BAKER COUNTY DEMS WANT STATE PARTY TO PUT GUN RIGHTS IN PLATFORM

Saying they’re tired of the gun control issue costing them defections to the GOP, Baker County Democrats voted last week to approve a platform resolution in support of gun ownership that they hope the state party will add to its platform.

The adoption came after a spirited debate over the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Chuck Butcher of Baker City, who crafted the county party’s resolution, said he will personally deliver it to the state party platform committee when it meets June 25 at West Linn.

Pigs aren’t flying yet, but they have blueprints for an airframe.

Funny place to put the propellor! “The Republican Party has done a good job creating the image that Democrats are against gun ownership,” Pender said. “That’s absurd. I don’t know any Democrats who don’t have a healthy respect for the Second Amendment.”
So healthy they want to hog-tie it, kill it and make bacon out of it: “The party’s legislative agenda for 2004 supports continued background checks on gun purchases, gun registration and child safety devices for gun owners, but neither document contains support for gun ownership, Raffety said.”

I know a number of Democrats that have a healthy respect for the 2nd – they might even make up the balance of the membership of that party. Details might differ on how it’s implemented but that’s what makes a Republic work.

But they aren’t the people that have been thrust out front as leadership.

Thought the second – now that the Democrats _know_ they are not the majority party perhaps they’re realizing that handing the government power is not the wisest descision. If they can take away your medicinal pot, what will they come for next, eh?
