As we all know, the SCOTUS screwed us all yesterday.

Here is my plan, please pass this around to as many folks as you can:

As we speak, the Senate has been sent a prospective Constitutional Amendment that would give Congress the power to enact laws making illegal the desecration of the American Flag.

This is not only disgusting and wrong, but a horrible waste of time for Congress and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Call your legislators, all of them and tell them you want them to stop screwing around with the Flag Burning Amendment and get working on an actual amendment that matters to every single American.

“Private property shall not be taken for private use, except for private ways of necessity, and for drains, flumes or ditches on or across the lands of others for agricultural, domestic or sanitary purposes. No private property shall be taken or damaged for public or private use without just compensation having first been made, or paid into court for the owner, and no right of way shall be appropriated to the use of any corporation other than municipal, until full compensation therefor be first made in money, or ascertained and paid into the court for the owner, irrespective of any benefit from any improvement proposed by such corporation, which compensation shall be ascertained by a jury, unless a jury be waived as in other civil cases in courts of record, in the manner prescribed by law.

That is the original text of Article 1, Section 16 of the Washington State Constitution, minus the last sentence about the judicial branch being able to determine what is ‘public’.

If you have listened to any discussion, either televised or on talk radio, where one side is 100% behind the Flag Burning Amendment, one of their arguments is that they want it enacted so as to make a point to the SCOTUS that the Congress has the ability to make law they cannot beat, to stop judicial activism in the SCOTUS

With this Amendment, the Congress will not only do that, they will also please every single property owning American.

I am not in the least bit surprised that the SCOTUS came to the decision they did. One of the main reasons I do not currently own my current domicile is that I live and work in King County, Washington: Home of the sky-high property tax increases.

With property taxes: you really do not own your property, you are only renting it. Stop paying your property taxes for 2 or three years (if you’re lucky) and you’ll find out who really owns your property.

Washington State has no state income tax, but I would gladly pay a yearly state income tax of 5-10% to get rid of my future property taxes. The more money you make, the more potential property you own. So essentially, a property tax is an extra income tax for the middle class.

If you want to see people strive to make enough of a salary to buy property, charge them a tax that substitutes a property tax. Once they figure out what they’re being charged for even though they don’t have it, they’ll get the message and get off their asses

But then again, we first have to get a new property preserving amendment passed since the SCOTUS doesn’t seem to think too highly of the one we had.

So get off your ass and let them know you’re pissed off!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good: The Carnival of Cordite is up and running at The Revolutionary War Veterans Association Weblog.

After you’re done reading The Carnival make sure you check out the Rifleman links on the left hand margin. If you subscribe to the Shotgun News, you’ll recognize the writings of Fred of Fred’s M-14 Stocks. Don’t be frightened by the venom towards the UN in his writings, just absorb the techniques of becoming a Rifleman and get out there and practice them.

The Bad: The Ithaca Gun Company had folded again, possibly for the last time.

While I own multiple Remington Shotguns, I always loved the Ithaca’s original Model 37 for it’s simplicity and reliability. In what may be one of the most horrible parts of the company folding is that they cannot guarantee that the people who have sent their firearms in for repairs/modifications might not be able to get their firearms back as the company’s creditors now have the keys to the building and its contents.

The Ugly: I’ve got way too much stuff to do this weekend and there will be no range time available.

I’ll make up for it next weekend, I can guarantee you that.

A Zero Sum Game

Those who are trying to use their diet to show how much they care about the fuzzy wittle animals and how ‘healthy’ they are, run the risk of not being able to reproduce.

A plant chemical found in soya, tofu and legumes could potentially damage sperm and affect male fertility, a British researcher said on Wednesday.

Professor Lynn Fraser, of King’s College London has shown that genistein, which can mimic the effect of the female hormone estrogen, affects sperm in mice.

But it seems to have an even stronger impact on human sperm.

In laboratory tests, Fraser found that small amounts of the chemical can cause human sperm to “burn out and lose fertility.

“Human sperm proved to be even more responsive than mouse sperm to genistein, Fraser told a fertility meeting.

She added that if women eat soya and other foods high in genistein it might have a bigger impact on male fertility because the chemical is likely to affect sperm when it is in the female preparing to fertilize an egg.

While funny, it doesn’t really matter. The vast majority of tree huggers don’t have any balls in the first place.

The Soundboard: Things I Can’t Stand Edition

One of the things I can’t stand is when I get all amped up to load you all up a tune for the Sucker for a Hook Series and I can’t find the damn CD that it is on.

So……eeeny, meeny, miney, mo first CD I touch, in the computer it goes!

And you get……Rush – In Rio

Good choice Mr. Random Selection. But then again, I don’t own a whole lot of crappy music.

OK now to select a track. Crap, this is a 3 Disc set. Well then, let’s open it up and grab the first disc that we see.

All right, disc #3. Eight songs. Where is that eight sided Dungeons & Dragons die at? Check the drawer, dumbass. OK, got it.

And we roll…..#2! Very good selection!

You folks must have luck on your side today because if I had been planning on loading up a live Rush song, this track would have been very high up on the list.

Today’s accidental selection is:

La Villa Strangiato – Live in Rio de Janero

50,000 screaming Brazilian, 3 Prog Rock Vets on their last show of the tour and a instrumental tune with a studio length of around 7 minutes.

Lerxst gets lets his normally goofy self go off the short plank for a band intro segment that probably only really comes across on the DVD, but is funny enough without it.

Enjoy!

BAKER COUNTY DEMS WANT STATE PARTY TO PUT GUN RIGHTS IN PLATFORM

Saying they’re tired of the gun control issue costing them defections to the GOP, Baker County Democrats voted last week to approve a platform resolution in support of gun ownership that they hope the state party will add to its platform.

The adoption came after a spirited debate over the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Chuck Butcher of Baker City, who crafted the county party’s resolution, said he will personally deliver it to the state party platform committee when it meets June 25 at West Linn.

Pigs aren’t flying yet, but they have blueprints for an airframe.

Durbin Needs To Resign

There are folks floating around the idea of censuring Richard ‘The Dick’ Durbin. It’ll never happen because the Democrat Party will wrap themselves around this hosehead, hoping that everyone will forget about this and accept his half-assed apology by 2008.

I re-listened to his half-assed apology and a couple things came to my mind; First off, he mentions that Colin Powell ‘agrees with him’, but he never cites any evidence of that. Also, he gave Powell his old title of Secretary of State. Now, I know that public officials get to keep their last official title out of courtesy and as a sign of respect, but with Condi doing all of the flying around now, I would think that he could have at least put a “Former or a “Our Previous in front of that.

Secondly, in his original contortion trick of putting his foot in his mouth while his head was in his ass, he mentioned Pol Pot, but he failed to mention America’s most recent holder and torturer of large quantities of POWs, a group that a large number of Americans would remember, the North Vietnamese.

Why did he mention them?

Because Durbin knew that McCain, even the half-shafter that he is, would have called him onto the carpet for that one and that he was full of shit and looking for shock value.

But oh well, it’s done. For now.

To tide us over though, we have the results of this poll,

The poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports found 36 percent of respondents believe the prisoners are being treated “better than they deserve,” while 34 percent said “about right.”

Just 20 percent of Americans polled believed detainees have been treated unfairly.

There were stark differences of opinion based on party affiliation with just 7 percent of Republicans saying Guantanomo prisoners are treated unfairly. Thirty percent of Democrats hold that view along with 22 percent of those not affiliated with either major party.

The Rasmussen poll found 14 percent agree that prisoner treatment at Gitmo is similar to Nazi tactics. Sixty-nine percent disagree with that comparison.

Hey leftists, Eat Me!

You can play your little games of making a non-Muslim touching the Koran without gloves into a war crime all you want, but the American public remembers what these people want to do to them even though you seem to have forgotten.

Holy Snapola!

I see that Say Uncle has created a TTLB Ecosystem just for Gun Bloggers.

Thanks Uncle!

I am also glad to see that I’m currently in the top 20 (#17), though I’m sure that will go away shortly as he is still taking applications for this ecosystem. Also, for some reason, Kim du Toit is at the bottom, so I may actually be on the bottom 25.

Either way, if you are thinking you’d like to get in on this, drop a line here.

Speaking of gunblogging, I’m going to step away from the keyboard as this morning is scheduled maintenance time for both my 1911 and my 10/22.

See you later.

Getting in your genes

I was originally going to ignore this story about a group of scientists who are arguing that politics is genetic, but then LGF got into the story yesterday.

I know and agree that the Nazis used eugneics psuedo-science to kill Jews, but that is no reason to bring out and tag the scientists and Seattle commentator with a swatika. The Nazi’s also used eugenics to kill homosexuals, mentally retarted, the blind and children born with physical defects and that makes then the epitome of evil, but without intent, these scientists are just ignorant, not evil.

Besides, once you get into their work summary, even a layman like myself can see that their conclusion reflected their original hypothesis because they didn’t look far enough to disprove it. They didn’t look far enough into children separated from their parents. Of course a child is going to reflect the politics of their parental units the majority of the time when those are the people you associate with the majority of the time, even if the parental units are grandparents or an adoptive step-parent.

Unless you’re a freak like me.

My father, whom I spent less than a decade with, is a Buchananite and I’m pretty sure my mom has voted for all the national (D) candidates since McGovern.

Check through my archives and tell me if you find anything reflecting much of either of those two view points. Sure, I swing a little politically closer to my father, but I consider a lot of his political beliefs completely out the window.

Or how about the children of hippies who voted for George W. Bush, thereby completely disavowing everything their parents believe in? Was there a switch at the hospital?

If you read the link LGF provides to Seattle commentator, Ken Schram (locally known as Schrambo because he’s a dork), you’ll see an example of the average liberal in Seattle; snide, condescending and insipid. But he’s not a Nazi.

Look folks, we’ve got enough people in this country tossing the “Nazi label around at their political foes and showing their ignorance. Thankfully, the vast majority of them are currently on the left.

Until some dingbat starts advocating throwing people in camps, let’s keep it that way.

I hope he doesn’t mind the heat

Because Fred Phelps is a going to hell.

It is my personal belief that it is too bad it was only his church that was hurt in the bombing. But, he is using the 1st Amendment to speak what he believes to those who will listen (and some who don’t) as is his right.

But he should know that I’m keeping my fluid levels up so that I can make a liquid deposit on his grave when he finally passes.

His disrespect towards the killed in action soldier from Idaho are disgusting, which is why I find this picture that I found at Insignificant Thoughts very, very funny.
