But I thought

That the left were supposed to be the ‘peaceful’ ones?

Dr Steven Best, a philosophy professor and exponent of the Animal Liberation Front, told about 200 activists at the International Animal Rights Gathering 2005: “Now communism is dead, we are the new spectre in the world. We are named as the number one terrorist threat in the US and UK. Can you believe it?”

He added: “We are not terrorists, but we are a threat. We are a threat both economically and philosophically. Our power is not in the right to vote but the power to stop production. We will break the law and destroy property until we win.”

He compared the animal rights struggle to the fight against slavery. “We are abolitionists. We don’t want to reform them [vivisectionist companies], we want to wipe them off the face of the earth. We will fight, and die if necessary, to free the slaves.”

I just wish they’d get around to some of that dying.

I’ve volunteered to help in the past, and that offer is not only still valid, I would like to say that I’m willing to double my efforts to see to it that some of the violent enviro-whackos die for their cause.

De Nomination

So Bush pulled a virtual unknown out of his hat. Alrighty then.

So far, with all of the overnight talking about little else, I haven’t heard anything I don’t like about the guy so he gets my tentative ‘Thumbs Up’ until further notice. Let’s hope someone on the committee asks the guy about the 2nd Amendment.

Of course, since the guy isn’t a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, they automatically oppose him.

Chuck E. Cheese Schumer has decided that Roberts isn’t qualified,

“I voted against Judge Roberts for the D.C. Court because he didn’t answer questions fully and openly when he appeared before the committee. For instance, when I asked him a question that others have answered — to identify three Supreme Court cases of which he was critical, he refused.”

“Screw Them Kos has the same opinion and thinks that this is all just a ruse to get Rove out of the news cycle,

So Bush was supposed to spend all week interviewing potential Supreme Court nominees, but suddenly rushed the nomination forward today. Is Roberts really the guy they wanted, or the first guy that was potentially palatable that could be rushed to the podium?

And for a decision so important, why rush the process longer than necessary?

Well, there’s that thing about Rove.

And apparently Kos is a ‘mainstream’ Democrat, because his party chairman said almost the exact same thing,

Okay on the legal credentials — too bad Judge John Roberts is a conservative. That sums up the reaction of the Democrat party and many who belong to it.

In a statement released Tuesday night, the Democratic National Committee suggested that President Bush announced the nomination of Judge John Roberts Tuesday night to blast the Karl Rove “scandal” off the front page.

“Faced with a growing scandal surrounding the involvement of Deputy White House chief of Staff Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney’s Chief of Staff Lewis Libby in the leaking the identity of a covert CIA operative, President Bush announced his nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court late this evening,” the DNC said.

Too bad for them that the Democrat Party itself isn’t mainstream.

Last night I heard not only the ‘Rove Distraction’ conspiracy theory, which reminds me of this recent episode of Chirs Muir’s Day by Day, but also everything the collectivists think is wrong about Roberts, from his working with mining companies before being appointed to the DC court to his writing as a hired legal eagle on the Roe V Wade issue and everything in between.

On a side note, if the Dems truly wanted the abortion issue to be something tangible instead of an issue to use as a goldmine and hang out whenever their power base was in trouble, they would have used their twenty post-decision years in which they controlled Congress, including six years of the White House being occupied by a Democrat President, to have gotten this turned into its own Constitutional Amendment.

I’m taking bets at work about: 1. How soon the filibuster will arrive, 2. How long it will last due to the ‘Extraordinary Circumstances’ that the Dems pull out of their asses, and 3. whether it will be successful.

I stand to make some money because, as you all should remember, I work with Teamsters.

Try Seattle

Yesterday I liked to the story about the NRA pulling their 2007 National Conference out of Columbus, Ohio.

Today comes the news that they are looking at Portland, Oregon as a location for it.

Yeah, right! Like the city that abruptly yanked its police officers out of the Joint Terrorism Task Force would let the arch nemesis of the Brady Bunch come to their town.

C’mon NRA, take it somewhere that deserves your money, like Montana.

While the wife reminds me that the state capital, Helena, wouldn’t be able to handle something that large, I’m sure that Missoula could and I’m also sure that the state could use the $15 million the conference would leave in its wake.

For the Soldiers

Say you’ve been deployed to a sandy and or rocky locale. You enjoy getting packages from home with the little things that remind you of home; your favorite snacks, maybe a CD or DVD or X-Box game or maybe your favorite monthly firearms magazine.

Well, the snacks and the electronic items you still have to rely on your family to send you, but Primedia has got you covered on the last one.

If you go here, you can donate a subscription of Guns and Ammo, Shooting Times, Shotgun News, Handguns, Rifle Shooter, or your choice of almost a dozen other magazines to a solder who is asking for one.

C’mon man, it’s $10.

It’s Sad, Really

The NRA was going to hold it’s 2007 national conference in Columbus, OH. This meeting was expected to bring people from all over the country to Columbus who would leave an estimated $15 Million in the city.

The shortsighted and ignorant city council decided that it would rather increase the firepower superiority of criminals instead and enacted a total ban on handguns (except for high ranking city officials and police, of course) within the city limits.

The NRA, thankfully, had enough balls to cancel the event. And after the things I’ve heard coming out of the NRA offices lately, I’m wondering where they found them.

Riflematch Whidbey: Asswhuppin’ Concluded

Unfortunately, I wasn’t’ the one handing out the asswhuppins

I spent Saturday practicing for the off-hand portion of this match and had fashioned myself a rather nice strap to use for support and was getting better than expected results with it. After arriving barely in time (thanks to tourist traffic on Whidbey Island) I got my bench chosen and began setting up my equipment as the organizer of the match began his opening rules and remarks.

The match broke down as such: two targets off-hand and two targets from the bench, ten rounds each, at 100yds and no time constraints for a total of 40 rounds with a total available score of 400pts.

Then I heard the dread words; “No stabilizing sticks, palm rests, slings or straps are allowed in the off-hand half of the match.

I was back to square one with a shoulder tired from the day before and a 16lb rifle to support. Oh well. After some pitiful results (that will be spoken of in a minute) it was time for the bench portion of the match.

I set up my rest and spotting scope and looked for the lowest chair I could find as the tables were low and I’m tall. No luck on a low chair, but that didn’t matter, my day improved the second I fired the first of my next twenty shots.

Unlike every other precision rifle I’ve ever shot or been told about, Barak the Boomershoot rifle likes to get really accurate when his barrel is filthy and almost too hot to touch. The twenty off-hand rounds had warmed the barrel up nicely

As is evidenced by this target

P7180002.JPG

10rnds at 100yds in 3 minutes. The target from my previous ten rounds from the bench is very similar to this one, just a bit looser..

For the bench portion I shot a 200-18X, but in the offhand portion I shot a 95 for a total of 295, which was was not good enough even with my 18x’s. I lost to LouG who shot a 344 overall and took the cash home.

Oh well, now I know what I have to do for next time. LouG and I get along pretty well as he was the guy who did my member orientation for the Central Whidbey Sportsman’s Association where the match was being held. If you go here you stand a good chance of seeing Lou shooting Barak the Boomershoot rifle at a target that may have had the image of a fat lying bastard of a human being whose last name is Moore on it.

Needless to say, LouG had a really good day. He also won the rimfire match, held right after the centerfire match, but I can’t speak of that as I’ll most likely be using the scope on my 10-22 as a target in the near future due to it’s failure during the rimfire match.

BTW, I know it has only been one day, but I still haven’t gotten my fatwa yet.

Maybe I should quit posting my targets or something?

Don’t hurt ‘em

Criminal Firearm Superiority Supporters, the Violence Policy Center, is going balls out to fight the partial reinstatement of the 2nd Amendment rights to the residents of Washington DC and playing the “It’s for the Children! card by selecting only the favorable statistics and screaming them at full volume.

Typical of the VPC, I know, but watching them get ripped apart is hilarious.

VPC: Children and youth in the District of Columbia are far less likely than their peers in the 50 states to be victims of firearm suicide, a new Violence Policy Center (VPC) study reveals. . . The study finds that NO District youths 16 years of age or younger died as the result of firearm suicide during the years 2000 through 2002. . .In addition, during this period there were no suicides by any other means by District youth in this age group.

RW: They note that the gun loving states have the highest rates of gun suicide, with Alaska leading everyone with 14 total gun suicides or 2.61 per 100,000. The VPC recommends a total gun ban as a model for the other 50 states.

VPC: VPC Legislative Director Kristen Rand states, “This study shows that the District’s ban on handguns and assault weapons works to prevent youth suicide by keeping guns out of D.C. homes. The findings highlight the sheer lunacy of Congressional efforts to repeal D.C.’s tough laws. Congress would virtually be writing a death sentence for some young people by repealing District laws that are working to prevent youth suicide.”

RW: Of course what they don’t tell you is that the “gun-free” utopia that is Washington D.C. has one of the highest rates of gun violence. In the year 2000, there were 239 murders in the District, and 8,626 violent crimes. Compare this with gun-loving Alaska, who had 27 total murders and 3,554 violent crimes. Per capita, the numbers are even worse. D.C. had 41.8 murders per 100,000 citizens compared to Alaska’s 4.3. The “gun free” city of Washington D.C. had more murders per capita than the entire state of Alaska.

Make sure you check the comments for even more info that the VPC ‘forgot’ to include in the press release that the uber-left website ‘Common Delusions’ published almost verbatim.

Lost Link Department

I wish I would have remembered this one last week, from Aaron’s CC:

Does anyone even know that synagogue parking lots within a mile of where I live in Los Angeles are closed?

I was doing a little tech support for a web client today, an Orthodox synagogue, and couldn’t park. In the office were bomb threat instructions and business cards of the LAPD special officers. Driving down the major boulevard, lots of orange cones and motorcycle cops prevent parking in front of synagogues.

Are we on the eve of a Kaleefoornia Kuffir Kristallnacht? (Here’s a rough translation for you illiterate TV-addicted dhimmis: “California Terror Attack Against Infidel non-Muslims, starting with the Saturday people and finishing with the Sunday people)

I guess we just allow violent anti-Semitic sieges here in liberal California. Heck… this week Chinese newspapers even report we even send our officers away. Maybe because Orthodox synagogues are Republican-friendly, our new MeCHa Mayor Villaraigosa doesn’t mind too much.

If he wouldn’t have blogged this, I never would have heard a single word about it.

Oh, that unbiased media!
