OK, not really, it’s a whole new vehicle.
How long before the civilian version comes out, do ya think?

The M1117 is simply the latest version descended from the Cadillac-Gage series of armored cars that the military has used for various purposes (air force base security being a big one) since at least the early 70s.
When it says it has firing ports for all passengers, that’s kind of misleading, since the vehicle can carry exactly ONE passenger (plus a crew of 3 fully manned, although it can operate with two). A Stryker squad carrier carries exactly that – a full squad of 9 (it can fit 10) plus 2 crew.
And BTW: the bottom of the M1117 – which is the key part for deflecting IED blasts – is flat (the basic design pre-dates the modern, IED infested, COIN battlefield.) A 12-lb IED really isn’t all that big.
I thought the Marines’ new wheeled vehicle had a v-shaped hull to deflect more energy away from the people space. Why didn’t they go with that design?
Mollbot – Because the Armey didn’t invent it.
