SW Radio the size of a pack of cards

Looks like this little radio might be a cool product. Got a good review in Modernsurvival magazine.

Available in moisture-proof packaging for long-term storage….

It’s a good radio for the price and size! I have made a couple of purchases from CountyComm, and this was one of them. They have a ton of little, helpful items.

I got this guy for Christmas from REI: http://www.rei.com/product/797979

Small and lightweight. Runs on batteries/solar/hand crank. Has a USB port to run small electronics or charge a cell phone!

Nice, less than half the size of my Grundig.

This is a fine little pocket set, but the prepared person needs a better receiver also, one which will really bring in low-power stations from around the world.

As it stands today, disrupting the Internet would cripple this country as surely as a major nuclear strike. Information flow is vital to our present way of thinking and our commerce, because we have programmed out the individual as a resource, and a nation of individuals as our standard. We are now a collective, totally dependent on each other, and in all ways, dependent on the Internet.

Re-directing the nation back to it’s roots as a group of individuals working together would happen after a major disruption which included loss of the Internet, but it would take time.

Shortwave radio could bind us together and enable the best to lead us out of the crisis, but the equipment must be positioned beforehand.

This little pocket set is important, because it is cheap enough to have several in various locations, insuring some sort of connectivity, but you really need to orient your SHTF planning around a really good receiver. They cost about as much as a well-made rifle, so have one less rifle and the ability to connect to the world, even if it’s a one-way connection.

BTW, if it’s going to be a SHTF item, this radio needs to be able to run on NiMH rechargeable cells, but they are lower voltage than alkaline cells. Has anyone checked to see if the radio will run reliably on the NiMH cells? If it won’t, I couldn’t recommend it.

I recently posted a review of this radio on my emergency preparedness blog. The optional wire antenna makes a big difference. I’m pretty sure it will run on the lower voltage of NiMH batteries because of the specs on external power sources, but the radio and the manual have a difference of spec on that so maybe not. See the review for more details.

    Here’s my review:
