They Choked

Like the Green River Killer.

Yeah, yeah, the Seahwks beat themselves last night in Detroit. They have a tendancy to do things like that. As much as I would have liked to see them play textbook football for the whole game, they could only for it for the first quarter or so.

Of course, having some officials who don’t need tap canes would have helped too, but that is neither here nor there on Monday morning.

So now that the hullabaloo is done for the year (except for the Pro Bowl), I would like to address the load of BS flying around about the whole “12th Man/Texas A&M” controversy.

First off, since when did Texans become whiny bitches?

1. The A&M trademark only extends to Collegiate Sports, not to any other franchise.

2. The first trademark request from A&M was made in 1991 (the second in 1996). The Seahawks retired the #12 jersey in honor of “The 12th Man” in 1984.

3. When I hear Al Michaels refer to any team’s fan noise as “The 12th Man is really becoming a factor for this team at this point in the game.”, the term can be now covered under the ‘Common Use’ clause, therefore negating any trademark possibility.

4. When A&M has to shop for an alum judge to order the Seahawks to cease and desist, you can tell right then and there they don’t have a case. That judge should be tarred and feathered for not stepping aside and handing the case off to someone else.

So there you have it folks, the controversy that isn’t. While I like Captain Ed and read him everyday, it is nice to see him get one wrong every now and then (the Seahwks ‘stole’ nothing).

Hey Aggies, I love you guys, but you just lost any and all of the respect I may have had for you (oops, thanks HL. No champeens are you Aggies). You can bury as many of your dead mutts under the turf of your playing field as you want, but your whining shows you to be something you shouldn’t have let the world see.

You should just feel lucky that Paul Allen doesn’t buy your school and close the fucker for pissing him off.

See you in court, ladies.

RNS Quote of the Day

One of the statists arguments in favor of government controls is the notion that American railroads were built mainly through the financial help of the government and would have been impossible without it. Actually, government help to the railroads amounted to 10% of the cost of all the railroads in the country, and the consequences of this help have been disastrous to the railroads.

I quote from The Story of the American Railroads by Stewart H. Holbrook:

In a little more than two decades, three transcontinental railroads were built with government help. All three wound up in bankruptcy courts. And thus, when James Jerome Hill said he was going to build a line from the Great Lakes to the Puget Sound, without government cash or land grants, even his close friends thought him mad. But his Great Northern arrived at Puget Sound without a penny of federal help, nor did it fail. It was an achievement to shame the much-touted construction of the Erie Canal.

Sorry I haven’t got much to say this weekend so far

What with the problem solving the wife and I did yesterday, in relation to what I wrote about on Friday, I haven’t had any time for posting on  the so-called “topical issues”.

And then, of course, today is the Superbowl, so folks will be stopping by quickly in the AM or late in the PM so there really isn’t much to say except

Go Hawks!!!

I’ll make up for it tomororw though. Lots of good stuff in the wings, so Go Hawks!!! and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Oh yeah, one last thing, Go Hawks!!!

UPDATE: Shit!

The Most Important Day of the Season

The football season, of course. And not that other “football” that is only entertaining when the ladies of the Occidental Tush Institute Varsity team play it.

In reference to the sentiments in the closing of my post from yesterday, things have only gotten worse around OTI. It all started just before lunch in the North Dorm where two of the girls went at it in a rather entertaining, but possibly dangerous, lingerie-flinging cat-fight.

When the Dorm Mistresses were finally able to get the two apart, the each of the girls made threats and, because of OTI rules, we had to ask them to leave the grounds for the next ten days. This is a standard suspension and as long as the two don’t have any problems off campus, they’ll be let back and their records cleared at the end of the school year.

Ms. Cassandra made reference to the fact that Ms. Bonita will need to sleep at some point in the near future.

spankable86b.jpg

Ms. Cassandra went to stay at one of OTI’s beach cabins not too far away to cool off because, while they live at seperate ends of the 3rd floor, we had to take what she said seriously, even if it was said in the heat of the moment, after the threat made by Ms. Bonita.

To be specific, Ms. Bonita said, and I quote from the report,

spankable86a.jpg

“I’m gonna rip Jerome Bettis’ nuts off like a paper towel!”

Her affinity for the Seattle team was unknown to us. Her hair color is in constant change, so we didn’t catch the blue reference, which started about three weeks ago.

Ms. Bonita was also offered a cabin at a different location, but she refused and took off on her motorcyle. Her whereabouts are currently unknown since the state police took this picture of her after pulling her over for speeding, but the Steeler’s security people have been notified and we doubt that she’ll be hard to spot. If you see her, make sure you don’t have any black and yellow on or you may suffer the fate she has set for Bettis.

There are also OTI security personnel watching Ms. Cassandra’s cabin.

I just hope that was the worst of it.

Superbowl Saturday

Howdy everyone! It’s the Professor once again and I have just one question for you; “Are you ready for some Booty?”

I certainly hope so, because I need help to know who to root for. As you all know, I’m much more into topless volleyball than I am major league sports involving men, so I know of the teams, but I don’t know bumpkis else about what is going on tomorrow.

On the one had, we’ve got the Kid, who doesn’t seem to be much of a football fan, but he is in Seattle, so he’s got to have some wish for his town’s team to win this.

And on the other hand, we’ve got David, another fellow poster of RNS fame, who has been rooting for the Steelers since childhood.

I don’t want to start any interblog rivalries here, but I’ve assembled two of my students who are from the home towns of each of the teams playing in what I’ve heard called “The Big Dance”.

Hey, it’s sweaty men running around in a grass field in tights, if they break out doing the watoosee, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Myself, I prefer to to go buck than ever put on skintight fabric.

But back to the girls, I am letting them wear their team colors, but no logos.

Up first, for the Seattle Seahawks: Ms. Kanji

Spankable85a.jpg

Ms. Kanji’s parents have season club level seats in the new Qwest Field stadium and have had season tickets every year, going back to 1984. She says that she bleeds blue and green, and would gladly do so for her team to win.

Let’s all hope it doesn’t come to that.

Next up, for the Pittsburg Steelers: Ms. Megan

spankable85b.jpg

Ms. Megan hasn’t spoken much these last two weeks, especially when Ms. Kanji is in the vicinity. Then, it is mostly growls. Ms. Megan has this logo tattoo, that, while I know all tattos are painful, oh my goodness, I would have only done that to someone to extract national secrets from them.

So there you have it folks, let the games begin.

I know that I will have to split my time between two dorms tomorrow, as putting these two ladies in the same building during the game could be like two Beta fish in one bowl.

Beautiful, but someone’s gonna die.

OM bhūr bhuvah svah

My wife and I have been hooked on the new Battlestar Galactica series on the Sci-Fi channel. We watched our first episode two weeks ago, and it was so good (even dropping into the middle of a story arc where we had no idea who the characters were), that we immediately ran out and bought the miniseries and first season on DVD and have been watching two or three episodes a night to catch up. The writing and overall quality was excellent to begin with and it hasn’t let up. As a result, we’re getting short on sleep — each night, we find it’s past our bedtime but we plaintively look at each other and say in unison, “one more?”

Anyway, the main title theme is a haunting melody that is apparently a Westernized version of the Gayatri mantra, the highest mantra in Hinduism. (I’m told that in India, it’s so pervasive that it plays at the beginning of movies in theaters.) I attended a Hindu funeral recently, and the Gayatri recited there was unexceptional, just another of many mantras. But as arranged by composer Richard Gibbs, it’s quite beautiful and affecting. Take thirty seconds out of your day and have a listen: battlestar.galactica.theme.2004.mp3

If that doesn’t sound like a good main title theme for an action-oriented drama developed with obvious parallels to 9/11, well, you’ll have to watch the show. It works very, very well played over the opening montage. The meaning of the lyrics doesn’t hurt, either.

A final note: I think it’s significant that there aren’t any Hindu fanatics threatening to retaliate against the Battlestar Galactica production crew for using a sacred prayer in a Western TV series. Contrast that with these people. Makes sense that Caspar Weinberger would be saying that the road to America’s success mid-century runs straight through India, historically hostile to certain other cultures.

The next episode of Battlestar Galactica airs tonight. Watch it! It really is “the best show on television.”

Thanks Everybody

I would just like to take a second to thank everyone who stopped by with their condolences yesterday for Jake. The Analog Wife was quite pleased to see the support and it made her day a bit better.

There will be a post, probably on Monday, about another shake up in Casa de Analog that happened this week but won’t be resolved until tomorrow at the earliest, so I don’t feel right talking about it just yet.

Worry not though, I’m on the case and it will not stop the Mighty Mighty RNS-tones.

It’s Friday!

So it must be “Portland IMC Links Day”.

I doubt I’ll do this every Friday, but I found two completely hilarious links that I just have to show you.

First up, we have IMC author ‘Kosmik’ demanding that the moonbats band together to, wait for it……

“Prepare to Defend the people of Iran from a Nuclear Attack!”

But that is why I love to mock the Indymidiots so much; instead of worry about the country they live in getting hit by a smuggled Iranian built nuke, they worry about their country flying off the handle and making the nation-state that hates the Americans the most being turned into a smoking, glass lined crater.

Buy stock in tin-foil, my good people. I think the demand for it will be going up quite soon.

Next up, IMC author ‘Relay’ was in Caracas to see he who swapped spit with Mama Moonbat, Hugo Chaves, speaking at the World Social Forum.

Some excerpts (typos and all):

Once at the stadium, the men were separated from the women in to two line. Each were searched for weapons and explosives. Then we were given bottles of water and smiles and entrance to the stadium.

Because you can’t forget the smiles for dear leader

The atmosphere inside was roaring excitement. These people are all hard-core soccer lovers and stadium-ecstasy is second nature. There was a pre-Chavez show with musicians playing excellent folk and revolutionary music and scores of young teenage boys and girls dancing slowly about with yards of diaphanous pastel cloud-gauze wafting gracefully behind.

Did he just say that the teenagers had visable flatulence? My goodness, what is Chaves making them eat!?!

I saw a picture of Jesus the revolutionary he looked quite a bit more stern than the famous picture of Che Guavera.

There are pictures to go along with the post, but I can’t really tell how ‘stern’ Jesus looks because ‘Relay’ loaded the pic in sideways.

And now for the truly twisted part of his post,

Chavez spoke for about two hours, no notes. He even sang a short song and he has a great voice. I kept comparing Chavez and Bush while I was watching. Chavez inspires hope, Bush evokes fear. Chavez emanates strength, ability and confidence, Bush is a national embarrassment. Chavez can extemporize a two hour speech, Bush can barely read for twenty minutes.

Did you read that, Chaves “inspires hope” while Bush “evokes fear”.

But then, in the very next paragraph….

Some people tried to leave early but were blocked by red beret wearing, Uzi toting soldiers. No one was allowed out until Chavez finished his speech. At one point the crowd became a bit restive and the soldiers were looking pretty nervous. I thought I smelled fear in the air, so I moved away from the door area. It was easy to imagine the crowd (mostly Americans) all pushing toward the door and the soldiers responding with their Uzis.

I’d be pretty scared if I went to a Bush rally and his security people pointed their weaponry at me to keep me from leaving.

I think Chaves wins in the ‘Evokes Fear’ category and I think ‘Relay’ lives in a socialist fantasyland because he can’t see it, even when the guns are pointing at him.

And that’s it for Friday’s “Portland IMC Idiotfest”. Stop by next Friday and I’ll see if I can find anything else this tweaked.

Forget the Nanny State

Some Democrats are going straight to Mommyland

Why mommy is a Democrat – By Jeremy Zilber

Not content to be a surrogate to ‘The People’, Zilber presents the world with his view of how ‘Mommy’, a good Democrat, will take care of you.

“Democrats make sure we all share our toys, just like mommy does.”

“Democrats make sure we are always safe, just like mommy does.”

“Democrats make sure children can go to school, just like mommy does.”

So let’s see here: We’ve got wealth redistribution covered, the over-regulation of SUV and the banning of firearms handled and the worst public school system this country has ever had in its existence included. Yep, those are Democrat values all right!

In all seriousness, I cannot find one single thing other than a lack of its own page at Amazon to make me think this isn’t real. The author claims right up from to be a left-wing activist and the book has testimonials by real, living, breathing Democrats.

Hit the link and check it out.

The Worst Remake of ‘Kokomo’ Ever

Is contained in the video at this link

I didn’t really enjoy the Beach Boys 80’s come back song ‘Kokomo’ in the first place. I did enjoy the Euro NATO soldiers remake of it ‘Kosovo’ because that was pretty funny.

But the self-titled, left-wing “Freeway Blogger” has an edition out called ‘Iraqomo’ that was funny the first time I watched it, but became more and more insipid with each viewing.

After mocking the moonbat’s own symbol of Bush’s oppression of Iraqi’s, the hooded Abu Ghraib prisoner hooked up to ‘the wires to nowhere’, showing that they never really gave a rat’s ass about the guy, ‘The Freeway Blogger’ makes multiple claims about a draft of college aged folks, even though the numbers of soldiers in country is declining, showing that the guy doesn’t follow current events.

Other than that, the thing is a B-list of hyperbole for the work our service men and women are doing and ‘Blood for Oil’ claims.

If you need a giggle today, stop on by and see how desperate some folks are to hate someone. If nothing else, it’ll cost the guy bandwidth.
