Life will be good

After saying yesterday that I was going to just jump right on into this ney year, I feel kind of foolish because, even though the students and staff here at the Occidenatl Tush Intitute have tried, we have not yet perfected a way to turn back time.

I guess I can now say that I’ve come to grips with 2006 and am getting comfortable with it.

Maybe not “Next to the Fireplace” comfortable, but I think we’ll get along.

NW Moonbat News

At the end of my post a couple weeks back on the suicide of one of the people arrested as a suspected ELF, I said I’d try to keep up with any new news. To put it bluntly, there hasn’t really been anything new other than whining ‘status reports’ and plea failures.

But it’s not like there has been a dearth of bile coming across the Portland Indymedia Center wires. In fact, just narrowing it down to a top three was a bit of a challenge.

First, there was the entry headline “Pigs Murder Again that caught my attention. I wondered if there had been a rash of homicides by members of the porcine community that maybe I hadn’t heard about and I was thinking about sending a quick email to Rivrdog requesting the reasoning behind his silence on the opportunity for some free bacon and chops.

But, alas, it was a self defense shooting involving a member of the Portland constabulary.

From what I have been able to gather, a drunken car thief passed out behind the wheel of his pilfered auto and when awoken by the officer, he took off. The suspect then hit a tree after driving less than a block. A different officer on scene tazered the suspect, but being wasted and seated in the car, it had little effect on him. The suspect put the car in reverse and proceeded to drive at one of the officers and was shot.

But none of that phases the IMC crowd who decided that an eye for a nose is the best course of action,

Since when did the police become the judge, jury and executioner? Why are the good people of this country putting up with this? This is a declaration of war! We must answer these actions with actions. Every time a pig murders we need to answer with an ambush on their patrols, we need to answer deadly force with deadly force. Small cells are the way to go about this. They see us all as the enemy, so we need to show them enemy actions as they are doing to us.

I will guarantee that if every time they murder unarmed people who are scared and just trying to get away form bad cops who are trigger happy murderers, that if we answer them with downing “one of theirs” they will think twice before killing people. They take someones family member away, so take them away from their family. When all freedom loving people start to do this we will have a reduction in pigs who think they are God’s gift to humanity. They always say “we are humans just like you,” well actions speak louder than words. Every time you murder, you are creating more people who HATE you and it won’t be long for good Americans stand up to injustice, inequality and blatant disregard for the constitution.

Apparently they cannot picture someone using a vehicle as a weapon. Either that or they just hate cops. Those are just a couple of my guesses. You are can choose from either of them or make one up for yourself.

Next up, somebody warn Uncle of the SayUncle Blog, he’s gonna have some high horse ridin’ company very soon.

Alan Graf goes by the handle ‘Hippielawyer’ at the Portland IMC. He seems to be the legal beagle who sued the city for dispersing a riot with pepper spray, costing the Portland taxpayers $845,000 which was used to help start the Northwest Constitutional Rights Center.

Of course, the only ‘Constitutional Rights’ they’re worried about is protecting the anarchists’ right to break the windows of a Starbuck’s. That is free speech to them, you see.

And he’s moving to Tennessee. You’re gonna have a live one on your hands, Uncle.

And lastly, not to be outdone by either of the previous posters, poster ‘Red-neck’ says that the protective border keeping the murderous ‘palestinians’ from blowing up bus riding Israeli school children is going to be Ariel Sharon’s tombstone.

I’d keep an eye out for dancing in the streets of Portland if the latest surgery doesn’t improve Mr. Sharon’s condition.

—————-

One thing to remember about all these posts: Anyone can post at the Portland IMC, but all posts and comments are moderated. If the folks who run the place don’t agree with what you wrote, it gets sent into the ‘Compst Bin’.

Each of these posts were on the front page.

One Week In

avatar34239_1.gif

Well, this first week sped on by without too much trouble, and any trouble that did happen was most likely related to the celebration’s aftereffects.

Anyway, it’s too late now to be testing the waters of 2006. Might as well jump right on in.

Where the Union Money Goes

My fellow UCD Law School alum Allison Hayward at the Skeptic’s Eye has been sifting through labor union disclosure forms, and guess what she’s found:

Payments to entities with “Democrat in the name: 38 (totalling slightly over $660,000). Payments to “Republican: 2 (both from carpenter’s unions) totalling $17,000.

Well, that’s one stereotype reinforced. Here’s another:

Payments to entities with the keyword “casino: 20, including a payment by the NEA’s National Headquarters to the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa in Atlantic City of $141,043.

I’m sure that all 20 are legitimate payments for services received — probably the union leadership’s annual meetings at those fine business establishments. Yeah, right.

The NRA at the UN

Very kewl article — in one of the more widely read lefty think-tank journals, Foreign Policy — about the NRA’s “ambassador to the UN,” former Oregon state representative (!!!) Thomas Mason and some recent NRA/RKBA victories overseas.

I enjoy reading the other side’s articles about right-wing organizations from time to time, not just to see what they’re thinking, but also to profit from the authors’ legwork. If you ignore the not-so-subtle implication by the authors that everything they’re reporting on is Very Bad, you can pick up some good nuggets of info and finish the article thinking, “hey, they’re doing some pretty good work out there!”

This article’s no exception. Among other things, I hadn’t realized how significant was the NRA’s role in defeating Brazil’s recent gun ban referendum.

Also, Brazil’s only gun magazine is apparently called, simply, Magnum. How cool a name is that?

I grew up in Jerry the Geek’s town in the Willamette Valley, so I’m always interested when I see a fellow Oregonian doing good works out in the world. Bravo, Mr. Mason!

New Toys on Friday

Seeing as how I haven’t been doing much gunblogging lately and I’m making everyone wait until Monday to se my newest acquisition, I decided that I could at least show you my newest gun accessory acquisition.

The bastards won’t let me steal their photo, so you’ll have to pop this link to see the Nikon BuckMaster 6-18×40 that I bought to place atop my Ruger MK I in 22-250 in preparation for Boomershoot.

I have a decent 3-9×40 on there now, but even when I crank the thing up to 9x, I can’t see those little pool cue chalk cubes I’m so fond of shooting nowadays out at the 200yd line. With the Burris on Barak, I can see them at 12x, so I figured I’d get just a little more optical oomph just in case.

I really wanted to go with another Burris Black Diamond like the one I have on Barak, but I would have had to buy a 6-24x to get the fine crosshairs and I didn’t want to go quote that strong. That and I didn’t have the $600 to spend this time around.

I actually didn’t buy it from the above link (they just have the better photo), I bought it at MidwayUSA. The prices were the same, but I’ve bought from Midway many times before and they gave me a $30 e-coupon for New Years.

It arrived after I left for work Friday afternoon so I just now got home and got to looking at it.

It has a nice heft to it, hopefully meaning that it is a strong scope. It’s still dark out, but the 100yds or so I can see up the street from my driveway seems really clear, although not quite as good at light gathering as either my Burris or the binocs I bought a few months back. It did come with a very nice pair of optional target knobs that I’ll definitely be utilizing though.

I’ll be mounting it up probably later today and sighting the rifle in this weekend, and we’ll see how it goes from there.

Support Your Independent Contractors

Listening to local talk-radio last night, I heard some guys you might want to know about.

They are called “The Pipe Hitters Union

From the front page of their site,

The term “Pipe Hitters describes people that you call when you need to get a job done, no questions asked.

In recent times the term “Pipe Hitters more accurately describes the persons you would want with you when things go wrong. They are the people you can always count on in a tough situation.

“Pipe Hitters” will stand their ground and if necessary respond with an Overwhelming Level of Force.

The actions taken by the American people following the September 11th attacks was a clear example of people with a true “Pipe Hitters attitude. We answered aggressors with a controlled, immediate response, executed with an Overwhelming Level of Force.

This type of response is utilized daily by men and women in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and other missions around the globe. Their dedication and professionalism are a direct reflection of the beliefs and ideals that those of us with a “Pipe Hitters attitude possess.

In times of conflict or peace, there will always be a need for “Pipe Hitters who stand ready for any challenge that may arise.

With the increasing number of “Pipe Hitters involved in supporting our efforts across the globe, we wanted to find a way to identify all those who believe in our way of life, thus showing their support of our informal “Union.

The man on the radio was named Justin, and you can find him in the contact section of the site. The host of the show was Bryan Suits, a Lieutenant in the Washington National Guard who spent most of 2004 and part of 2005 on the ground in Iraq. Bryan is one straight-shooter of a guy who trucks no bullshit and I expect that this group has met his test if he let them in his studio.

The Pipe Hitters Union has a line of clothing with their logo on it for sale. According to Justin, they are donating 10% of items purchased (their profit, basically) to The Man Down Foundation, which lends assistance to fallen Independent Security Contractors, as well as military families in the future. Don’t let the media fool you, not all of these guys are raking $100K a year, and when they get hurt, they need help too.

Seeing as I know that I have a good number of visitors to RNS who fit the “Pipe Hitter mindset, I suggest you take a look around their site and check them out. The PHU store is behind the tab near the top of the page. I suggest you take a look though there as well.

Seeing as how today is payday, you can probably guess where I’m shopping this morning.

The Door Mystery

And The Answer Is:

Well first, let’s take another look at the door.

P1030002.JPG

The pic was taken from the inside of the room and the door opens out. The guys who will be working inside the room requested a split or’ Dutch’ door so that they could still talk to people who walk up to the door without them bringing dirt and mud into the room.

So what exactly is that hydraulic door closing mechanism doing on the top half of the door?

Even with the thing adjusted all the way down, a person still needs to force it to even get it to open and when the top half is not connected to the bottom half, it swings shut rather quickly and with a resounding bang. Also, it will not remain open unless we screw something like an eyebolt into the wall next to it and then another bolt holding some type of hook to connect to the latch.

The guy who installed the door has basically just defeated the purpose of having a split door. The mechanism was actually supposed to be mounted on the bottom half of the door between the door and the doorframe. He tossed out the parts needed to make that connection and fabbed up a special piece so that he could mount it the way he did. He probably felt pretty darn intelligent when he was done too.

From what I have heard bandied about the office, we have had two accidents with this particular door already: the first one was a hand that got caught in the fast closing upper part of the door and the other happened after someone was playing with the latch that connects the two halves together while yakking and forgot that they hadn’t re-secured the two halves. Short story even shorter, busted lip when the bottom half opened but the top half didn’t. Not only didn’t the top half open, it didn’t budge due to the strength of the closing mechanism.

I would like to thank everyone who sent in their guess. I got to talk to RNS readers, most of whom I didn’t know, and that is always great.

You all have a good weekend. Picture me at the range.

RNS Quote of the Day

Today’s ‘liberals’ recognize the worker’s (the majority) right to their livelihood (their wages), but deny the businessmen’s (the minority) right to their livelihood (their profits). If workers struggle for higher wages, this is hailed as “Social Gains; if businessmen struggle for higher profits, this is damned as “Selfish Greed. If the workers standard of living is low, the ‘liberals’ blame it on the businessmen; but if the businessmen attempt to improve their economic efficacy, to expand their markets and to enlarge the financial returns of their enterprises, thus making higher wages and lower prices possible, the same ‘liberals’ denounce it as “Commercialism.
