rapists, etc fault that they ended up behind bars in the first place, he just wants their sentences cut down. Never mind that it is really difficult to mug a mother of three or carjack a guy coming home from work when you’re locked up in prison, Kennedy wants them let out sooner.

Are you wondering where he might have gotten this idea about the length of sentences (besides out of his ass)?

Europe.

I have a message for Justice Kennedy below the fold.

That’s Entertainment!

If you’re going to be near the Salem, OR area this week, try and make it out to the Oregon Mental Health Consumers and Psychiatric Survivors Conference at the capitol on Wednesday.

I’m thinking that just sitting back and watching the mentally unstable wander around the state capitol and mingle with the politicians will be a laugh-riot.

Good News / Bad News

The good news is that, according to the rangemaster at my local range, the phone there has been ringing quite steadily for the past two weeks asking if they were open on Father’s Day.

Hopefully this means that there will be a horde of fathers and sons at the range together today.

The bad news is that the will probably be a horde of fathers and sons at the range today. Also according to the rangemaster, they had to start a waiting list for shooting positions.

OK, so this isn’t really the bad news, but I was not able to get my second qualifier target in for Og the Neanderpundit’s Postal Matches yesterday so either I will have to go and follow the hordes or not send one in for half of the match.

I haven’t decided what I plan on doing as it is 0600 PST and it is very near my bed time.

Here is the actual bad news; when I went to shoot my match target for the high powered, scoped rifle match, I pulled the Boomershoot rifle out of retirement thinking it would make quick work of the task.

However, I forgot my zero booklet at home and had to rezero my rifle for 100 yds having not shot it in between Boomershoot and yesterday (yes, I know, BAD Analog Kid).

After Mollbot helped me get it rezeroed to the 100 yard line, I set about putting holes in the Postal Match target. Not in the right areas, mind you, but definitely in the target.

Word of note: If you get a chance ALWAYS RECHECK YOUR ZERO.

I shot a pitiful 20 out of a possible 90 points in the competition because I was pushing the rifle during zeroing, sending the bullets about an inch high. To me, it looked right on, but if I had the courage to show you my piss poor target, you’d see that a good number of my rounds impacted anywhere from half an inch to an inche low of the 1 inch circle targets, hence the pitiful score.

Mollbot then used the rifle to qualify for the match and shot 50 out of a possible 90 by holding just above the circle.

I then set about fixing my earlier zeroing idiocy and did this

P6190007b.JPG

You can see my last three misses in the top of that pic. In the center of the pic though, is a 5 shot group I pulled off barely trying.

(Stops to kick self in ass once again for being impatient during rezeroing)

Oh well, I am just figuring this as kharmic retribution for missing the first couple Postal Matches.

I will do better in the future.

Have a good Father’s Day, all you dads out there. Professor Booty should have already filed in with some suggestions for gifts from the spousal unit on this patriarchal holiday.
